I don't really care if people change their position in the right direction and seem sincerely committed to acting upon their "conversion," but it's interesting how only Romney's position changes get any media attention.
Romney’s “actual” record is Massachusetts is sprinkled with conservatism but on a whole is liberal, as any of the 88.4% of Freepers who have rejected the liberal former governor of Massachusetts can tell you. I’d say you are out of step with FR members. Either 88.4% of us are not conservatives or you aren’t.
Too many wonderful conservatives have come out in support of Mitt. Eventually you guys need to look in the mirror instead of pointing fingers at others.

Passionate defender of abortion on demand and donor to Planned Parenthood, endorsed in return by the Majority for Choice PAC.
Passionate advocate of the homosexual agenda, endorsed twice in return by the homosexual Log Cabin Republicans.
Member of the board of Marriott, where for ten years he personally profited in part from the corp’s sale of an estimated quarter-billion dollars’ worth of X-rated films during that time.
Still to this day opposes the Boy Scouts policy protecting 12 year olds from exposure to teens or adults openly involved in homosexual behavior.
Just last week endorsed state-level “gay rights” laws.
Still supports various gun control laws such as the Assault Weapons Ban and the Brady Bill.
Voted for liberal Democrat Paul Tsongas in the 1992 presidential primary, then dissed Ronald Reagan and Jesse Helms, insisting he wasn’t even a Republican during the Reagan administration.
(1): Romney comes from a heritage that is primarily pro-life. = He says flipped from a Mormon pro-life perspective when he sided with his mom when she ran as a pro-abortion senator in 1970.
(2): But then we learn he’s supposedly been “pro-life” all along: “’He’s been a pro-life Mormon faking it as a pro-choice friendly,’” Romney adviser Michael Murphy told the conservative National Review last year>, says the Concord Monitor in a previous article to the one that’s being posted. (4): Fast forward to 2001, when Romney needs to reassure Utah Mormons that...he’s not really “pro-choice,” after all: “I do not wish to be labeled pro-choice.” (Mitt Romney, Letter to the Editor, The Salt Lake Tribune, 7/12/01) = So he doesn’t want to be known as a “flop” (so what is he?)
(5): But by 2002, guess what? He was pro-abortion again! “I respect and will protect a woman’s right to choose. This choice is a deeply personal one … Women should be free to choose based on their own beliefs, not mine and not the government’s.” (Stephanie Ebbert, “Clarity Sought On Romney’s Abortion Stance,” The Boston Globe, 7/3/05) = Ah, back securely in the “flop” saddle again?
(6): In November of ‘04, he & his wife had simultaneous pro-life “conversions” where he links it to stem cell research = (So the pro-abortion-but-no-pro-choice-label-please-is-now-a-pro-life-convert? )
(7): On May 27 ‘05, he affirms his commitment to being “pro-choice” at a press conference. (”I am absolutely committed to my promise to maintain the status quo with regards to laws relating to abortion and choice.”) = OK, this is at least a flop from November ‘04!
(8): What about his gubernatorial record 2003-2006? Mitt NOW says his actions were ALL pro-life. So I assume somewhere in 2005 or so were so pro-life decisions. (”As governor, I’ve had several pieces of legislation reach my desk, which would have expanded abortion rights in Massachusetts. Each of those I vetoed. Every action I’ve taken as the governor that relates to the sanctity of human life, I have stood on the side of life.”) = So, then THESE ACTIONS were not only a reversal of his 2002 commitment, but his May 27, 2005 press conference commitment. So “flipping” is beginning to be routine
(9): April 12, 2006—Mitt signs his “Commonwealth Care” into existence, thereby expanding abortion access for poor women. (Wait a minute, I thought he told us post-’06 that ALL of his actions were “pro-life?”). Also, not only this, but as governor, Romney could exercise veto power to portions of Commonwealth Care. Did Romney exercise this power? (Yes, he vetoed Sections 5, 27, 29, 47, 112, 113, 134 & 137). What prominent section dealing with Planned Parenthood as part of the “payment policy advisory board” did Romney choose NOT to veto? (Section 3) That section mandates that one member of MassHealth Payment Policy Board must be appointed by Planned Parenthood League of MA. (See chapter 58 of the Acts of 2006, section 3 for details).
(10): On January 29, 2007 during a visit to South Carolina, Romney stated: “Over the last multiple years, as you know, I have been effectively pro-choice.” (Bruce Smith, “Romney Campaigns in SC with Sen. DeMint,” The Associated Press, 1/29/07) = OK how could “every action I’ve taken as the governor that relates to the sanctity of human life...” AND this statement BOTH be true?
(11): Another South Carolina campaign stop has Romney uttering that “I was always for life”: “I am firmly pro-life… I was always for life.” (Jim Davenport, “Romney Affirms Opposition to Abortion,” The Associated Press, 2/9/2007) = Oh, of course as the above shows, he’s always been pro-life!
(12) “ I never said I was pro-choice, but my position was effectively pro-choice.” Source: 2007 GOP Iowa Straw Poll debate 8/5/2007 = OK...looking at the 1994 & 2002 campaigns, how could he say he “never said” he was “pro-choice?”
(13): Then comes his 8/12/07 interview with Chris Wallace of Fox: “I never called myself pro-choice. I never allowed myself to use the word pro-choice because I didn’t FEEL I was pro-choice. I would protect the law, I said, as it was, but I wasn’t pro-choice, and so...” = That whatever he was from 1970 when his mom ran as a pro-abortion senator & he sided with her, to 5/27/05, w/whatever interruption he had due to a pro-life altar call in Nov of ‘04, whatever that was...well, he assures us it wasn’t a pro-abortion inlook or outlook ‘cause he didn’t feel “pro-choice...” = So does that make him a life-long pro-lifer?

