COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa -- Mike Huckabee, under fire for some of his immigration stands while governor of Arkansas, picked up an endorsement in Council Bluffs, Iowa, from the ultimate illegal immigration opponent: Jim Gilchrist, founder of the Minuteman Project, the group that has roamed the border for the last several years operating effectively as an independent border patrol.
President Bush called the group "vigilantes" two years ago. But Huckabee seemed eager to announce the endorsement, as it came on a day when former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney started running an ad that slams Huckabee for backing a provision that would have allowed the children of illegal immigrants to receive in-state tuition in Arkansas.
"Frankly, Jim I've got to tell you there were times in the early days of the Minutemen I thought what are these guys doing, what are they about," Huckabee said. "I confess I owe you an apology." He said of Gilchrist, "nobody can question his commitment to his country."

Note to self, never be in a foxhole with the immigration lobby of FR, they will backstab you in a minute.
Will this oughta scuttle your plans. You can always send those Huckabee kneepads back for a refund.
Robertson endorsed Rudy. I suspect this is as much of a head-scratcher.
Well, this thread will be fun to watch.
You might also want to peak into the other two started before it.
Which ones, got a link?
Dane-o1, you would drop the Huckster in an instant if you thought for one second that his invasion conversion was genuine.

That’s it. I’m done with this country!
I swear, I am surrounded by three hundred million of the dumbest fools in the world. I mean, come on, this is the same guy who patrolled the border in an effort to bring awareness to the illegal invasion of this country and yet he’s eager to just ignore Mr. Open Borders’ past record and just take him at his face for what he says now. Talk is cheap, Mr. Gilchrist, and if you’re willing to sell out to an open-borders fascist, then you sir, are no Minuteman. You, sir, are a turncoat and a fraud, and when the Republic dies at the hands of the illegal invasion you, sir, who turned a blind eye to the quisling we call Huckabee, will have blood on your hands.
I give up...
Many thanks!
Can you make this post play the twilight zone theme song when we open it?
Called it wrong how ? If Huckster hoodwinks primary voters who the aid of the media and the non-attacks by the rodents (that is, until AFTER he gets the nomination), he’ll still lose in a landslide to Hillary.
Oh, and Gilchrist, you pondscum, you’re a damnable sellout !
“If Huck gets it, FR and even the ex Freepers will have called it all wrong.”
Not ALL Freepers will have called it wrong.
He is the Democrat candidate for the Republican nomination. Next to Huck, Hillary looks experienced in foreign affairs.
He will never, ever, win.
From his latest move, I'll have to agree with her.
Maybe a Hoffa could give him his next endorsement and that will surely mean that we should all overlook his scary record as governor. Not.
Not sure about Gilchrist now.....
DEMS HOLD FIRE ON HUCKABEE; SEE 'EASY KILL' IN GENERAL ELECTION
************************************
**Exclusive**
Democrat party officials are avoiding any and all criticism of Republican presidential contender Mike Huckabee, insiders reveal.
The Democratic National Committee has told staffers to hold all fire, until he secures the party's nomination.
The directive has come down from the highest levels within the party, according to a top source.
Within the DNC, Huckabee is known as the "glass jaw -- and they're just waiting to break it."
In the last three weeks since Huckabee's surge kicked in, the DNC hasn't released a single press release criticizing his rising candidacy.
The last DNC press release critical of Huckabee appeared back on March 2nd.
[DNC Press Release Attack Summary:
Governor Mitt Romney (R-MA) 37% (99 press releases)
Mayor Rudy Giuliani (R-NY) 28% (74)
Senator John McCain (R-AZ) 24% (64)
Senator Fred Thompson (R-TN) 8% (20)
Governor Mike Huckabee 2% (4)]
In fact, as the story broke over the weekend that Huckabee said he wanted to isolate AIDS patients back in 1992, the DNC ignored the opportunity to slam the candidate from the left.
"He'll easily be their McGovern, an easy kill," mocked one senior Democrat operative Tuesday morning from Washington.
"His letting out murderers because they shout 'Jesus', his wanting to put 300,000 AIDS patients and Magic Johnson into isolation, ain't even scratching the surface of what we've got on him."
The discipline the Democrats have shown in not engaging Huckabee has earned the praise of one former Republican Party official:
"The Democrats are doing a much better job restraining themselves than the GOP did in 2003 when Howard Dean looked like he was on the brink of winning the nomination."
A close friend to Huckabee explains: "Look, Mike is Hillary Clinton's worst nightmare. They should be squirming."

See #20.
So noted.
Last time FR nailed it was when they got behind Arnold. We know how that turned out. The truth is “politics is like a box of chocolates, you never know what your going to get” because life in this fallen world is totally unpredictable. The only thing you can put your full trust in is Christ, and his coming, stable, peaceful, joyful, eternal Kingdom on this Earth, as it is in Heaven. I still think it is a big question mark if we even make it to the general election before God really shakes things up.
1 Corinthians 4
4 For I know nothing by myself; yet am I not hereby justified: but he that judgeth me is the Lord.
5 Therefore judge nothing before the time, until the Lord come, who both will bring to light the hidden things of darkness, and will make manifest the counsels of the hearts: and then shall every man have praise of God.
Also, some freepers were wondering whether you're dano1?
Are you?
We live in a kook kook times
How can he evaluate Huck’s “new and improved” immigration position in a vacuum without any consideration of Huck abysmal past record on illegals?

