Bhutto and the Left
ExurbanLeague.com ^ | Dec. 27, 2008 | Exurban Jon

When Benazir Bhutto announced her return to Pakistan, Al Qaeda and their Islamic allies repeatedly promised to kill her. Shortly after her arrival, the terrorists wrapped a baby in explosives and tried to hand it to her. They killed many, but failed in their objective.

More recently, they strapped bombs to a 15-year-old boy, but that too failed. But today they gunned her down and for no apparent reason other than nihilism, they set off a bomb to kill many more in the crowd.

But despite the terrorists many warnings and attempts, many on the Left have decided (shock of shocks) to blame Bush for the assassination. How very brave.

Frankly, since Bhutto spent her life railing against Islamism, I'm rather surprised they are even feigning respect for her. If she had been an American, they would have demonized her as a neocon.

   *   *   *   *   *   *

As I was reading The Death of the Grown-up last week, I began thinking about the root cause of the Left's "blame America first" reflex. I'm beginning to think that their anti-Western sentiment is primarily a childlike defense mechanism. Just look at today's news from Pakistan as an example.

That nation is a complicated place, with an endless array of social, political and religious forces vying for disparate goals. Bhutto herself was a complex person. Sure, she was pro-Western, well-educated and seemingly moderate, but she also engaged in severe corruption and the common thuggery of Pakistani politics. Her endless list of enemies provided a huge suspect pool and what happens next in Pakistan is impossible to determine.

This complexity provides uncertainty. And uncertainty breeds fear. Add in Pakistan's nukes and the fear can quickly turn to panic. So, some of our leftists make like a child and simplify the equation: "Well I know that the assassination is evil. And Bush is evil. Therefore, Bush is responsible. QED." The uncertainty goes away and they can get back to their nap.

Moving to a broader issue, many in the West often feel powerless in the battle with irrational, medieval and violent Islamofascism. "We've tried reason, negotiation and empathy, yet they still seek our destruction!" So how does the Left remove this fearful impotence? Well, they can change their own government through democratic politics. Like a child trying to please an alcoholic parent, the Left will just try to be better "world citizens" to make the Muslim world like them.

"Sure, there is a problem in the world, but it's our fault and we can change that." The uncertainty and powerlessness that cause fear are now gone. Better yet, criticizing Western institutions and leaders is utterly safe. You can mock Bush all you want and you won't have suicide bombers at your front door.

Who was president when the bombers struck the WTC the first time?
Who was president when the suicide bombers rammed their rubber boat into the US Cole?

Who was president when the Khobar towers were bombed and our embassies bombed?

Who was president when the dead bodies of our underarmed and unsupported troops were dragged through the streets of Mogadishu?

Bush? Bush?? Bush???

Actually, the last line is false. If you mock the only leaders strong enough to stand up to the terrorists, long enough, then you will be left alone with the terrorists, who will happily kill you.

I for one would not lift a finger to save any leftist in America, from anyone or anything.

This is a bunch of tripe.

"Complicated place" doesn't make this kind of barbarism right. It doesn't make it "more complicated" because these idiots can kill one another with bombs either.

What happens next isn't going to take a genius to figure out, see or even understand.

Excellent article and so true.

Until those on the left CHOOSE to understand that America is the last real bastion of freedom and must be protected at all cost then nothing will ever change.

To allow those who want to destroy us run with free reign does not make sense.

It’s time to go back to basics and left leaning kook citizens who can not buy into that need to be put back into their places.

“I for one would not lift a finger to save any leftist in America, from anyone or anything.”

I have told this to a few rabid liberals with “Impeach Bush” signs on their vehicles.

My comment is, “You had better be damn careful what you wish for. None of us will protect you if the Islamofascist come for you!”

...”None of us will protect you if the Islamofascist come for you.”...

Actually, GD, it should read “when” the islamofascists come for you, if Americans elect a democrat party President in 2008. In my view, there is a real chance for a new Open Season on Americans worldwide, likely within CONUS, perpetrated by emboldened muslims. That sentiment should be shouted from the rooftops in America, especially to the likes of Hillary Clinton, Nancy Pelosi, and the rest of the anti-America leftists that comprise the democrat party. They will be the first to be put into burkhas and barefoot, if they don’t immediately lose their heads.

You and I understand that.

However, the mentally ill lefty’s don’t understand the true nature of the Serial Killing Islamofascists.

Years ago when Oregon passed the right to carry law, we had a younger relative living in the Portland area. A lot of his rabid neighbors had all types of signs up demanding that this law be repealed.

He and his room mates put up NRA signs and other signs telling would be robbers, their home was not the place to rob. After a few liberal homes with the anti gun signs were broken into, the liberal signs disappeared.

One of my neighbors has this sign (in English and Spanish) on the fence all four sides of his property. “If you can read this, you are in range.” Works for me.

That may be better than my younger son’s, “Don’t worry about the dog, beware of the owner” it showed a few weapons.

Shortly after the Oregon Carry Law was passed along with a two strikes bill, the attacks on innocents dropped.

John Lott’s book and thesis, “More guns, Less Crime!” works.

I have all ways felt the safest pickup/suvs from the bad guys, are the ones with a Marine Sticker, NRA Sticker, A California Waterfowl sticker and any other hunting sticker.

“I for one would not lift a finger to save any leftist in America, from anyone or anything.”

Ditto for me. The left is just as much an enemy as the islamofascists. They are the terrorists sympathizers and serve the purpose to undermine those fighting in the trenches. I see no difference between the terrorists and their allies on the left.

I see plenty of differences between the terrorists and the western left. But I also understand that the root cause of terrorism is moral cowardice in the modern west, and I know which party is responsible for that cowardice.

Let's just say that her father more than deserved the noose.

Didn't want to see Benazir go THIS way, but it only adversely affects the world order by depriving a large faction of the Pakistani population of its figurehead. The power vacuum that has resulted is dangerous.

"Only"? On the contrary, she was a rational director of that large portion of the Pakistani population, and made it a natural ally of the US. It is not at all obvious it can remain so without her - or even remain united.

BS. She was not as beloved a figure as you make her out to be.

The Left will deal with Islam thusly:
Appeasement first, then surrender and submission.

This is why ANY Republican presidential candidate (with the possible exception of Ron Paul) will be better than ANY Democratic candidate as president in 2009.

It is also why those who say they will sit out the election and refuse to support the Republican candidate in '08 because _their_ candidate didn't make the grade are but steps away from becoming traitors to the West, and fellow travelers to the appeasing Democrats.

Am I the only one to think as much?
