Last I read (a year or so ago) is that they have moved to another site closer to the coast but still affiliated with these same early people.

The site is huge...top left hand corner, see ‘cisterns’ - and note the canal...

Layout of the entire Caral area. Map shows habitation sites along the entire length of the river...

The Sacred City of Caral was one of the first cities constructed in the Central Andes and in the Americas. It is also evidence of the birth of civilization and of the formation of state-level social organization in the New World, achieved in isolation, without any contact with civilized societies in other parts of the world.

It is Dr. Ruth Shady Sols head of Special Archaeological Project Caral-Supe (Lima) who deserves fully credit on the discovery of the age of Caral. (sic.)

Am I missing something? Jericho was PPNA (early Neolithic) at least - 8000 BC or so.

Interesting. Just saw a BBC program on Caral. No hint at all of problems between Shady and the couple, but the program seemed a bit strained, and am not surprised that there were significant omissions.

Don't know if you've read the Aubrey/Maturin series; Maturin was rarely without coca leaves and lime after making the discovery.
Thanks for the link.
