Mayor Bloombergs political guru, Kevin Sheekey, continues his quest to get his boss in a position to run for president.
According to a well-placed source, Sheekeys latest project is to figure out if they could get California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger as a potential running mate. This summer, Bloomie and Arnie shared a few centrist photo ops.
The East CoastWest Coast alliance would have its advantages in the Electoral College, certainly. But other parts of the Constitution are more problematic, like where it mentions that only a natural-born Citizen shall be eligible for the Office of President. It doesnt mention the veep, though.
The source says Bloomberg has lawyers studying things like succession plans to see how it would work: If something happens, say, to President Bloomberg, does that mean Vice-President Schwarzenegger is overlooked and the Speaker of the House (Nancy Pelosi) gets to take over?
A spokesman for Bloomberg declined to comment.
So who would be to the right of such a centrist on this issue? Someone who wants people publicly drawn and quartered?
Bloomberg On Schwarzenegger...
The DNs Adam Lisberg caught up this morning with Mayor Bloomberg, who, after spending a week in China and Bali, reapplied himself with great vigor to the localest of local issues...
Asked about the last time he saw California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger (Kevin Sheekeys dream VP, according to New York magazine), Bloomberg replied:
Number one, I had dinner with him on Saturday night. And number two, he couldnt be vice president. The Constitution is clear. You have to be able to be president to be vice president. I dont know where that story came from, but the law would not allow it. Incidentally, hes a great guy. Hed make a great vice president... This guys a substantive guy who really is serious about governing, and I think California - hes going to be term-limited out - Californias going to miss him, because he really has made a difference in his term in his office. But Saturday nights the answer to your question, and I had steak a la stone. (snip)
Center of LEFT, of course.
That Boxer removal dream died months ago, sorry.
Only to a New Yorker would Bloomberg and Schawarzenegger seem like centrists. They’re liberals.
I was a Republican conservative back when Goldwater was running. What was Rudy, then? What was Arnold, then?
I never had a reason to change, because I never wanted anything bad enough, to steal it!
I don’t have much, but what I have is honestly mine!
None of these city boys could figure out which leg to piss down, if one of their feet caught fire, except for FRED!
Hell, I could be wrong about him, too! Won’t be the first time! BUAIDH NO BAS
I’m talking about centrists in general, not on the issue of the death penalty. “New Democrats” like Bill Clinton and Al Gore tout their support for the death penalty as proof that they’re not liberals and can appeal to swing voters. Even Hillary Clinton says she supports the death penalty. Mike Bloomberg can’t make that claim without flip-flopping.
Arnie cannot run - he fails to meet the Constitutional qualification.
Thank God! Now Bloomie would not take votes from Republicans, but Arnie would.
Those people must be out of their frakkin minds...
You said support for the death penalty is essential to being a centrist.
Because anyone who against it is “too far to the left” and not in touch with the mainstream. Centrists say that they’re not too far to the right or the left.
The trend seems to be in the other direction, however.
