Here is a link to a photo showing Benazir Bhutto moments before she was shot. (Videos on CNN show that her Toyota Land Cruiser had an armored interior. Had she remained fully within that armored protection, she likely would still be alive.) Here's what actually happened:
After the large political rally, she is shown getting into the SUV with several other people. The SUV and a black vehicle its left then drive about 50 yards, where a crowd surrounded her vehicle. She decided to stand up through the sunroof to greet the crowd. However, one or more assassins were in that crowd that stopped her vehicle as it was driving away from the rally. That's when she was shot.
This is a Getty Images photo, so I can only post a link: Photo of Bhutto just before her assassination
There are four pages of other Getty Images available of the assassination events. Here's a link: Link to Getty Images assassination photos. Warning: Some of the photos are very graphic.
Seems like a pretty foolish thing to do, but such is the nature of history.
Why is the standard Islamic reaction to anything bad always to riot, set things on fire, or blow them up? “Al-Qaeda killed Bhutto! Quick, Ahmed, let us go burn a city bus!” Huh?
I blame it on the religious demonic Islamic teachings.
Emotional people react without thinking. It cuts across class, religious, political, and economic lines.
‘Why is the standard Islamic reaction to anything bad always to riot, set things on fire, or blow them up? Al-Qaeda killed Bhutto! Quick, Ahmed, let us go burn a city bus! Huh?’
That type of reaction is associated with lower levels of intelligence.
As we’ve seen here on more than one occasion....
Agreed. It was foolish.
What I find most interesting, though, is that she had just left a huge rally. The assassin(s) didn't try to get her there. Instead, as her vehicle was driving away, it was stopped by a crowd. The assassin(s) was in that crowd. The logical conclusion is that the assassination plot was to stop the vehicle as it was driving away. My next question is this: was there more than one way for her vehicle to leave the rally location. If the answer is yes, then how did the assassin(s) know the route she was scheduled to take?
They probably had assassins along all the routes.
Together with shadowy figures on the grassy knoll.
If you go a few pages into the Getty Bhutto photos, you’ll find a couple of shots of Hillary! campaigning — apparently so you don’t miss the point that she’s a brave woman, too.
I wonder if the media will ever tire of being used as cheap Clinton shills.
You asked — “If the answer is yes, then how did the assassin(s) know the route she was scheduled to take?”
It could be much simpler than you are making it. If this was planned out, then one would simply have several bombers at each place that it was possible to leave. Then one of them would have the opportunity. You would never know that the others were there, because they would leave and not blow themselves up, at the success of the one that Bhutto did come across.
It doesn’t have to be a more complex operation than just that....
Same thing happens in our inner cities. It is connected to being uncivilized.
ISI had her killed. That’s what people in PAK are saying...
You said — “Together with shadowy figures on the grassy knoll.”
Well, I was just looking at a DVD series (produced by a major TV Network) on the Kennedy assassination and the figure[s] on the grassy knoll was backed up by direct witness testimony by people right there, and also a witness seeing one man take a rifle-like weapon from that guy and break it down and carry it off (across the railroad bridge), in a bag.
I would say that there’s no doubt that there was another figure, there, firing the fatal shot and making a clean get-away. There were, at least, three eye-witness accounts to this figure, who was there.
But, this is off the topic of this latest assassination, aside from the fact that things are not always as complex as one may think it has to be (to kill someone).
No more foolish than JFK's decision to forgo the bullet proof bubble top in Dallas, but such is the nature of history...
Perhaps they're imitating Americans that do the same when winning sports championships ;-)
You said — “ISI had her killed. Thats what people in PAK are saying...”
Well, I have no doubt that there are elements in that segment of government that would definitely have Bhutto killed, if they could — but to say that it was government policy or that they were instructed to do so, as part of (even) secret government policy — I think is a wrong assessment.
It’s apparent that the political opposition to Musharaff is going to use this type of thinking to bolster their political aims, whether it’s true or not. They’re already doing that from the news reports that I hear.
However, it’s also clear that al Qaida has an interest in killing Bhutto (and also killing Musharaff, for that matter) — and that group is your most likely candidate, especially since they are claiming responsibility for killing Bhutto.
As did the Serbs, and Princip got the brass ring. The crowds in the streets, and Bhutto's willingness to be overly visible made this all to easy.
Seeing that her father and two brothers were all fatalities of Pak politics, it's almost as if she expected it.
