CNN) -- Two graduate students were found shot to death Thursday night in an apartment on the edge of the Louisiana State University campus, a spokeswoman for the school said.
No suspects have been identified in what police are investigating as a double homicide, LSU spokeswoman Kristine Calongne said.
The bodies of Chandrasekhar Reddy Komma and Kiran Kumar Allam, both Ph.D. candidates from India, were found inside an apartment of the Edward Gay Complex. The complex is near the LSU band's practice field, Calongne said.

The Associated Press reported that Allam's pregnant wife found the bodies and called 911.
The victims appear to have been shot in the head during a home invasion robbery. Investigators are looking for three men who were seen leaving the area, the AP reported.

No. The "Edward Gay" apartments are just off campus (and, unfortunately) just across the street from a "majority black" (actually a ghetto) section of town.
I suspect the perps are some folks who were forced out of New Orleans by Hurricane Katrina and set up shop in Baton Rouge.
Maybe yes, maybe no. BR has plenty of home-grown thugs.
I don't think you'll find anyone from Baton Rouge to say other than that the crime rate has increased significantly "post-Katrina".
I lived in BR for quite a few years, and the "crime level" didn't begin to compare to NO's. Certain neighborhoods were "bad" (and unfortunately the area to the North of the LSU where these apartments are) were bad even back then.

....no indication of forced entry.
They may have simply answered the doorbell and found armed thugs on the other side. Being from overseas, they may not have realized what a dangerous area they had moved into.
Agreed. That's what I hear from everyone down there.

I too lived in Big BR for many years. As you say crime was never as bad as in N.O. but it was still plenty bad, especially north of campus. Thugs would go down to around campus for easier pickings. Probably what happened here. Typical thugs looking to jack someone who they thought would have cash and valuable possessions and be less likely to respond with deadly force.
hmm
