America's Priorities in the War on Terror ("Bush admin...arrogant bunker mentality")
Foreign Affairs ^ | 15 Dec 2007 | Michael D. Huckabee

Posted on 12/15/2007 2:54:07 PM PST by Mr Rogers

The United States, as the world's only superpower, is less vulnerable to military defeat. But it is more vulnerable to the animosity of other countries. Much like a top high school student, if it is modest about its abilities and achievements, if it is generous in helping others, it is loved. But if it attempts to dominate others, it is despised....

We must first destroy existing terrorist groups and then attack the underlying conditions that breed them: the lack of basic sanitation, health care, education, jobs, a free press, fair courts -- which all translates into a lack of opportunity and hope. The United States' strategic interests as the world's most powerful country coincide with its moral obligations as the richest. If we do not do the right thing to improve life in the Muslim world, the terrorists will step in and do the wrong thing....

Long article worth reading. I could write a better one drunk or sober. Frightening that someone could be taken as a serious candidate and write drivel like this.

He repeats the claim we went in with too few troops. He neglects to mention that we had a bunch ready to enter via Turkey, only to be denied. Moving those troops to Kuwait would have pushed the invasion into summer, with 130 deg heat. Ever worn Chem gear in 100+ heat? I have, and there is a reason we didn’t take that option.

I tried, really I did to read this whole writing. I just kept seeing the proverbial tax plate getting pass as demonstration of kindness and generosity to the world.

“When we let bin Laden escape at Tora Bora, a region along the Afghan-Pakistani border, in December 2001, we played Brer Fox to his Brer Rabbit.”

Another quote that sounds like Huckabee is channeling John F’n Kerrey.

You guys have to see this. Wow. Just wow. I don’t know if I’m more blown away by laughable writing skills or his abject leftism and lack of critical thinking in dealing with the muzzies. Honestly, ANYBODY would be better than him, even Fruity Ruity or Ru Paul.

Now I remember why I don’t like this guy. I read something about or by him before his campaign ever began and I didn’t like him.

This is unbelievably naive, ignorant, simplistic, socialistic and missing the point of his own supposed faith and it’s role in our nation’s founding and it’s subsequent blessings.

Others lack our blessings, not because we are selfish but because they have failed to embrace the principles upon which our blessings are based.

What a moron. This is the first one to make me think Hillary may not be so bad. Now, that’s bad.

I read it.

Huckabee says he would have employed the “Powell Doctrine” and sent 450,000 troops to invade Iraq. This figure is close to the total number of active duty personnel in the U.S. Army.

In Iraq, we played the Tar Baby to his Br'er Fox. Or flypaper to his fly. Or rhinovirus to his nose. Or the Sta-Puff Marshmallow Man to his ... oh, who cares. We killed his organization. We killed his allies. We killed his reputation. We killed his dreams of jihad. His and Zawahiri's mentor, Dr Fadl, is now saying, 'Oops, on that jihad stuff... nevermind.'

Ann Coulter has nailed the Huckamuck, the GOP's Jimmy Carter.

Is that where he describes “the underlying conditions that breed [terrorists]: the lack of basic sanitation, health care, education, jobs, a free press, fair courts — which all translates into a lack of opportunity and hope.

This is like something Michael Moore would write.

Unless we bend over and let Europe rape us up the rear, they will NEVER love us. Their society has gone so far down the atheist road, they cannot understand America. They also have a lot of problem with understanding freedom.

"A more successful U.S. foreign policy needs to better explain Islamic jihadism to the American people. Given how Americans have thrived on diversity -- religious, ethnic, racial -- it takes an enormous leap of imagination to understand what Islamic terrorists are about, that they really do want to kill every last one of us and destroy civilization as we know it. If they are willing to kill their own children by letting them detonate suicide bombs, then they will also be willing to kill our children for their misguided cause. The Bush administration has never adequately explained the theology and ideology behind Islamic terrorism or convinced us of its ruthless fanaticism. The first rule of war is "know your enemy," and most Americans do not know theirs. To grasp the magnitude of the threat, we first have to understand what makes Islamic terrorists tick. Very few Americans are familiar with the writings of Sayyid Qutb, the Egyptian radical executed in 1966, or the Muslim Brotherhood, whose call to active jihad influenced Osama bin Laden and the rise of al Qaeda. Qutb raged against the decadence and sin he saw around him and sought to restore the "pure" Islam of the seventh century through a theocratic caliphate without national borders. He saw nothing decadent or sinful in murdering in order to achieve that end. America's culture of life stands in stark contrast to the jihadists' culture of death."
Let's see, acording to this article, Huck supports US victory in Iraq, wants to attack al-Qaeda strongholds in Pakistan, wants to crush the PKK, supports anti-ballistic missile systems in Poland and Czech Republic and opposes the Law of the Sea Treaty. What a liberal!

The Bush administration has properly said that it will not take the military option for dealing with Iran off the table. Neither will I. But if we do not put other options on the table, eventually a military strike will become the only viable one. And nothing would make bin Laden happier than this outcome; he would welcome war between the United States and Iran.

Another way to contain Iran is through diplomacy. We must be as aggressive diplomatically as we have been militarily since 9/11

LOL, careful Hucklenut. This 'new' policy sounds a bit more like the one coming from the actual conservative that's been standing up on stage with you...you wouldn't be trying to still some votes now would you pastor? Been seeing all those crowds and wondering what it's all about perhaps?

I am less hopeful that Russia will be helpful. Since Russia benefits from high energy prices, President Vladimir Putin has more incentives to keep energy markets jittery than to resolve the crisis with Iran. Russia also profits handsomely from selling weapons to Iran, mostly air defense systems intended to protect Iran from possible U.S. air strikes

Whew, I thought the theology major had actually discovered peace and prosperity for a minute. Nothing like ramping up some unneeded angst towards the 'Russkies' to get the 'conservative' vote though...

>>>Much like a top high school student, if it is modest about its abilities and achievements, if it is generous in helping others, it is loved.

If??!!

[Duncan Hunter]...we gave Japan a constitution. MacCarther taught them to have a democratic country. Today, they are a democracy. They are a free country. That is in our interest. They are also a strong economy. We gave them a lot of jobs after WW2. We stood them up. We helped them up. We helped up Europe. We gave freedom to countries like El Salvador. We gave freedom to South Korea. We protected them. We occupied South Korea. We occupied Japan. Today they are good friends of the United States.

[Duncan Hunter]...This country has lost 619 thousand Americans on the battlefields around the world in the last 100 years making the world safe. The reason we are not sending people back to Nazi Germany because we took care of Nazi Germany and we liberated the Germans and the reason we are not sending people back to a Communist Poland is because we brought down the Berlin Wall. The reason we are not sending people back to a Marxist Dictatorship in El Salvador is because we liberated El Salvador. We have made the world much freer. And we have pumped billions of dollars into lots of countries to improve their economies...
