NEW YORK Russian President Vladimir Putin was named the Time magazine "Person of the Year."
Richard Stengel, Time's managing editor, said the 2007 honor went to the Russian leader "for an extraordinary feat of leadership in taking a country that was in chaos and bringing it stability."
Others in the running for the honor included Nobel Prize-winner Al Gore and author J.K. Rowling

Apparently General Petraeus, (Bill O’Reilly’s choice, as well as mine) did not merit consideration. Turning a lost war into a won war against a vicious enemy of America is not what TIME was looking for.

The thing is, The Surge was the biggest story of the year and Patraeus made it work. Should’ve been a no-brainer, but once again the press proves it has no brains.

Okay, having just returned from Russia I can say that Putin is very popular there. One should consider who it is attacking him — the same multinational corporate/foundation types who dislike conservatives in the USA.
Putin is a nationalist and it’s too bad we don’t have a leader like him in the White House.

Indeed they did, and what a glorious writeup they did of him, too, as an ally in 1943.

snip...
13. Do away with all loyalty oaths.
14. Continue giving Russia access to the U.S. Patent Office.
15. Capture one or both of the political parties in the United States.
16. Use technical decisions of the courts to weaken basic American institutions by claiming their activities violate civil rights.
17. Get control of the schools. Use them as transmission belts for socialism and current Communist propaganda. Soften the curriculum. Get control of teachers’ associations. Put the party line in textbooks.
18. Gain control of all student newspapers.
19. Use student riots to foment public protests against programs or organizations which are under Communist attack.
20. Infiltrate the press. Get control of book-review assignments, editorial writing, policymaking positions.
21. Gain control of key positions in radio, TV, and motion pictures.
22. Continue discrediting American culture by degrading all forms of artistic expression. An American Communist cell was told to “eliminate all good sculpture from parks and buildings, substitute shapeless, awkward and meaningless forms.”
23. Control art critics and directors of art museums. “Our plan is to promote ugliness, repulsive, meaningless art.”
24. Eliminate all laws governing obscenity by calling them “censorship” and a violation of free speech and free press.
25. Break down cultural standards of morality by promoting pornography and obscenity in books, magazines, motion pictures, radio, and TV.
26. Present homosexuality, degeneracy and promiscuity as “normal, natural, healthy.”
27. Infiltrate the churches and replace revealed religion with “social” religion. Discredit the Bible and emphasize the need for intellectual maturity which does not need a “religious crutch.”

I understand that the Person of the Year does not have to be for an honorable reason, and if they had named him because of the repression of his opposition I would understand it but their reason is stated "for an extraordinary feat of leadership in taking a country that was in chaos and bringing it stability."
Not hard to do when you silence the press, limit the political opponents from getting media coverage, etc.

Time loves a good commie. Precisely. Let's review the list of Commies that got Time's highest award:
- Iosef Stalin (twice)
- Nikita Khrushchev
- Deng Xiaoping (twice)
- Mikhail Gorbachev (twice)
Then you have Communist-enablers FDR (thrice; the only person to win 3 times) and Bill Clinton (twice).

Wishful thinking; TIME is warning the world to watch Putin closely. Keep your friends close and your enemies closer. This KGB hand operates in the darkness and finds himself under worldwide media scrutiny. Putin’s 2007 is not so important as his 2008. He needs to be watched and for this warning; thank TIME.