Update: Here’s the official Huckabee campaign post on the endorsement. A commenter there also notes: Another positive sign is the fact that Roy Beck of NumbersUSA has changed several of his ratings for Governor Huckabee from “red” to “green” in response to his new immigration plan. This is a big turnaround from just a few days before, when Beck characterized the Governor as a “disaster” in the area of immigration. Here’s the new Numbers USA grid: We are entering Alice in Wonderland territory. *** Yeah, you read it rightthe founder of the border control group, the Minuteman Project, is endorsing...
Head-scratcher indeed. What’s next Wayne LaPierre endorsing Romney?
DNC leak on DRUDGE the same days as the Corrupt News Network poll is extremely suspicious
other polls conflict
untrustworthy DNC denies leak?:

Bears repeating. I agree. Don't despair though. With all the propaganda of the Huck crowd, I was inspired to donate again to Fred's campaign. Huck will flame out after S.C. It is no doubt a time of bizarre happenings. I pray on voting day that enough "real" conservatives vote for a true conservative. Huck is the biggest fraud running on the GOP ticket since... probably the past 100 years. Huck will not be the GOP nominee.
I pray that you are right.
You hit the nail on the head. It is inconceivable as to how Gilchrist could sell the sovereignty of this country up the river. Duncan Hunter and Tom Tancredo are the only ones who have balls when it comes to dealing with the illegal immigration problem. Now if only those two could pool their resources together and check their egos at the door. We could then have one, and only one representative who will speak for those of us who still give a damn about this country.
p.s. Mr. Gilchrist, professional wrestling has more credibility than you!
Are you?
No I am not, but that doesn't stop the conspiracy theories whirling.
Gulianni would be even less likely, so thats probably what will happen.
So, Dane, how do you like being on the same team with Jim Gilchrist?
ROFLMBO!!
Assesment from Chris Simcox on Gilchrist Huckabee Presidential endorsment.
Just got this from Chris: OK my friends, I think this will do it -now spread my words far and wide! Chris Simcox
No National Minuteman Group has endorsed Huckabee. One individual Minuteman has personally endorsed him. For the sake of clarity, it is important to note that the Minuteman Civil Defense Corps (MCDC), the nation's largest Minuteman organization, is a 501(C)4 non-profit organization and cannot and does not endorse any candidate for public office. MCDC is not associated with Mr. Jim Gilchrist, who today endorsed Mike Huckabee for president. Jim Gilchrist’s erstwhile Minuteman Project is itself an organization which by its own representations as a non-profit civic group, cannot legally endorse candidates. It does not have any volunteers who observe illegal border activity. It has no border fence building projects. Jim Gilchrist here speaks only for Jim Gilchrist, he does not speak for the Minuteman Civil Defense Corps, nor is he nationally representative of most patriots in the "Minuteman movement" – who under no circumstances could ignore the failed record nor endorse the duplicitous “plan” recently rolled out by candidate Mike Huckabee. The national media needs to recognize that Jim Gilchrist’s endorsement is his own personal Assesment, nothing more. The Minuteman Civil Defense Corps emphasizes policy dealing with national border security. The only "plan" to ensure border security that is acceptable to our constituency would be a candidate policy Assesment declaring that his first act as President will be to hold a press conference and announce to the American people an executive order to immediately deploy and fund 30,000 National Guard personnel to the U.S. Borders (25,000 to the southern border and 5,000 to the northern border) to complement a massive increase in U.S. Border Patrol Agent field personnel, and a bilateral effort to secure our frontiers, smash the drug cartels, shut down the human smugglers and protect the public safety of the citizens who reside along the borders on both sides of our national boundaries. Unlike this last-minute opportunism attempted by Huckabee, many of the other GOP presidential candidates have actually helped push the issue of national border security forward for some time. Tom Tancredo’s many years of hard work on the border crisis and illegal immigration issues have all the candidates striving to sound like him. Duncan Hunter can take personal credit for getting the highly effective San Diego border fence built. Ron Paul has been to the border with us first hand and aggressively pushed positive border legislation. Alan Keyes has done more than anyone to support the organizational development of MCDC, and personally participated in the Minuteman Border Fence Groundbreaking – advancing a citizen’s construction effort which has forced Congress to finally get the Feds building physical border fence. Only one Minuteman group is conducting regular multi-Asses border security efforts, building fence and aggressively monitoring Washington DC: Minuteman Civil Defense Corps. We would like to extend an invitation to all the presidential candidates, Republican and Democrat, to come to the border and see what is really happening on our nation’s frontier. Not to take the safe little government photo-op helicopter ride, but see the lay-up sites full of trash and debris. See the rape trees. See the violent crime in the border towns. Walk on the pathways of destroyed environmental terrain trampled by tens of thousands of invading foreign migrants. See what the American elites’ support of broken borders, unfettered illegal immigration and sanctuary cities is doing to our fellow Americans who live on our borderlands, and how these failed policies imperil our nation’s safety, security and prosperity.
This is the same type of propaganda you gave us while supporting Chris Cannon, who is another open border "compassionate conservative". Hate to break this to you but the US is not a little district in Utah and Huckabee is not going to be president.