* The 2002 Olympics - run by Mitt Romney - was the only Olympics that restricted the Boy Scouts from participating. According to news reports, this was apparently because of pressure from homosexual activists. (But also, according to reports, homosexual groups participated fairly prominently.) Romney would not respond to reporters’ questions about that action.
The largest Boy Scout council in the country responded to the call for volunteers issued by the Salt Lake Olympic Organizing Committee, but the welcome mat was rolled up and the door slammed in its face. Olympic spokesmen for the 2002 winter games say the exclusion has nothing to do with recent protests by gay activists. While the organizing committee for the Olympic event is prominently displaying a call for local volunteers, they have explicitly let it be known that the Boy Scouts need not apply. “For us not to be involved is discouraging, considering the Atlanta games. The Scouting council there was extremely involved,” said Kay Godfrey, professional Scout executive for the Great Salt Lake Council of Boy Scouts.

He nominated Stephen Abany to a District Court. * Despite his rhetoric about judicial activism, Romney announced that he won’t fill all the remaining vacancies during his term - but instead leave them for his liberal Democrat successor!
Governor Mitt Romney pledged yesterday not to make a flurry of lame-duck judicial appointments in the final days of his administration . . . David Yas, editor of Lawyers Weekly, said Romney is “bucking tradition” by resisting the urge to fill all remaining judgeships. “It is a tradition for governors to use that power to appoint judges aggressively in the waning moments of their administration,” Yas said. He added that Romney has been criticized for failing to make judicial appointments. “The legal community has consistently criticized him for not filling open seats quickly enough and being a little too painstaking in the process and being dismissive of the input of the Judicial Nominating Commission,” Yas said.

Romney’s Commission on Gay and Lesbian Youth used huge taxpayer funding to promote homosexuality in the public schools
* During most of Romney’s term in office, there existed an agency called the Governor’s Commission on Gay and Lesbian Youth. It was established before Romney came to power but it existed throughout his tenure. Even though he had legal control over this entity and the Commissioners served at his pleasure, he never dissolved the Commission, nor attempted to dictate who its members were, nor even restricted how it used its funding. Romney could have appointed pro-family people or representatives from ex-homosexual groups to serve on this Commission, but he never did.
* The Governor’s Commission was perhaps the largest government-sanctioned promoter of the homosexual agenda to children in the United States. This entity spent millions of state tax dollars promoting the gay-lesbian-bisexual-transgender (GLBT) radicalism in Massachusetts schools by inundating them with GLBT speakers, presentations, films, books, parades, dances, posters, handouts, and help establishing GLBT clubs on campus. These events provided a model for homosexual activists around the country.

