As of Monday, annual checkups for the nearly half a million Massachusetts children on Medicaid will carry a new requirement: Doctors must offer simple questionnaires to detect warning signs of possible mental health problems, from autism in toddlers to depression in teens.
The checklists vary by age but ask questions about children's behavior - whether they are spending more time alone, seeming to have less fun, having trouble sleeping - that are designed to trigger discussion between parents and doctors. The conversations may or may not lead to a referral to a specialist

Good one.
Gotta get them drugged up and dumbed down early.
Next question will be:
“Are there any guns or bibles in your home?”
Here comes that large sibling again....AKA BIG BROTHER!
mom and nanny ping
LOL
And don’t forget do you believe in God and do you recite the Pledge of Allegence with reference to God?
COMBO Ping
Nanny State and MOMs!!!!!!!
GMTA!
Thanks to my slow dial up you pinged me while I was trying to pingyou and the others!!!!
I am a christian, pro-gun pro-life, flag waving patriot, with a very dark and bizzare sense of humor do you think I would pass a mental health screening?
Socialized medicine is headed to one end...The government will decide when to pull the plug.
But will they ever do it on themselves?
The jury is still out, we had a discussion online about you, while you were away.
I just want you to know........I'm pulling for you.
Not a snowballs chance....
Don’t forget that we just can’t have mentally unstable people running around with guns now...
Just another way to disarm the public from an early age on. Either make them felons with made up crimes, or declare them insane.
Unfortunately this simply exposes the truth for what it is. The state owns the children.
Mittcare!
It’s good for you!
Need I remind everyone that just 7 days ago the “Veterans Disarmament Act” passed congress and is headed to the conservative, gun loving presidents office.
And that this bill once signed could/would disarm any vet that may suffer PTSD
From ATF “The new Form 4473 will make it clear, for example, that any person who has been found by a court, board, or other lawful authority to be a danger to self or others is prohibited”
Note the new words “LAWFUL AUTHORITY”, cause they include IDEA school therapists, a Medicare psychologist, or a VA doctor.
These petty minor beaurcrats now have control over your second amendment rights......Thanks George, congress and the NRA, I’ll sleep better tonight
Mental health problems in Massachusetts? Hard to imagine....
First they collate the children and then hand them over to the gay lobby.
If all the children express anxiety about global warming and killing the cuddly polar bears, can we make Gore shut up about it?

The UN Plan for Your Mental Health (UNESCO)
Wouldn’t early screening for autism be a good thing? I have no personal experience with autism, but I understand that the sooner it’s identified & treatment begun, the less the effects of the disorder.
“Time will tell what the unintended consequences from this are. “
May I rephrase your comment to read; “intended” consequences ...?
To the best of your knowledge, have your parents, at anytime, placed “recyclable” items into the
“trash only” container ??
“To the best of your knowledge, have your parents, at anytime, placed recyclable items into the
trash only container ??”
Oh I am terribly sorry kid — I used the term “parents”... oh hey kid please don’t... no don’t report me... here I’ll give you all my organic candy... begging you ...
Here’s comes Big Brother!
When I took my 15-year-old in for a sports physical, he was given a questionnaire to fill out, the first time that’s happened. I took a look at it, and told him he would not be filling it out, and informed the staff as well.
Among the questions, which included whether or not he had friends in gangs, was attracted to a member of the same sex, had suicidal thoughts, drank, used drugs, etc., was this one:
Does anyone in your home own a gun?
“...cause they include IDEA school therapists, a Medicare psychologist...”
Please verify. Thank you.
That’s true from what I’ve heard about the early intervention.
The problem is whether or not the diagnosis is accurate. I have friends whose daughter was diagnosed with autism and they just couldn’t believe it. Her social skills were a little lacking but the parents said that they didn’t believe at all that she was autistic. I didn’t think she was either. She was just more like a geek in training.
I think the problem is likely going to be over-diagnosis and over-medication. Look what’s happened with the whole ADD/ADHD thing and all the kids on Ritalin, who are just normal active kids that need more exercise than anything.
I’m convinced that if my son had gone to public school, he would have been diagnosed as ADD or ADHD yet his behavior was always well managed by enough physical activity. When he was swimming every day and out playing and digging in the dirt, or running around, he was a pleasure to have around. Give him a week of being snowed in and look out. Being stuck at a desk all day not being allowed to move would have been a disaster waiting to happen, not to mention the boredom factor- he could read at 5 and he would have been in classes with kids who needed to learn their ABC’s.
I’m also concerned about the reaction if the parents don’t want to follow the doctor’s advice. They are required by law to report child abuse and if they decide that your not following his advice is abuse, you get reported and social services gets called in.
There are guidelines already in place for parents to follow and check to see if their kids are progressing normally and how often do you hear of parents who sense something is wrong and go to the doctor over and over and just get told they’re being too worried, new parents and all?
I don’t have a problem with the screening being available if the parents want it, but not to make it mandatory. Screening for mental illness and such can be too subjective, not like blood work or eye and hearing tests. There’s just too much opportunity for abuse.
When you consider the standards set by the elected politicians......it is hard to believe.
“Gotta get them drugged up and dumbed down early.”
That was my exact first thought when I read the article.
UN plan for slavery, alright. I see that Donna Shalala is still oozing around.
“Children who refuse to conform may be considered handicapped. According to a Teacher Training Manual from the National Training Institute for Applied Behavioral Science,
“Although they appear to behave appropriately and seem normal by most cultural standards, they may actually be in need of mental health care in order to help them change, adapt, and conform to the planned society in which there will be no conflict of attitudes or beliefs.”
thanks, bfl
...There is already considerable evidence of false diagnoses of preschool children as autistic, and the treatments inflicted on them can be abusive, with incalculable negative effects on their development...
Free health care will generate lots of mental illness (anxiety, depression, etc.) amongst its victims, er, citizens. Sounds like the lawmakers may well have thought this one through.
Do your parents listen to Rush Limbaugh while you are with them in the car?
Just like in the old USSR, which is where the Democrats want to take us.
-isn’t this a clear violation of the right your medical privacy? Good grief.
You both make very good points, and I agree about the ADD/
ADHD diagnoses...I don’t think small boys were meant to be sitting still in a classroom for hours at a time.
My nieces and daughter would sit for hours with a book or coloring book, but my son and nephews never would...
I canceled my plans to visit the U of Miami in 2001 because of her.
You’re right. Evil is at the core of Socialist. They only say they mean well.
Gun Control.
I wish I could find the Freepers who said there was nothing to worry about the mental wellness requirement to own a gun.
This is the most dangerous gun control measure ever used.
And libs would have you believe that there's no difference between boys and girls, it's all what we teach them.
I'm convinced either they never had kids or didn't have one of each.
the unintended consequences
More prescription psychotherapy drugs, lifetime guarantee.
Yay!!! Here come the Social Security “crazy checks”, about to flood Massachusetts!
