Conservative or bust
Let's face it, if you put a partial conservative forward, he's going to lose the general election.
You need someone who supports all of the following conservative principles:
Social conservatism - Pro-life, pro-marriage Fiscal conservatism - Anti-tax, anti-entitlement Patriotic conservatism - Strong on law enforcement and national defense
If the Republican Party nominates a candidate that falls down on any of these three principles somebody is going to run to the right of them on an independent ticket and gut them - setting up a repeat of Clinton in 1992.
That means no Huckabee and no Rudy. Between the two of them they are missing the ENTIRE conservative platform.
McCain and Romney are slightly better choices, but they still have some major failings. You've got to take Romney's word for his conversion to Social conservatism, while McCain is historically inconsistent on the Law Enforcement side of Patriotic conservatism and flip-flops on Fiscal conservatism when he thinks he can buy support on other matters from the likes of Ted Kennedy.
Ron Paul can't carry the banner on Patriotic conservatism. He's too naive and isolationist to affect a worthwhile foreign policy.
That leaves you with Hunter and Thompson, the two candidates the Mainstream Media is terrified of giving any coverage or exposure. They don't want you to believe there are any REAL conservatives in the primary race and make every effort to try and cut the legs out from under these candidates.
Well nuts to the MSM, and nuts to the idea of taking half-portion watered-down RINOs for president.
Fred Thompson is the ONLY candidate conservative across the board. Anybody else will draw a plethora of third-party candidates like Paul, Bloomberg, etc and the GOP has no shot.
The ONLY chance for GOP to win the election next year and beat "Hillbama" is Fred Thompson!
FRED THOMPSON - NATIONAL SECURITY EXPERT (Ill protect the American people and American values, whatever it takes to stop the Islamic-Fascists including water-boarding) - 2ND AMENDMENT ADVOCATE (arming the People to disarm criminals) INCREASE THE MILITARYS STRENGTH AND SIZE (giving those brave men and women a Commander in Chief to be proud of) - SECURE AND SEAL THE BORDERS (dont give sanctuary anywhere to illegals, dont employ illegals, dont rent to illegals, dont extend credit to illegals, dont give illegals rights they dont deserve, report all crimes committed by illegals and deport those illegals who have already committed crimes against America) - LAW AND ORDER (enforcement first and foremost with laws currently on the books) DENY FEDERAL DOLLARS TO SANCTUARY CITIES (enough is enough) CONSERVATIVE JUSTICES FOR SUPREMES (those who will interpret the law, not create rights that do not exist) PRO-LIFE ADVOCATE (nominate superior Constitutional Justices to overturn Roe vs Wade) - SOCIAL SECURITY REFORMER (reform a broken program that cant sustain itself and will bankrupt future generations, with the added benefit of private savings accounts) - DEFEAT ANY DEMOCRAT AND RINO (any fool DemocRATS put up) TAX SIMPLIFICATION (variety of choice for the tax payer) - WONT PUT UP WITH CRAP FROM THE MSM (including stupid questions by moderators and pundits) - WE THE PEOPLE CANDIDATE (We the People asked him to run and he stepped up) - PING!
I agree. That is the way I see it.
So the case for Fred Thompson they’re giving is that he wins by default? I think a better case could be made.
Unfortunately no one has heard it because Fred doesn’t bother to make it either. But I think if it was to be made, it would center around foreign policy experience.
Spot on. Although he rates Romney much too highly. U.S. Army Retired |
I sure hope that Fred does well. He would be a breath of fresh air.
I'll take Hunter.
You are all over the place downgrading Fred.
Like this criticism of Fred speaking to FOX:

He has mentioned it several times, but youre not going to hear from the MSM, which now includes FOX.
But he was speaking to Fox News live on the air today and didn’t take the opportunity to mention his foreign policy or terrorism/proliferation credentials. You cannot blame the MSM or Fox news for that.]
And this about Fred talking to FOX:

