Paging Sir Edmund Hillary (Hillary Lies About Her Age ... Again)
Captain's Quarters ^ | Dec. 13, 2007 | Ed Morrissey

Posted on 12/13/2007 3:39:31 PM PST by jdm

Recall the embarrassment Hillary Clinton suffered when she tried to explain she'd been named after Sir Edmund Hillary after he'd climbed Mount Everest -- only to have it pointed out that she had been five years old at that time? Well, she still seems a little confused about her birth date. Here's an interesting passage in today's debate:

Hillary: We've got to enlist the American people the way we did in a previous generation for the Apollo program. As a little girl, I remember being thrilled about that, and feeling there was something I could do. [Shrugs] My fifth-grade teacher said it was to study math and science, but it gave me an idea of actually contributing to my country.

Hillary Clinton was born in 1947. Assuming she started the first grade as a six-year-old as most kids do, she would have been in the fifth grade in 1957-1958. The Mercury program didn't start until 1961, and Apollo started in 1966. John Kennedy didn't even make his speech about going to the moon until she was a teenager, not a "little girl".

It's these tall tales -- trying desperately to make herself seem warm and empathetic -- that demonstrate the phoniness of Hillary Clinton. Her husband can pull this off. She can't, and maybe she should stop trying.

UPDATE: Allahpundit at Hot Air calls Hillary's offer to have a show of hands for global warming her "Tracy Flick" moment. It's a great reference, and dead on. How many know what it is, and do you agree?

Hmm. I wouldn’t exactly call this a lie. More like an incomplete reference. She mentioned the Apollo program but the space program had been ongoing for far longer. I think she merely forgot to refer generically to the space program in her second sentence. I’m about her age and I remember being fascinated about space at an early age, even before the space race kicked off.

OK, taking cover over here now. Save your flames, I’ve got my flame retardant jammies on so I won’t even feel it!

Just to clarify a couple of things:

Project Mercury began on October 7, 1958.
The Apollo program started in 1960 (but did not really get going until Kennedy’s speech in May 1961).

Hillary’s still a liar, but let’s keep our facts straight

You must have missed Hillary's explanation:

"Well, let me clarify the meaning of my statement's meaning."

"I did not, now nor ever, mean to imply that my fifth grade teacher told me this while I was actually in her fifth grade class."

"She was a warm, wonderful progressive person whom I greatly admired; and she recognized future greatness in me."

"This gave cause for us to mutually remain in contact for many years until her unfortunate demise, just before reporters could arrive to question her about our relationship and conversations..."

The Apollo program started in 1961. Hillary was 14 years old.

Either she is lying or she is mentally incompetent.

So is Hillary a fool or a fraud?

Hillary graduated from Wellesley in 1969.

BUT in the books I read about her this summer there were a couple of iffy age mistakes leading me to believe she's older than 60... more like 62. And, Bubba may be older too according to these tombs about them.

It does explain. Thank God, someone finally pointed this out. Liars have actual deficits which, to my experience, makes them MORE DANGEROUS. Hillary must be rejected. BTW, is anyone else not buying all the ‘unapproved’ jury tainting by her campaign? Smear then apologize and back it up with a ‘firing’. It’s all premeditated. Hillary Clinton is the most amoral personality I have ever witnessed.

Yeah, this is much less of a bombshell than the Sir Edmund Hillary thing. If she was in the fifth grade in 1957-58, that’s right at the time when Sputnik first went into orbit and Explorer followed a few months later.

There is a very simple explanation. To quote Robin Williams
“Anyone who remembers the 60s wasn’t there”. She was probably stoned out of her mind during that decade, thus the lapse of memory.

I think that Hillary is unable to trust people.

She lies to please whomever she is speaking to.
She blames Right Wing Conspiracies for her husband's troubles, rather than blaming her husband for his infidelity.

Her mother Dorothy's background may give a hint of the origins of the distrust .

Dorothy Rodham's background was far bleaker. When she was as young as 3, her parents often left her alone all day in a fifth-floor walk-up on Chicago's South Side. They divorced in the late 1920s, a rare shame in those days.

At age 8, Dorothy and her 3-year-old sister were dispatched by train to California to live with their grandmother, who was equally neglectful, once locking Dorothy in her room for several months, Clinton wrote.

I can understand, from Hillary's family background
why Hillary has such an "ivory tower" attitude toward life
why she has such impractical solutions for problems.
why she is a control freak trying to make everything perfect
I feel sorry for Hillary, but I don't want her messing up life for the rest of us.

Sir, I assure, you, Hillary is no fool!

Sir, I beg to differ. Her Senator career is without any accomplishments, her Presidential Campaign sails from gaff to scandal to incompetence and back again. She was inept as both a wife and mother. In fact, her accomplishments thru out her life are so few one has to wonder just WHERE she got this reputation for both toughness and competence.

I agree that her comments aren’t that farfetched. By “Appollo” she simply could have been referring to the space race in general (Sputnik in 1957), or Mercury (astronauts selected in 1959). I wouldn’t make too much of this, although for the smartest woman in the world to confuse Mercury with Appollo is “disappointing.” :-)

Also explains why she doesn't believe that nearly all parents are perfectly able to raise their own children, without a village's "help".
