DEERFIELD BEACH -- Broward County authorities say a man is been charged with murder following a road rage confrontation that resulted in his passenger being fatally shot.

Sheriff officials say 43-year-old Steven Lonzisero and another man approached a driver last week, accused him of driving poorly and shouted racial profanities.

That driver, 49-year-old Hygens Labidou, fired several shots from his legally permitted handgun. He struck Lonzisero and his passenger 28-year-old Edward Borowsky.

“How many crimes does 911 stop?”

None, but they do provide audio evidence of the event. As long as you are doing the right thing this can be valuable.

If he’s locked in his truck, it would take awhile for them to get to him, and if he points the gun at them and tells them to back off, unless they are really stupid, they back off.

I didn’t think I’d be able to figure out the facts of the case after I read “is been.” Is being? Has been?

As a writer and editor, it makes my head spin that so much garbage passes by the editors.

Read the link at post # 12.

If the account is accurate, he didn't have time to lock himself in his truck. These guys were bad people, who I doubt would have backed off.

He faces charges of murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without the intent to kill.

The article was written by a real idiot. It’s like a math problem with one part of the equation missing.

I am guessing what’s missing is the fact the Lonzisero had some sort of weapon when he approached the car.

Very simply “road rage is dangerous”, to your health. Take a deep breath and count to 10 and forget it.

Personally I would have called 911

Nice thought! But I am responsible for my protection the police are responsible for taking the report.

According to the account they were kicking the truck and trying to open the door. It sounds like he already was locked in the truck. When police arrived, he was outside the truck standing over the “suspects.” I’m not going to cry over the guy charged with murder though, he sounds like a really bad guy and that society would be better served if he was not amongst us. I just can’t figure at waht point deadly force was necessary.

At the point he feared for his life....

Right, when seconds count, the police are only minutes away, and 911 has a “Hold” button.

Sounds like the guy did what he had to do. It is exactly why the CCW laws are in effect.

“...to use his legally-permanent hand gun, firing several shots to defend himself sticking both men.”

Huh?

Here in Ohio, if you do that and your accomplice is killed, you can be charged.

That's the felony murder provision IIRC. A death of any party during the commission of a felony results in a murder charge. I seem to recall a perp being charged under that law (don't remember where) when a patron had a heart attack during a bank holdup.

I just can’t figure at what point deadly force was necessary.

The law reads when you fear for your life.

I have lived in that part of the world, currently live on the west coast of Florida. Lots of nut cases and criminals live in S. Florida transplanted from other parts of the country.

I can easily understand how a Haitian guy would fear for his life when two thugs start beating on his car with a weapon drawn and you are locked in a traffic flow.

I carry a S&W 40 everyday in Tampa, if two thugs started beating on my car with a knife drawn screaming at me trying to break into my car, I would have done the exact same thing........except both thugs would have been dead........

I don't know what they teach people in journalism school these days, but it can't be much.

"Repeat after me class: America bad. Capitalism bad. Bush Bad. Self defense bad."

I’m sure the “suspect” could say he feared for his life because of the “victim’s” driving. Was deadly force justified? Could simply pointing the gun at these two thugs have been enough to mitigate the situation?

I’m just thinking that if two guys, one of which has a knife get a gun pointed in their direction, they decide that they may need to back off.

“Personally I would have called 911 and then pulled the gun and told them to back off. I’m not really buying this guy’s self-defense story.”

I would have tossed the phone to the wife, simultaneously unholserting the weapon, she can call 911.

If no one is with me, weapon comes out first.