Fred was near the top of his game here. He was energized, concise, and on message. If he had been in this form more often, he would be leading, or at least still be competitive. His only flaw was while talking about Pakistans nukes, he failed to mention he advised the State Department on international security and nuclear nonproliferation.]
Both of these were Fred talking to FOX about the Bhutto assassination. In one, he is at the top of his game, the other, he obviously wasn’t on top of his game.
Can’t be consistent. Can’t get the message straight.
Obviously, you have nothing better to do with your time than criticize Fred, which is suspect.
FRED THOMPSON is the best person to lead this country. He is a true conservative and has been his entire life. All one has to do is check his record to see this.
During my time in the Army as an Intelligence Analyst, I served under both Presidents Carter and Reagan (as my commanders in chief). Without argument, President Reagan was the best commander-in-chief a military person could ever have served under. Fred Thompson possesses the same qualities and vision as President Reagan in that he is strong on national defense and sees a dire need to secure our borders and control immigration.
I can think of no better person to lead this country and fix the problems we have. He is the only candidate from either party who has specific and detailed plans on border security and immigration reform; revitalization of Americas armed forces; saving and protecting Social Security; and tax relief and economic growth. These are detailed on his Web site at www.fred08.com . I challenge you to find any other candidate who has laid out specific plans to fix anything.
Fred Thompson has published his first principles, some of which are mentioned above. In addition to those, he strongly believes in individual liberty, personal responsibility, limited government, federalism, traditional American values, the rule of law and is a strong proponent of the Second Amendment all concepts established during the birth of our country and documented in our Constitution.
Again, try to find any candidate who has laid out their plans to fix this country. You will find they all speak in vague and abstract terms on their plans.
For those who have heard Fred Thompson speak, you will usually hear him say that the Fred Thompson you see today is the same Fred Thompson you saw yesterday and is the same Fred Thompson you will see tomorrow. He stands by his principles and values and doesnt shift his positions based on polls or public opinion; in other words, he doesnt say what the voters want to hear just to get elected, but remains steadfast on his views and convictions.
During his time in the Senate he focused on three areas: to lower taxes, strengthen national security and expose waste in the federal government. Fred Thompson has foreign policy experience, having served as member of the Senate Foreign Relations and Senate Intelligence committees.
As chairman of the Senate Governmental Affairs Committee, he opened the investigation in 1997 on the Chinese governments attempt to influence American policies and elections, and this investigation identified connections with the Clinton administration (documented in the committees report).
As a member of the Finance Committee, he worked tirelessly to enact three major tax-cut bills. Fred Thompson remains steadfast and even though a person may not agree with all his views and he understands some may disagree with him, you can count on him to be consistent and unwavering.
Dont be fooled by his laid back approach and what critics call his laziness. As a former assistant U.S. attorney, he earned a reputation as a tough prosecutor and he possesses the toughness this country needs in order to tackle todays and tomorrows issues.
I ask that you take a hard look at what this country needs, then take a hard look at all the other candidates views, policies, their records and their track record on consistency. Fred Thompson possesses integrity, loyalty, commitment, energy and decisiveness, all traits of an effective leader, and will emerge as the best person to take this country boldly forward.

Its Hunter or Thompson. They are the only ones running who have a clue, who can be trusted all the way down the line. The others are disqualified for their weakness on border security, their gullibility on the Global Warming fraud. McCain is forever disqualified for his campaign finance bill that assaults the constitution. Huck for believing its unchristian to secure the border. Paul for blaming the US for muslim militancy.
I was right that Rudy cannot win, and that there was a need for a NOT Rudy, NOT Mitt Candidates. McCain I saw as unwinable in conservative states. That meant it was there for Fred to take and dominate.
The problem is — Huckabee saw the gap, exploited it, and has used his personal appeal to create excitement around his candidacy. He has gone farther than anyone with no name recognition and little money — which is a tribute to his personal appeal and stump capability.
In the end though, he is not a true conservative, and I think the MSM loves him now — because they can’t wait to turn on him in the general election.
Fred is my guy — but with the front loaded primaries — he needs an unexpected good finish early or he will never get traction in the crowded field. If that happens, money and momentum will seal his fate.
If Fred can finish third and parlay some press — he could jump in NH and win in South Carolina. That’s his best, if not only bet. IMHO
Would you like to know why I like Fred other than what you said above? I like him because he is a down home Southerner who isn’t afraid to tell it like it is. And one must admit, that some of the things he says is plain common sense. (A trait I see lacking in the other so called Conservative candidates . . .except Duncan Hunter.)
Where is Fred on American policy for the Balkans?
Did you also notice that none of his posts concern anything of substance?
Just innuendo and extremely biased opinion usually with no factual support posed as facts.
Thank you for pointing that out, also valid. There is so much to notice in these posts.
Go Fred Go. I am tired of hearing about Huckabee. If you think the MSM had fun trying to tell us Bush was too dumb to lead the country. Wait and see what they do if Huckabee gets the nomination. They will have a field day Huckabee may be a nice guy but I want a President the rest of the world will look at very carefully. And think twice before taking any action that our President does not approve of. Fred Thompson is the only man for the job. Today’s killng in Pakistan of Bhutto is proof that in these times of terror around the world we do not need anyone in a dress running the White House. Sorry Hillary and sorry Rudy.

Just contributed to Fred again.
Ummmm, you cite two different posts where I give the exact same criticism but in different contexts, and then claim I am “inconsistent”. I have actually been very consistent on what I think Fred needs to do differently. The first post you quote was specifically regarding Fred’s recurring habit of not citing his foreign policy credentials at opportune times, where I pointed out he once again failed to, the latest missed opportunity being on Fox News. The second post you quote was generally discussing this same appearance on Fox News, where I said he did very well overall - which he did - except for the fact that he missed another prime opportunity to mention his foreign policy credentials. Where exactly is the “suspect” inconsistency?
One of the worst problems afflicting FR is this culture of deranged paranoia on the part of some of the members who believe commies lurk in every corner, and everyone who isn’t a complete sycophant must secretly be one too.
Sometimes, some people have way too many criticisms way too often on way too many threads. Just logic.
I don’t care if you have criticisms, but you don’t have to beat people over the head with them. Less is best.
On a forum where the posters are anonymous, you never know who might be a reporter, or from DU, or a campaign worker....
Do you remember MD4Bush?
On a forum where the posters are anonymous, you never know who might be a reporter, or from DU, or a campaign worker....Oh please! Give me a break.
That's funny, because I post a dozen or so threads a day concerning Fred, and almost all of them are written by reporters. Imagine that!
It was a joke because of the MSM’s avoidance of discussing Fred.
I’ve noticed a trend recently where the media doesn’t even acknowledge him anymore when discussing the GOP race or polls.
