The Rage in Huckabee's Voice
American Thinker ^ | December 22, 2007 | James Lewis

Posted on 12/23/2007 10:13:00 PM PST by neverdem

Foreign policy is about national survival. That's why we need a president who has really thought about rising Islamist nations with nukes.  All the more reason to appreciate the calm and mature thinking of Fred Thompson, Rudy Giuliani and Mitt Romney. They are adults.

That's why I feel so bothered by Governor Mike Huckabee's slick spin about terrorists and Iran. Huckabee's Foreign Policy article makes a totally imaginary distinction between the two:    With regard to Iran, we just haven't been nice enough to them for the last thirty years. With regard to terrorists, we should "eliminate them." The only trouble with that is, Tehran is the very home base of Islamist terrorism.  Huckabee has just cooked up a mishmash between dovish and hawkish positions. Like the holiday turkey-duck-chicken combination, this one smells like a Hawkodove, but it sure ain't gonna fly.

What's worse is hearing Huckabee's rage when he talks about these things.

'We haven't had diplomatic relationships with Iran in almost thirty years, most of my entire adult life. And a lot of good it's done.'
His voice becomes ragged with anger, as if he's been personally dissed along with the mullahs.  But as President Bush pointed out, the mullahs can pick up the phone any time they like. They can even call collect.  We'll pay for the call. Condi Rice suggested that Huckabee should "look at the facts." Frank Gaffney just called it "cockamamie."

Said Gaffney:
"This (Iran) is a country run by megalomaniacs bent on an apocalyptic outcome, who believe that bringing about a world without America is their god-given obligation. And you know, just talking with them, you know, "can't we all get along," Rodney King style, is not a prescription for a serious foreign policy, I'm afraid."
Jimmy Carter tried (desperately) to talk to the mullahs for ten months while our diplomats were held hostage in 1979. That's why Carter lost the 1980 election to Reagan. Ronald Reagan himself had his Iran-Contra fiasco when he was trying to talk with the mullahs. (Remember the famous chocolate cake?) Other presidents have been eager to find common ground. The idea that we haven't tried to communicate with Tehran is beyond absurd. It is ignorant.

For three decades now, Khomeinist mass rallies have echoed with the chant "Death to America! Death to Israel!" They are still chanting it today.  It's the equivalent of the "Heil Hitler!" chants at the Nuremberg rallies.

Which makes me wonder where Huckabee's anger is coming from  when he talks about Iran.  Just listen to him say it.

Either Huckabee's rage about our Iran policy is real, or it's faked. If it's real, he is so badly wrong that he's just disqualified himself. If his anger is faked, then Mr. Huckabee can't be trusted to talk sense to us about the biggest threats in the world today.

It's just not good enough. Arkansas governors can do fine without a deep understanding of foreign policy. Presidents can't.

Just watched him on C-Span....Road to the White House. I though he was terrible. Personally, I can’t see the attraction. He would be one of our worst presidents ever.

Actually the left would eat his lunch before he got there.

Arkansas governors can do fine without a deep understanding of foreign policy. Presidents can't.

And that, in a nutshell, is why the Huckster is not ready for prime time.

No Tin Foil Alert? I mean a guy who’s foreign affairs advisers are John Bolton and Frank Gaffney is a liberal fruitcake!

Another good article by Lewis.

Those supporting the Huckester have no knowledge or understanding that we are in the war for our lives.

We need a Commander in Chief not a TV Huckester who is all ego and no sense of reality.

Tehran is the very home base of Islamist terrorism.

Well, statistically speaking, that's not true - it's Saudi Arabia.

Huckabee is a demagogue and vastly under-qualified, but other than that he’s OK I suppose.

Do you have a link proving Bolton is the Huck’s policy advisor. I rather doubt that.

COOLER EXCLUSIVE- "Governor Graft" (Mike Huckabee)

Huckabee definitely sounds like a nanny statist with a new prohibition against tobacco. If the charge of accepting $35,000 from Novo Nordisk is true, one of the world's largest embryonic stem cell researchers, then you have hypocrisy too.

FRED THOMPSON is the best person to lead this country. He is a true conservative and has been his entire life. All one has to do is check his record to see this.

