-- Week 139 of Celebrating Our Wounded Warrior Heroes
Washington, DC, December 14th, 2007-- While [Mrs] T was preparing for the D.C. Chapter Christmas Party (thread is forth coming if not already up) I [Mr T] arrived at WR and began setting up a banner around 6:30. By 7, we already had 3 FReepers there. It was starting to look like a good night.
|
The wind had picked up so a decision was made to not put up the MOAB. Instead, MOAB Jr. was put up. Jr is our all weather banner. It is put up in the wind and rain. And it has its own battle scars. Just about every place where the plastic ties are, it has been ripped and duck taped together. There is a small mom & pop hardware store nearby Olney that sells colored duct tape. So with blue duct tape in hand, Jr. has been mended and returned to service. Jr. was given to the Olney FReepers almost two years ago by an Iraqi Vet, thanking us for being out there, supporting our troops. |
|
VictoryNY was one of the early FReepers tonight. She had two bags of flags that were quickly put up on the fence behind Jr. |
| Lurker Bill also showed up a little early and by 7:30 he had three more banners up. A few more FReepers and then that was it. After a good start, we could only muster 7 FReepers and lurkers. | |
|
The only good thing about our lack of “boots on the corner” tonight was that the moonbats could only muster 5 or 6. Not sure of the exact number because we could not spare any one to walk down and count them. (Actually, I did get one greasy pic of the whole line of them...PD) |
|
For the out of towners, if you are going to be in the D.C. area visiting relatives for Christmas, please add an extra day to your trip and come to Walter Reed. If you forget your warm clothes, we have extra. We even have hand warmers. We also keep several cars warmed up if needed and there is always steaming hot coffee and hot water for making hot cocoa. I believe that Santa Claus will be with us on the 21st. If nothing else, the elves will be there. If you are in town for Jan. 04, please come on over to Walter Reed. But I doubt if the New Years Eve baby will be there. Just us regular Freepers. |
|
But there were still some high lights. We still received a good number of honks, waves, air horn blasts, flashing head lights and police emergency lights.
|
Plea Deal has the story on a car that stopped and on a soldier that spent a long time out with us, or I should say with VictoryNY. She spent most of her time this week on the corners at WR’s entrance. About 5 cars with wounded soldiers stopped and talked to her. Apparently she is well known in WR for all the good she does for our wounded troops. (The car that stopped by contained BigJohn Miska and his friend Arnie -PD) |
|
|
Another car stopped at Lurker Bill’s corner and gave us two jugs of Dunkin Donuts’ hot white chocolate drink. The stuff isn’t too bad but I’m not a lover of white chocolate. It is real thick and rich, almost like eggnog. Plea Deal had already brought the hot coffee and hot water for making hot cocoa, so we had some left over for the Olney Freep. |

The bus filled with wounded warriors and family coming back from
the weekly free dinner.
And the buses came early. The smaller bus came first about 9:15 with the larger bus coming before 9:30. We had anticipated the bus between 9:30 and 10:30, but since they were at Adams Morgan enjoying a free dinner, they cam early, to our delight. We were all packed up and ready to go home in record time. It must have been the windy, chilly weather.
I can’t wait for the windy, cold, 20 degree temps to come. Tonight was just training. /sarc off
The Magnificent 7 FReepers & FRiends in attendance last Friday (If I missed anyone - please let me know!): Lurker Bill*, Cindy-True-Supporter, Fraxinus, Lurker George, PleaDeal, Trooprally [Mr.] and VictoryNY.
This week's photo collection(s) can be viewed here.
We'll be back out at Walter Reed Friday night, December 21st, from 6:30 until at least 9:30 at the intersection of Georgia Avenue and Elder Street, NW in Washington, D.C.
The wounded warriors inside the hospital are heartened by the sight of ordinary citizens cheering for them and displaying our thanks for the service and sacrifice they've made on our behalf.
A couple hours this Friday night is very little to give compared to what they've contributed!
Come join us every Friday night between the hours of 6:30pm to approx 9:30pm.
Directions to our Walter Reed freep location from the Takoma metro station

