Russia to set up missile shield for Iran

MOSCOW: Russia will set up a massive anti-missile shield in Iran that will virtually guarantee the country against military attacks.

Moscow will supply Tehran with the advanced long-range S-300 surface-to-air missile complexes, informed Russian sources said.

“Several dozen S-300PMU-1 complexes will be delivered to Iran under a contract signed several years ago,” the Interfax news agency quoted a defence industry source as saying on Wednesday. He said deliveries could start as early as next year.

Another Russian defence source told the Kommersant daily that Moscow was planning to sell Iran five batteries of S-300 launchers at a price of $800 million. A typical S-300PMU-1 battery contains 48 missiles on 12 mobile launchers.

Wait, is this technology a Russian anti-missile defense system or an anti-aircraft system? Is it any good or of no concern against our forces?

If we ever engage in an air campaign against Iran, the F-117s and B-2s will start by kicking in the door and these missile complexes will make great target practice.

...antiaircraft. Russia posted a lot of them around Moscow a few months back.

Agreed.

They can’t shoot off missiles off at something they can’t see.

They don’t need the US to be rich off of their energy supply.

The issue here is Russia selling items to Iran which will not in anyway protect Iran against the US if we attack.

If they are actually operational and not useless crap, they may perhaps protect them against Israel on some level.

...my mistake. It was S-400s around Moscow. The S-300s have gone to places like Belarus.

And Russia claims that she can kill missiles and stealth aircraft with them.

But after Iran and its friends have nukes, we probably won’t get to disprove that, IMO. Russia and China are looking for the Islamo-fascist nations to start something, so that Russia and China can use such opportunity to take more ocean route real estate.

Moscow has an excellent missle interception system employing nuclear tipped interceptors.

With handgrenades, horseshoes, and nuke tipped interceptors, close counts.

Meanwhile the Americans are dorking around with x-ray and chemical lasers.

Apparently, Iran has not consulted Syria concerning the effectiveness of the “latest” Russian anti-air systems.

Maybe the Russians did a next generation of tweaks and need a place to see if it works.

at a price of $800 million

Does this all go into Putin's private account, as usual?

Syria might have had the Tor-M1s and some other older models. There was talk/speculation about Syria wanting the S-300s, but I don’t know whether Syria obtained those.

Ever since Putin went to Tehran for those talks with Ahmadjihadman, Russia and Iran have strengthened their alliance big-time, with weapon and uranium sales to Iran from Russia (with love). And now comes the missile defense shield.

Uranium mined in Iran is rich in molybdenum, and element that is extremely difficult to seperate from the uranium and decreases the overall quality of the uranium produced. So it would be much more economical for Iran to purchase uranium than mine their own. And look what they just did....

Yeah, in case the US does anything. They know we're thinking about dropping the bomb, and they're preparing for it. We should've dropped it a long time ago.

Putin's continueous arming & protecting Iranian targets is a direct threat to American and Israeli pilots, and he knows it. Dictator Putin is laying the ground rules for his future war against US, Israel and NATO nations (Europe).
