Wealthy, privileged politician gets hospitalized at elite hospital for "flu", while millions are puking blood in filthy alleys and unable to afford even the most basic of healthcare. The Republicans have no plan to deal with the 43 million homeless children and 118 million in the US without access to healthcare.

Thousands of US children die every year due to typhoid, polio, hookworm and malaria and the Republicans turn a blind eye while sipping their lattes.

Do you think I have a future as a DNC fact-checker?

There are still a few Freepers who insinuate that Fred just looks too old to make it through a term in office, but I’ll bet he doesn’t go to the hospital when he thinks he might have the flu.

There is a flu bug floating around here in MO and from some who have had it, it would be enough to consult a physician.

I hope he feels better soon.

"Weenie. I’ve never gone to a hospital because of flu-like symptoms I just tough it out. Like a man."

I'd re-think that if I were you. In recent years there have been epidemics of illnesses with flu-like symptoms resulting in a high mortality rate. They are called flu-like because they can't be readily diagnosed and can be much more serious than your average flu. Usually the very young and older folks who have under-developed immune systems or weak immune systems, as in the case of older folks comprise the bulk of the mortality stat.

Been there, done that.

Well, I’m not a fan of Rudy’s either, but I hope it isn’t anything serious & that he gets on his feet soon.

Having said that - here is my take on this:

When a person is riding high in the polls, they are naturally going to feel better & a healthy person will be able to conquer the vast challenges of campaigning - in fact they will do it with gusto & superhuman determination.

Rudy has had a tough couple of weeks, some bad press coming out about him & his wife/former mistress & other stuff which is just going to get worse as the campaign wears on. I can speak from experience, that kind of stress wears you down & your immune system as well. When things start nagging at you & you go to bed worrying about little things, they start to add up & BINGO! - that’s when you will get sick.

I hope Rudy gets better, and then I hope he gets out of the race, it’s not going to get any easier for him. His enemies (and there are many on both sides of the race) are holding onto & timing their releases of information on Rudy that will sink him eventually. That’s what happens when a candidate has a lot of baggage like Rudy, hopefully, he is starting to realize that & will get out while he can with dignity.

A sickness is a good excuse to get out of a race before you hit rock-bottom. Time will tell.

He’d never get my vote, but I pray now for his speedy recovery.

What if it's MRSA? What if it's Bird Flu? What if you're in a risk group for being a fatality for simple "run of the mill" flu? The VA here in Miami makes it a major issue during the flu season. I just know they're raking in the BIG bucks from all those vets... Oh, wait...

The upshot: I'd rather be a live fool than a dead idiot. OTOH, your theory may very well serve to clean out the gene pool for future generations. Carry On.

Even the normal flu is worth getting an anti-viral shot; especially if you are looking forward to participating in a public venue over the next few weeks.

I don’t see a problem with being careful when he needs his health. I’m with you on that.

The flu?

Glad it’s not serious, and, yes, if you’re on the campaign trail, I guess a hospital is as good a place as any to get better.

I probably would have flown home and holed up in my own house.

I’m one of those that has to think I’m dying before I go to the doctor. My husband knows that if I say - “I’m making a doctor’s appointment”, or “take me to the emergency room” - it is BAD! His father died from a staph infection he picked up in the hospital - my father-in-law was one of those ‘go to the doctor for every little thing’ types of people.

I used to spend a lot of time in doctor’s waiting rooms taking some of my elderly relatives to the doctor & it was excruciating - listening to all the sniffles and being exposed to all of those sick people.

Unless you have some very compelling immune system problems or a serious disease, I would stay away from doctors and hospitals as much as possible.

Exactly right! I used to think that Freepers were a cut above the general population in the intelligence and common sense departments. The responses on this thread alone gives me reason to re-evaluate that.

"Giuliani had traveled across Missouri Wednesday by car.."

Missouri's fault.

Or the car.

A sickness is a good excuse to get out of a race before you hit rock-bottom. Time will tell.

It's not like the leftwing mayor didn't duck an earlier defeat by Hitlery due to "illness" back in 2000. Then decided he wouldn't run against her for Senate in 2006 either.

I still find these threads a little loopy. Would FR have prayer threads if we'd been around during the WW II/Cold War era if Hitler got the flu? If Stalin was hospitablized?

This smarmy I-hate-him-and-his-policies-to-his-dying-breath-but-want-to-pray-piously-for-his-health gets to be a bit phony after a while.

Politics aside, nobody here can honestly state that Giuliani isn’t a patriotic American. We can have differences with him, but they’re honest differences.

Nobody who checks into a hospital does so lightly. It’s not a Four Seasons hotel. His decision was based on medical advice, and stupid comments about butching it up and taking Kaopectate are made from an uninformed viewpoint.

I guarantee you that I’d prefer Giuliani over my current mayor, and although that’s not in the cards, I hope this turns out to be a minor health issue which is resolved quickly.

I agree. I wouldn’t vote for him in the primary unless Duncan Hunter drops out. But he might be my second choice; I just haven’t decided. I agree that no one on the campaign trail, certainly no one with the energy and passion which Guiliani possesses, just checks into a hospital. I have a hard time believing the ignorant comments on this thread.

I know what you mean! I think there is a level of political correctness that goes on - plus - we know that if we say what our first reaction really is - our words will be taken out of context & used against us by creeps like Bill O'Reilly & dummie underground.

My mother used to say, "hate the sin and love the sinner" - and I guess that's a lot of it too.