No shortage of suspects when an uppity woman is killed in a muslim country.
So basically, Islamic Rage Boy is a Lakers fan. OK, got it.
Everyone dies. Not everyone stands for something.
Considering the whole purpose of a bulletproof car is to keep from getting shot, it is foolish to circumvent the protection and go out of the way to get exposure.
Every time I see pictures of these people - who always seem to be burning something - I always wonder what the Hell they all have against razors.
As in shaving more than once a week.
They all look like inner city Philadelphia bums to me, without the booze.
An Al Qaida figure has already come forward to take credit.
Wow......I saw those...there seems to be close to ten of them of her. Bush and Karzai I can understand but with the photos of Hillary Getty is showing their bias.
I doubt she considered it the optimal end to what she was trying to accomplish.
“then how did the assassin(s) know the route she was scheduled to take?”
Just like in Dallas, there is one likely route of egress from the city to the next venue. Oswald was positioned by his employment at the very spot most likely to be an assassination spot.
Would one also "simply" have crowds along the route ready and willing to stop her vehicle at any point, thus giving an assassin(s) his opportunity?
Videos on CNN show her getting into the Land Cruiser, which then slowly drives off and make a right turn onto another street. The video ends moments after the vehicle makes that turn.
The vehicle travels roughly another block where it is stopped and the assassination occurs.
The implication, of course, is that the assassin(s) knew the route her vehicle would take after leaving the rally site -- by no means an impossibility.
A video shown frequently this morning on CNN appears to show more than one route of egress. Of course, we'd need a map of the area to know for sure.
However, I realize you are referring to one likely route. In that, you may be right.
You were asking — “Would one also “simply” have crowds along the route ready and willing to stop her vehicle at any point, thus giving an assassin(s) his opportunity?”
With Bhutto being popular, the crowds would be supplied by her own supporters... (unfortunate, but true...).
Nah, he's a Mets' fan.
It had to be a big group that they moved into place...into the heart of a major military garrison city.
Wait, was she shot or blown up????
And to carry the body in the coffin around with a big crowd....
How do they get it so quickly? Does the hospital just give it to anyone?
I hope they at least secured the coffin lid and she doesn't fall out (didn't that happen to the Ayatollah Khomeini?).
I wouldn’t doubt that elements within Mush’s group helped - or at least did nothing to prevent it. That being said, it’s more likely an al Queda plot (they’ve already taken credit) to throw Pak into civil war, create Pakistani front to either replace or augment the Iraqi front, to create a complex nuclear crisis involving both internal Pak control and international tensions involving India & China & US & Russia & Iran.
Yeah, it's like Los Angeles or Detroit, except for the part about stealing the TVs.
I think it is safe to say that there was a conspiracy to have Bhutto eliminated on this day. One way or the other. Too many things happened too perfectly for this to have been a lone nut job with a dynamite/ball bearing vest.
No disrespect to either of you, but that is pure speculation. It may have been the case, but may not have been as well.
As the photo on Getty Images shows, she exposed herself by standing up through the sunroof. According to witnesses, the sequence of events is that she was shot at least twice. Then the bomber blew himself up. We have no other facts other than that the vehicle left the rally location, made a right turn onto another street, travelled roughly a block or less, then was stopped by a crowd in which a shooter/bomber was located.
I thought the same thing. It's probably empty.
To be fair they riot when they have good news too.
That link is merely a Getty Search using the term "Bhutto".
It picked up the Shillary images, as well as Bush and Karzai because the descriptions of each image says "...reacting to Bhutto..." or otherwise has Bhutto in the pix desc.
Sure the news is slanted, but for crying out loud. Getty is not culpable for boosting Hillary on Bhutto's corpse for crying out loud.
Getty has exhibited a liberal bias for a long time.
I truly do not want any mosque’s in America. This shit needs to never be brought into this country. Islam is not a religion of peace and I wish the POTUS and any other talking head would quit stating such. These things are not human, to call them monkeys would be an insult to monkeys. Perhaps they are the missing link. The entire world would benefit if these muslims no longer existed. Sorry for the rant but I am absolutely sick of seeing this crap in the news every day.
"But, you see, Benazir Bhutto stood up to bravely take a symbolic stand, to show that women can rise above the "glass ceiling" which says they can't aspire to the top jobs."--Hillary Clinton /s
