“Actually, it sounds more like youre giving government a pass.”
If I gave that impression, then it must be my poor communication skills.
“But when someone is hired to act on behalf of ALL people,.....”
Again, I think we really agree.
People make, or break, a well designed government.
Were it not for people, our government might work properly.
Merry Christmas to you, friends, and family.
Here’s a present for you.
Hope you like it.

Hey, Toolman. Relax.
You’re not following me, because I’m not the “Pro-Illegal Alien” stooge you want me to be, so that you can be against me.
We’re not on opposite sides of this, pal.
You think automation helps with efficiency, and could help reduce labor costs.
And I agree, much to your disappointment.
RockinRight said in 91 that his solution is for Electrolux to pay better wages, and pull a better class of legal workers away from McDonalds.
And I think you and I would agree that that’s not a viable solution to America’s problems, to simply raid McDonalds for a better industrial workforce!
So, Electrolux has a choice to make.
1- They can spin up, and build out, and minimize their labor costs with an investment in automation with your help.
2- Or they can raise prices when their output falls and put “Made in USA by English Spikkers” on the label so patriotic consumers will flock to it.
3- They can pay higher wages, bulk up their factory floor with McD kids, and use that sticker in #2.
or
3- They can close another couple of plants, OEM it from somewhere else, pump up the corporate numbers for another year or two, and eventually fire all their remaining workers.
My point is that American Consumers don’t give a damn about the plant, the plant closures, the politics of it, or the finacial aspect of it as long as it’s not their job.
And until the CONSUMER demands something other than immediate price, price, price, and no concern whatsoever about life-cycle, durability, etc, etc.....then the cheapo-crappo chinese junk, Mexico Maquilladora junk factory is going to keep satisfying that market.
Get a consumer to buy for value, and then long-term tooling and workforce investments come back to America.
The business people I deal with today are no different than the greedy barron CEOs and such from the 50’s. They’re giving what the customer wants to pay for.
It’s just that now the customer doesn’t want to pay for cast-iron chrome grills....they want shiny plastic for cheaper. They don’t want steel bumpers on a safer car, they want throwaway styrofoam bumpers that make the car lighter and get 0.0003 cents/mile better mileage.
I believe that all of this is NOT due to a new class of greed in the corporations, but a greed and short-sightedness in the customer....and by extension....all of those new customers that climbed into mutual funds.....driving American Corporations to do stupid things from BOTH ENDS.
OK, but I do believe that most Americans want the most bang for their bucks. I bought a $450 vacuum cleaner that worked great for 6 months, then I spent $120 on a better one that did not fall apart. It wasnt an Electolux.
Rest in Peace, and thanks for the memories, Danny boy....
Heh-heh-heh! Yeah! It sucks! Heh-heh-heh!
Joining the Unions that American workers just won’t join.
Much better, I like. ty.