Ping to Walter Reed #139!
Nice!
I’m scheduled to be there this Friday, plus two ladies.
Since I Freep for the chicks and fresh air, I’ll be there.
Thanks for the AAR Plea Deal.
Magnificent report of a magnificent FReep.
BTTT!
Watch the weather, it might be wet. It will definitely be cold, relative to the D.C. area
[Mr] T
Chicks I understand, but fresh air while smoking your cigars - NOT
[Mr] T
I’ll see your two ladies and raise you 3 lurkers.
You are all truly MAGNIFICENT!
THANK YOU!
I look forward to seeing photos of you there.
Thanks for all the effort you make to do this!
And the CIGARS?
Thanks for going when you can. Wish I could make it too!
Hmmmm, my invitation must have gotten held up by the post office ;-) Nope, I've got a hotel room set for next Friday Dec 28 to come down. Just hope I shake this cold/sinus infection/laryngitis in time or I'll be using up all your handwarmers!
Haven’t been able to do it as often as I like. Looking forward to it.
The two ladies are from the West Chester counter-protests. One quit a six figure job to start a troop support organization.
Well done, intrepid Freepers! Well done!
I hope it is a balmy 60 degrees on the 21st.
You deserve it.
Great dedication there.
Was any After Action Report posted? Regardless, way to go!
Thanks for doing the report!
Wish I could be there.
Awww, I’m jealous!! Wish we had weather out here. Ever. Apparently they don’t believe in it. They shut down the city and roll up the streets if the song “Let it snow!” even comes on the radio... I’m gonna hafta find some winter somewhere to participate in. Too bad we won’t have that for the Christmas Freep!
Thanks for sharing!
:)
You folks are amazing with all you do. Bless you and Merry Christmas.
Will you be coming to Olney on Saturday AM? If so, some of us are heading up to Westminster for a 1 PM FReep. Care to join us? I-270 is just down the road and you can head back to NJ from there.
[Mr] T
So do the lefties still come out and protest?
Thanks for posting this PleaDeal. I especially love this pic:
SO TRUE!
I want to take this time to thank all that have gone out and demonstrated in support of those at Walter Reed. I truly appreciate it!
I recently had my Sunday School class send Christmas cards to those recovering at Walter Reed, and wanted to provide that information in case any others are interested in doing the same. Even if it’s not a Christmas card, it is a very easy way to bring a smile to the face of someone in pain.
Just address the card to the following:
A Recovering American soldier
c/o Walter Reed Army Medical Center
6900 Georgia Avenue,NW
Washington , D.C. 20307-5001
FReepmail me to be added to / deleted from this once-weekly ping list.
FANTASTIC BANNER! WE NEED ONE FOR OUR RALLY!
I have a suspicion that the Democrats/Liberals/Leftists don’t ever finish anything.
Exactly. Here’s an email about it from a friend of mine:
Dear Friends,
Some of you know that my son, Moshe, enlisted in the US Army. It is through his personal expression of great pride to serve and protect America that I have been given the opportunity to deepen my respect for his courage, dedication and commitment, as well as all those who volunteered their service, risking their lives to ensure our freedom and safety in our great country.
Until now, letters addressed to Any Soldier were returned due to security risks since the 911 attacks. The American Red Cross has offered to receive these letters now and distribute them to soldiers in hospitals across the country, as well as those recovering in hospitals overseas. Letters MUST be postmarked no later than December 24th. I did call the Red Cross to confirm the validity of this info.
Please take a few minutes to write a card or letter expressing your support, good wishes and thanks. (No packages)
When you go to bed at night feeling safe and secure in the comfort of your home youll be glad you took a moment to say thank you to a hospitalized soldier.
Mail to:

Perhaps you would be wiling to take an additional moment to forward this notice to your friends.
May G-d bless you and all serving in the armed forces,
BTTT
I’m so impressed that as many of you got out there in the cold, windy weather and during the busy time before Christmas as you did! God bless you and all our wounded warriers. Have a very Merry Christmas!
Thank YOU. Thank YOU. Thank YOU. Thank YOU. Thank YOU.
Lurker George & Lurker Bill, thanks to you both.
FR finest & FR lurkers finest support America’s finest!
I am looking forward to seeing as many of you as possible on December 28th...I am driving down from Massachusetts with my Brother and his son.
Buuuump!
Thank you Albion. I enjoyed reading the write up as always. Thanks for what you all do!
I was wondering if you were going to make it to WR. Good deal.
PS: Still waiting for some info from you.
[Mr] T
hmmmm, not sure if I'm up to a three-fer but if you can freepmail me addresses I'll mapquest/google the routes and see what I might come up with. Thanks for the offer!
Not one picture showed up on my puter. But thank you for standing in for the rest of us who live far away.
Merry Christmas to All.
You have a wonderful way with words. I think you are a Marine at heart.
