Clinton's Ties to Burkle Include Funds in Offshore Tax Haven
Yahoo News ^ | December 17, 2007 | Timothy J. Burger and Ryan J. Donmoyer

Former President Bill Clinton's decision to reconsider a business relationship with California billionaire Ron Burkle reflects concern those financial dealings may embarrass his wife's presidential candidacy.

Securities and Exchange Commission documents and financial- disclosure forms filed by Hillary Clinton show that Bill Clinton, 61, has a financial stake in three investment entities registered in the Cayman Islands by Burkle's Yucaipa Cos. LLC.

In 2004, Hillary Clinton, a New York senator, said she wanted to ``close the loopholes'' for ``people who create a mailbox, or a drop, or send one person to sit on the beach in some island paradise and claim that it is their offshore headquarters.''

The former president's possible decision to move away from Burkle ``is all tied up with the laws of appearance and the politics of perception,'' said Linda Fowler, professor of government at Dartmouth College in Hanover, New Hampshire. ``The world being what it is, people are attracted to the spouse of somebody with political power. The level of potential conflict is just that much higher with a former president and a senator who would be president.''

Moreover, added Fowler, ``with this particular couple, somehow, the whole story doesn't come out except in dribs and drabs.''

Bloomberg News last month submitted a list of questions to the Clinton campaign regarding the former president's involvement in the three Caymans-based funds. The campaign didn't respond to the queries until Dec. 13, after the New York Times reported that Clinton plans to dissolve his five-year partnership with Burkle, a longtime friend and important fund- raiser for both Clintons.

`An Appropriate Transition'

Jay Carson, a Clinton spokesman, said that while the former president hasn't ``severed ties'' with Yucaipa, he ``is taking steps to ensure'' that ``there will be an appropriate transition for those relationships'' if his wife receives...

Bill Clinton has also received ``over $1,000’’ a year in ``guaranteed payments to partner’’ from Yucaipa Global Holdings and a predecessor fund.

The government forms don’t require lawmakers to specify an exact amount for spouses.

If Hillary gets into office there is going to be lots and lots of payback. The Federal Park Service might as well build a crematorium at Fort Marcy Park.

You know, we always think the Clintons are after power in order to make the United States into a Socialist Utopia. Maybe in the 1970s they did feel that way.

But did we ever stop to think that maybe the Clintons have found out along the way that MONEY is more powerful than elected leadership, but that elected leadership is the best way to steal money? LOTS of it?? Maybe that is all they are about these days. Get the money to get the leadership, get the leadership to get even MORE of the money.

These people are so utterly heartless and selfish that they are absolute damage to our country.

THE TOLL OF A CAMPAIGN

Rush’s theory on the Drudge pics...could be for the sympathy factor or just that Americans are addicted to physical perfection. Rush mentions that Lurch got botox during his campaign and how aging is not considered attractive.

So Rush asks—will this country want to watch a woman get older on a daily basis before their eyes for four years? Take a look at the changes in W, says Rush. Men aging makes them look more distinguished and authoritative, however, this is not the same for women.

In the Los Angeles Times today.

— While in private business, Mitt Romney utilized shell companies in two offshore tax havens to help eligible investors avoid paying U.S. taxes, federal and state records show.

I like to watch Oprah on occasion but I do agree that she has WAYYYYY TOO MUCH POWER!
OMG!
It absolutely blows my mind how people worship her!

I wonder if she really stopped eating beef as she swore she would a few years ago.

Capone was jailed.......these two will be found out.

Found out is one thing....

We "found" out.. that Bill Clinton is a rapist. Heck...politicians of both Houses...found out evidence that reportedly "made them sick". But nothing happened to him.

Not to mention "wagging the tail of the dog", Ron Brown, Loral, Chinese "funny money", "suicides" in the W.H., people falling off roofs, cat's dying, Billy Dale, pill factories, orange jump suits, and the "meaning of is"...

IMO, you are living in a dream world...if you think an ex-first lady and her rapist husband will ever see jail time.