During my time in the Army as an Intelligence Analyst, I served under both Presidents Carter and Reagan (as my commanders in chief). Without argument, President Reagan was the best commander-in-chief a military person could ever have served under. Fred Thompson possesses the same qualities and vision as President Reagan in that he is strong on national defense and sees a dire need to secure our borders and control immigration.

I can think of no better person to lead this country and fix the problems we have. He is the only candidate from either party who has specific and detailed plans on border security and immigration reform; revitalization of America’s armed forces; saving and protecting Social Security; and tax relief and economic growth. These are detailed on his Web site at www.fred08.com . I challenge you to find any other candidate who has laid out specific plans to fix anything.

Fred Thompson has published his first principles, some of which are mentioned above. In addition to those, he strongly believes in individual liberty, personal responsibility, limited government, federalism, traditional American values, the rule of law and is a strong proponent of the Second Amendment — all concepts established during the birth of our country and documented in our Constitution.

Again, try to find any candidate who has laid out their plans to “fix” this country. You will find they all speak in vague and abstract terms on their plans.

For those who have heard Fred Thompson speak, you will usually hear him say that the Fred Thompson you see today is the same Fred Thompson you saw yesterday and is the same Fred Thompson you will see tomorrow. He stands by his principles and values and doesn’t shift his positions based on polls or public opinion; in other words, he doesn’t say what the voters want to hear just to get elected, but remains steadfast on his views and convictions.

During his time in the Senate he focused on three areas: to lower taxes, strengthen national security and expose waste in the federal government. Fred Thompson has foreign policy experience, having served as member of the Senate Foreign Relations and Senate Intelligence committees.

As chairman of the Senate Governmental Affairs Committee, he opened the investigation in 1997 on the Chinese government’s attempt to influence American policies and elections, and this investigation identified connections with the Clinton administration (documented in the committee’s report).

As a member of the Finance Committee, he worked tirelessly to enact three major tax-cut bills. Fred Thompson remains steadfast and even though a person may not agree with all his views and he understands some may disagree with him, you can count on him to be consistent and unwavering.

Don’t be fooled by his laid back approach and what critics call his “laziness.” As a former assistant U.S. attorney, he earned a reputation as a tough prosecutor and he possesses the toughness this country needs in order to tackle today’s and tomorrow’s issues.

I ask that you take a hard look at what this country needs, then take a hard look at all the other candidates’ views, policies, their records and their track record on consistency. Fred Thompson possesses integrity, loyalty, commitment, energy and decisiveness, all traits of an effective leader, and will emerge as the best person to take this country boldly forward.

“Stop Huck in Iowa!”

And give your votes to Duncan Hunter.

Hunter is a social conservative AND conservative on everything else.

There is no stronger conservative, including the social issues, than Duncan Hunter.

As a foreigner the only ones in the whole race that I could understand and see as good for bot America and us here in the rest of the West are Rudy and Fred. And Fred more so as he is both a fiscal conservative, law & order conservative and although most of my countrymen wouldn´t understand it, it is a good thing he is also a social conservative.

And the main thing is, he will make the US and thus us who support good strong.

Huckabee on the other hand will lead the US down the path of Europe, and I can say that because listening to him speak (although with a good voice that sometimes when you are not paying too close attention to what he says, except maybe in theological issues, makes you feel at ease) reminds me of all the Christian Democratic politicians in the various European countries that behaved just like the socialists/social democrats that wanted to do their good deeds (like Hillary´s gifts in the new Ad) through the government. Thus they undermined the very moral foundation of their faith and thus created the post-christian situation in Europe.

He is also a protectionist. Protectionism will only make the US and it´s allies weaker.

I forgot that Fred is, unlike Huck a free trader wich is a good thing in my books, although I understand that in national security issues some things should be excempted. But such issues should not be used as an excuse for Protectionism like Hunter does. Or for supporting US farmers as the energy independence rethoric does (and sadly Fred has jumped on board that wagon, but it´s seems to be the only politically viable thing given the electoral strenght of the rural America).

Merry Christmas all!!

On the other hand, the Huckster as a nominee would give us a chance to try that third party conservative candidate we've all been wanting to find. We just need to find him, and, since Huck would lose anyway, there would be no harm in voting our hearts in this instance.

Let's hope it never gets to that, and that we get Thompson, or, in our dreams, Hunter. Those are the only two that have a chance of defeating the MSM/Socialist alliance.
