DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) - It's crunch time in the presidential race.

Nine Republican and six Democratic candidates will meet this week in their final debates before the lead off Iowa caucuses, and lively exchanges are expected.

The back-to-back debates -- Republicans on Wednesday, Democrats on Thursday -- come as both races in Iowa are toss-ups with just three weeks left before the voting begins.

On the GOP side, Mike Huckabee, has vaulted to the front, overtaking longtime leader Mitt Romney, a former Massachusetts governor.

Among Democrats, Hillary Rodham Clinton is locked in a three way race in Iowa with Barack Obama and John Edwards.

This week's debates are sponsored by Iowa Public Television and The Des Moines Register.

Republicans on Wednesday, Democrats on Thursday
Too close together for Hillary to use the same set of plants in both locations. She'll have to divide her army of questioners between the two venues.

Who is CNN deploying to boost Clinton in these debates?

"Is al-Jeezera doing an Arabic debate?"

Don't give them any ideas.

Have the Democrats and Republicans debate each other on the same stage. We shouldn’t have to wait until someone else picks who the Presidential candidates will be.

They truly should do debates with all D’s and all R’s participating at the same time. They should do this to decrease man made global warming by cutting down on the total number of debates done that use up both electricity and oil. They should do this “for the children”.

Note that nine GOP candidates will be participating in tomorrows debate, and this means that Alan Keyes will be debating the top tier GOP Presidential candidates for the first time and probably for the only time.

FRED THOMPSON (true Conservative Federalist) - NATIONAL SECURITY EXPERIENCE (I’ll do whatever it takes to stop the bastards, include water-boarding) - 2ND AMENDMENT ADVOCATE (arm everyone and the criminals will back off) - SECURE THE BORDERS (starve the bastards out and they will go home) - LAW AND ORDER (enforcement first and foremost) - SOCIAL SECURITY REFORM (the program can’t sustain itself) - DEFEAT THE DEMOCRAT (any fool they put up) – TAX SIMPLIFICATION (choice for the tax payer) - PING!

I think the good doctor would be wise to skip this debate & let his fundraising and support do the talking.
