Meant to say the turkey is not indigenous to Britain

Now, I’m really envious. I’d like to see Boxing day here as well as the common sense approach to taking these days off.

We have some local byelaws but as far as I know they are not enforced and you see plenty of smoke coming from house chimneys and smell real coal being burnt when I think they are supposed to only burn smokeless.

This is often a surprise, since many had the idea that it was an English Goose, with Turkey being a change for Stateside consumption. But apparently Dickens chose the Turkey as Scrooge’s magnificent replacement for the Goose, which was what the Cratchits had in the Visit of Christmas Present.

Wallace to Osteen: Religion is playing a big role in this campaign.

Could that be because the media is shoving it down our throats 24/7?

Paul just doesn't get it

Or Paul gets it and is simply demagogues the issue in a cynical attempt to talk his way to power. I suspect you are correct in your assessment but the alternative, that Paul is simply saying what he thinks people want to hear is possible.

Merry Christmas to you and yours Rod!

Umm... yeah...

Iran would never attack Israel. Right. < /sarcasm> They’re a regime that was ushered in by the Islamic terrorist movement. That whole movement’s goal is to eradicate Israel. I know they’re shiites, and the AQ types are sunnis, but they have a common goal of reclaiming the eastern mediterranean coast for themselves.

C’mon Johnnie, join the revolution. When was the last time you heard a presidential candidate eliminate the IRS or get out of the UN?

Many years ago turkey and chicken were the delicacies and much more expensive especially the turkey as it was a difficult bird to raise.

The goose however, was more hardy and often private residence raised several and fattened them for Christmas either selling them locally or taking to market before Christmas. They often charged the poorer people so much as week so that come Christmas they had a bird for the annual feast.

Nowadays with intense farming methods things have switched dramatically around and the goose is now the more expensive delicacy unless you buy a free range bronze turkey or something similar.

I believe the Spanish introduced the turkey to Europe and Britain probably before the major migration to the US so it would have been around for many hundreds of years but very expensive not as now probably the cheapest form of meat pound for pound.
