Al-Qaida's No. 2 Ayman al-Zawahri warned of "traitors" among insurgents in Iraq and called on Iraqi Sunni Arab tribes to purge those who help the Americans in a new videotape posted Monday on the Web.
Al-Zawahri's comments were aimed at undermining so-called "awakening councils" — the groups of Iraqi Sunni tribesmen that the U.S. military has backed to help fight al-Qaida in Iraq and its allies.
Some Sunni insurgent groups have fought alongside American forces, and the U.S. military has touted the councils as a major factor in reducing violence in war-torn regions like Iraq's Anbar province.
In the 90-minute video, al-Zawahri warned of the "presence of hypocrites and traitors among the ranks of the mujahedeen working and fighting for the Americans."
The mujahedeen "must throw out the bribe-taking collaborators from among their ranks, those who sold out their faith and fight under the banner of the cross. They must expose them to the Muslim world," al-Zawahri said. "Those who support the Americans are despicable scum," he said.
"The tribe or clan that does not cleanse itself of traitors and apostates will be remembered in history for generations as one of the collaborators and traitors," he warned. "But any clan or tribe that defends Islam and crushes traitors ... will be remembered in Arab history with pride and glory."
The video was made in the form of an interview of al-Zawahri by Al-Sahab, the media arm of al-Qaida. Al-Zawahri — wearing a white turban and robes — sat in front of shelves of Islamic theology and law books, answering questions from an unseen interviewer.
Earlier this month, the Islamic State of Iraq — the insurgent coalition in Iraq linked to al-Qaida — announced a new campaign against members of awakening groups.

“Those who support the Americans are despicable scum,” he said.
That leaves out the Democrats.
They have been decimated by many of their own faith. And in a desperate move, they are encouraging their own to go out and kill other Muslims they suspect of fraternizing with their enemy (the USA).
Think about what this message says to those terrorists huddled in hiding. “Don’t trust anyone.” “They are among us and must be purged.” “Kill anyone that conspires with Americans or freedom.”
Let’s not overthink what “new” strategy they must be trying to implement. It seems to me, they are out of ideas, at least in Iraq. I pray we continue the clean up effort with the emerging honorable Iraqi people.
He’s only a shade away from sending the message; “To all AQ: kill the man next to you; he is a traitor.” Page One of the Final Chapter, I’d say.
This will be Zawahari’s last “operational” directive to the field.
The next one goes like this, “All is lost...... The infidels have won.”
You notice how we don’t see much discussion about these Al Qaeda communications anymore in the LSM. They don’t like the foreboding of what it means.
Time to clam up and hope for the best. Traitors all.

Earlier this month, AQ's figmented-leader Al-Baghdadi admitted that only 200 mujaheeden were left in Iraq. He ordered them to each make 3 attacks by the end of January.
So there are supposed to be 10 attacks per day (600 attacks divided by 60 days) against 72,000 armed Iraqis in the Awakening and 154,000 armed Americans there.
Instead, the U.S. has lost only 10 good men to combat (and 3 more to non-combat incidents like vehicle accidents) by this point in the first of our enemy's two month offensive against us.
Frankly, an old West American Indian tribe could do more damage than that. If sent to Iraq today armed with bows, knives, and the occasional rifle, Quanah Parker and Sitting Bull would be killing more of us than AQ can manage.
So our fatalities are dropping by half in yet another consecutive month.
One wonders just who will even notice this war once AQ's current "grand offensive" ends next month...