The Legislature ultimately funded the commission at $250,000 for FY05, so Romney’s proposal for next year amounts to level funding, and the proposal is still a far cry from $1.6 million the commission received in the mid-’90s before the state budget crisis. Yet as commission co-chair Kathleen Henry said, Romney could just as easily have dissolved the program. “We serve completely at the will of the governor,” said Henry.

However, since there are not enough Republicans to sustain vetoes, a veto is largely a charade, and the homosexual lobby was never seriously concerned when it happened. And Romney never put any effort into sustaining the vetoes. This enabled Romney to appear “pro-family,” while the homosexuals still got their funding.
* When Romney vetoed money for his Governor’s Commission, here’s what he told the Boston Globe his reasons were (still pandering to the homosexual activists):
Romney said his vetoes were motivated by fiscal prudence, not opposition to the programs or presidential politics. Even with his vetoes, the state would spend more than $1 million on teen pregnancy prevention and $250,000 on the programs for gay and lesbian youth. . . [Romney said,] ‘’The work that they’re doing to prevent suicide and prevent violence is important work, and we support the work which they’re doing . . . Before Romney was elected, one such session was taped by pro-family activists at which presenters described to children how to engage in a highly dangerous homosexual activity called “fisting” which violated both health and obscenity codes. * Romney’s DOE has failed to properly enforce the state’s Parental Notification Act, the parents’ right to opt their children out of sex ed curricula, when school systems have claimed that the law’s “human sexuality issues” phrase does not apply to homosexuality or transgender subject matter. This has caused enormous stresses for parents trying to uphold their own values, and has led to incidents such as in Lexington, where parent David Parker was arrested and spent a night in jail over the school’s refusal to obey the notification law regarding his 6-year-old son in kindergarten. As there was no redress within the DOE, Parker ultimately initiated an expensive federal Civil Rights lawsuit which is still in process.

Romney’s Department of Public Health (DPH) cooperates with the homosexual activist movement
* Romney’s Department of Public Health contributed to the The Little Black Book: Queer in the 21st Century, a shocking publication apparently in violation of obscenity codes. Distributed to middle-school and high-school students at a GLSEN conference at Brookline High School, it discussed highly dangerous homosexual practices such as fisting and what homosexuals call “water sports.” To be more specific, here’s one quote: “There is little risk of STD infection and no risk of HIV infection from playing with pee.” Massachusetts physician John Diggs commented that this book is “alarming, disheartening, and medically unethical.” It is clear that one of the major themes of Romney’s DPH (including the outreach programs it supports for homosexual adults) is how to have homosexual sex “safely,” a philosophy that in reality endangers the health of its own citizens.

* Romney’s Director of the HIV/AIDS Bureau in the DPH, Kevin Cranston, is a long-time gay activist with no known medical training and was a co-founder of BAGLY (see above). * Despite his rhetoric against judicial activism, Romney refused to support the “Bill of Address” resolution to remove the judges. (Similar to impeachment, this is a procedure whereby a judge is removed for abusing his office. Interestingly, it was sponsored by conservative Democrats!) Romney would not support this effort even though it was obvious by the wording of the ruling that the judges had displayed their personal biases - and ignored facts - to rule in favor of homosexual marriages. But actions speak louder than words.
And when it counted, Romney governed conservatively, and now he maintains the most conservative GOP platform of all the top-tier.
Romney flatly rejected the Z visa amnesty provision (which wasn't part of the bill when he made the statements you are quoting). If Tom Tancredo is confident in his ability to do the right thing on the border -- so am I.

I suspect that she read the first few lines, realized she couldn’t refute it and gave up. You crushed her, and the bottom line, he’s the best looking and she’s going to vote for him anyway! Don’t confuse anybody with the facts.
You are exactly right. Romney is one of two candidates that have developed a cult-like following where his supporters are enamored with the idea of the candidate regardless of the ideas of the candidate (read that his record). They will remain in a state of denial regardless of the robust, documented and irrefutable evidence against the candidate because, dammit, they want him to be president no matter what.
