NBC says some find bookcase and Christmas lights offensive

Candidate wishing voters Merry Christmas upsets some folks

The latest effort to spread the idea that religion has no place in the public square comes as a response to a TV spot produced by presidential candidate Mike Huckabee.

I urge you to watch the two video clips I have placed in this e-mail. First, is the ad by former Governor Huckabee wishing people a Merry Christmas. Click here to watch the 30-second ad.

Next, is a clip from the Today Show (Dec. 18), hosted by Meredith Vieira, on which Governor Huckabee was a guest. Vieira opens the interview talking about how some say the ad is sending an overt religious appeal to voters.

Some have become so openly hostile to the Christian faith that they are upset when a candidate simply wishes viewers Merry Christmas and mentions that --after all-- Christmas is the day Christians celebrate the birth of Christ.

The governor is accused of putting a cross in the background of his ad. The 'cross' they find offensive is nothing more than a bookcase. The critics say also that three lights stand for the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit! What is disappointing is that the media grabs such a concoction and makes big news out of this ad.

To me, these accusations are utterly silly, and biased. Watch the clip from the Today Show. There are those who feel that nothing religious, especially wishing people Merry Christmas, should be made by anyone seeking public office. That is the attitude of those who want to drive religion from the public square.

Take Action-Vote in Our Poll Please forward this to your family and friends

Sincerely,

Don

I carry a copy of the Constitution in my smartphone. I am also (late in life) studying to become a paralegal. Try as I might, I can find no right not to be offended in the Constitution. Though you’d never know it based on the comments from the ‘yutes’ in my classes.

Coleus, I disagree with the article. The ad would have been fine, even great, if not for the fact that it was run by a candidate for President using religion as a political tool.

Well if 80% in this country celebrate Xmas and if a politician makes an ad to say merry christams, then why shouldnt there be a cross and a tree and whatever else?

Should a candidate for office risk offending the majority of voters (Christians) by pointedly ignoring the birth of Jesus Christ just because some POS is arrogant enough to think that he/she should do so? If thwe candidate does that, you can bet you bippy that here is one Christian who WILL NOT vote for him for tht very reason -- I don't like cowards.

-—“Sometimes in the middle of Christmas, Jesus is the one person who’s tough to find. You can find Santa at every mall. You can find discount in every store,” Huckabee said at the 25,000-stong Cornerstone Church in San Antonio on Sunday, according to Fox News.-—

When you’re walking done the street, who’s walking with you?

Jesus!

In the middle of Times Square, who are you going to meet?

Jesus!

When you’re jumping up and down, who’s jumping with you?

Jesus!

Huckabee keeps trying to make this an argument over religion, when really it is an argument over him being a sleazy and manipulative fraud in the first place, and then lying about it in the second place.

But I have absolutely no problem with him wishing people a Merry Christmas and reminding us that Christ is the Reason for the Season, as they say. Nobody has a problem with that, as far as I can tell.

Huckabee is selling his religion for political gain, and you have to be a complete fool to believe the cross was unintentional. The funny thing is, I don’t get what would have been wrong with it. He spoke about Christ. Why not just admit there’s a cross?

Pick one answer. Can't have both. Either it's just a bookshelf, aw shucks, what cross? Or else it's intentional and he's just using it to get publicity. Which one is it?

Regardless, they always find a way to get kooky when Christ and the Cross are found in a CHRISTmas message.

Let ‘em be offended. So be it. I may not agree with all of Huckabee’s views but them all getting kooky over the bookshelf is ridiculous.

It’s a conspiracy!!!

Gosh, I have a different take on the Meredith.
If some asked me "Name a female that is most likely to be an
actual Stepford Wife",
Vieira would be my choice. Too cool, too calm, too slick and
always perfect hair arrangement.
She might as well be some sort of droid.

For the word of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.

For it is written,“I WILL DESTROY THE WISDOM OF THE WISE, AND THE CLEVERNESS OF THE CLEVER I WILL SET ASIDE.”

Where is the wise man? Where is the scribe? Where is the debater of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world?

For since in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom did not come to know God, God was well-pleased through the foolishness of the message preached to save those who believe.

For indeed Jews ask for signs and Greeks search for wisdom; but we preach Christ crucified, to Jews a stumbling block and to Gentiles foolishness... I Cor. 1:18-23 (NASB)

This kept running through my head while reading the comments.

Huckabee has surged because he won a couple of debates and he’s got evangelical support. If a quick rise can happen to the liberal pro-life evangelical Huckster, it can happen to the conservative pro-life evangelical Hunter.

According to Intrade, the winner of the December 12th GOP debate was... Duncan Hunter.

Funny, when I read the comments of folks who seem to want to elect this guy president because he is a Baptist Minister, something about "My kingdom is not of this world" runs through my head.

He is pandering to believers.
