How come all the skinny models have so much trouble in their lives? I think the average woman is happier with who she is than these people who are trying to please everyone else. They are making money yet are always looking so sour and mean and ugly. Plus, who the hell ever said that walk was attractive?????

That’s about right. It’s really a very shallow kerfuffle about a very shallow issue in a very shallow industry.

That muslim fashion magazines feature dolled up 7 year olds because showing the faces of adult women is forbidden?

If anybody goes out looking like that, they’d better carry something more lethal than a sword!

I don’t do any of that. I bite my nails (thanks to a certain teacher). I wear combat boots and fatigues. I like playing (electric) guitar, well overdriven. I also don’t mind getting dirty.

What was the joke I read somewhere?

“That isn’t haughty-— that look comes from always being hungry.”

Only 8% of the population is that thin naturally.... forcing yourself to be that thin can take it’s toll on your health-— physical and mental.

One of them looks like she’ll naturally have these “model” looks. We feed her as much hearty food as she’ll eat, but she’s still like that. But there’s no way we’re going to let her be exploited like this in any event. She deserves to have an innocent childhood.

What is even more bizarre is every decade the models get smaller and smaller and younger and younger.

Same for gymnastics. I used to love watching a long time ago, but I completely stopped when I heard the comment than an 18 year-old was considered to be the "old lady" of the team.

Do you get your eyebrows waxed? Have manicured nails? Get spa facials? Have you had pretty much all the hair on your body waxed or shaved? This is what my friend tells me her son and his friends are all into.

What man, who is busy with actual life, has time for all that?

Frankly, despite his marriage, I'm not entirely sure that your friend's son isn't gay.

There is a tie in trend between models, gymnastics and ballet all going for smaller and smaller, younger and younger.

Google any of the old ballet greats-— Fontaine for example. She’s HUGE and and lady compared to the baby ballerinas.

Google something like “Edith Head” and look at the models she used....old lady heiffers practically ;)

And yeah, same for gymnastics. I can’t watch girls I know who aren’t having periods because they are starving (same for ballet and models).

The child. Anyone involved should be brought up on child abuse and endangerment charges.

Isn’t it strange that in those professions the men are mostly in great shape and health, and of appropriate age, while they want the girls young and emaciated?

I thought we were talking about The NYT’s T mag. And the model’s face is shown. And she is 17 not 7.

OK. What did I miss?

Partly, I screwed up the HTML and missed this question:

So what’s left to talk about?

I was raising a CULTural comment, that in countries where the religion that was founded by a man who married a 6 year old, fashions and makeup are promoted by showing them on girls under the age of 8, because there 'real men' won't allow pictures of adult women to be shown.

Yes! Exactly. Tight t-shirts and skinny jeans. One of my friends has a married 22 yo son who dresses metro. Last summer he was at a cowboy bar with his cousin and the owner came and escorted them out telling them, “You boys don’t belong here!” LOL Thought they were gay! LOL

I think the metro thing is a little fem. I wonder how many of the cowboy types had painted on Wranglers?
