Matthews: 'Conservative Gut But Liberal Beliefs Because I've Thought Things Through'
NewsBusters ^ | Mark Finkelstein

Any man who is under 30 and is not a liberal has no heart; and any man who is over 30 and not a conservative has no brains. - Winston Churchill

I guess we know what old Winston would think of Chris Matthews, then. Appearing on Morning Joe today, the Hardball host turned the Churchillian maxim upside down, claiming his gut leans right but his head pulls him left.

Given that Matthews is an idiot who panders for liberals -— he has no brain and no heart, so Churchill’s maxim still stands.

MATTHEWS: I'm sort of a conservative; I have a conservative gut, and yet I have this liberal belief because I've thought things through, like marriage and things like that, abortion rights. I think 'em through and I come to these liberal conclusions on a lot of things.

Chrissy, that's not thinking, it's gas.

His head tells him that if he wants to keep his job at MSNBC he better tow the commie line. His gut tells him everything he says is bull.

It is always better to trust you gut on matters other than engineering.

He may think he’s thought things through and what he cites are social issues but he clearly has not thought through economics or there’s no way he’d be a liberal.

Kind of sad that anyone cares what Chris Mathews says or thinks. His show was briefly entertaining a lot of years ago.

I think 'em through

There is no way that if anybody actually thinks things through, in the political sense, that they'd continue being liberal. But, Chrissy is committed to his party and to his employers and to his show, and could not make a move towards admitting any conservative thinking.

The only thing Christine has thought through is that the Clintons will wax him if he doesn’t toe their line.

They explained that to him some time ago.

“....if he wants to keep his job at MSNBC ..”

I’ve always thought it more ‘if he wants to keep his wife.’ His beloved ‘Queen Kathleen’ is far more lib than Chrissy ever thought to be. And he had better believe in a ‘woman’s right to choose.’ Or else.

The original Quote:
A man who is not a liberal at sixteen has no heart; a man who is not a conservative at sixty has no head. -Benjamin Disraeli

Benjamin Disraeli, 1st Earl of Beaconsfield, KG, PC, FRS (born Benjamin D’Israeli; 21 December 1804–19 April 1881) was a British Conservative statesman and literary figure. He served in government for three decades, twice as Prime Minister—the first and thus far only person of Jewish parentage to do so (although Disraeli was baptised in the Anglican Church at 13). Disraeli’s most lasting achievement was the creation of the modern Conservative Party after the Corn Laws schism of 1846.

“Any man who is under 30 and is not a liberal has no heart; and any man who is over 30 and not a conservative has no brains. - Winston Churchill”

Horse$hit, Winny.

I despise that quote, and doubt that it is truly taken from Churchill. In his day, the true meaning of “liberal” was still being used: “liberal” actually meant what we today call conservatism..

In any case, true rock-ribbed conservatism at is very foundation, displays infinitely more “heart” than liberalism or its wimpy cousin, “compassionate conservatism”.

This is interesting...found it at ask Google. Source links included. It appears that this sentiment has a French pedigree.

“Any man who is under 30, and is not a liberal, has no heart; and any man who is over 30, and is not a conservative, has no brains."

“While the sentiment is certainly astute and wise, the saying did not originate with Churchill. In fact, that wording is a variation of, "The man who is not a socialist at twenty has no heart, but if he is still a socialist at forty he has no head”, which belongs to the former French Prime Minister Aristide Briand, who was himself a recovered socialist.

Briand, however, appears to have cribbed the saying from another French statesman, Francois Guizot (1787–1874), who originally said, “Not to be a republican at twenty is proof of want of heart; to be one at thirty is proof of want of head.”

www.evangelicaloutpost.com/archives/000700.html

"If a man is not a socialist in his youth, he has no heart. If he is not a conservative by the time he is 30 he has no head" -- Georges Clemenceau, Former French Prime Minister and one-time radical. (There are many versions of this saying and many attributions of it but the original utterance seems to have been by mid-nineteenth century French historian and politician Francois Guizot, who said: "Not to be a republican at 20 is proof of want of heart; to be one at 30 is proof of want of head". He was referring to the controversy over whether France should be a republic or a monarchy. “

Poor man, most of his brain has died. Only the parts used by monkeys to play with their poo, dogs to eat their vomit, criminals to steal, and Marxists to endorse socialism remain. His conservative ‘gut’ is probably the bacteria (of superior intelligence) in his digestive tract mounting a revolt against their zombified host.

The original Quote: A man who is not a liberal at sixteen has no heart; a man who is not a conservative at sixty has no head. -Benjamin Disraeli

Benjamin Disraeli, 1st Earl of Beaconsfield, KG, PC, FRS (born Benjamin D’Israeli; 21 December 1804–19 April 1881) was a British Conservative statesman and literary figure.

From the preface Hayek wrote for the 1956 edition of The Road to Serfdom:
The fact that this book was originally written with only the British public in mind does not appear to have seriously affected its intelligibility for the American reader. But there is one point of phraseology which I ought to explain here to forestall any misunderstanding. I use throughout the term "liberal" in the original nineteenth-century sense in which it is still current in Britain. In current American usage it often means very nearly the opposite of this. It has been part of the camouflage of leftist movements in this country, helped by the muddleheadedness of many who really believe in liberty, that "liberal" has come to mean the advocacy of almost every kind of government control. I am still puzzled why those in the United States who truly believe in liberty should not only have allowed the left to appropriate this almost indispensable term but should even have assisted by beginning to use it themselves as a term of opprobrium. This seems to be particularly regrettable because of the consequent tendency of many true liberals to describe themselves as conservatives.
In that context the Disraeli quote takes on an entirely different different meaning.
