The Pope has ordered his bishops to set up exorcism squads to tackle the rise of Satanism.
Vatican chiefs are concerned at what they see as an increased interest in the occult.
They have introduced courses for priests to combat what they call the most extreme form of "Godlessness."
Each bishop is to be told to have in his diocese a number of priests trained to fight demonic possession.
The initiative was revealed by 82-year-old Father Gabriele Amorth, the Vatican "exorcistinchief," to the online Catholic news service Petrus.
"Thanks be to God, we have a Pope who has decided to fight the Devil head-on," he said.
"Too many bishops are not taking this seriously and are not delegating their priests in the fight against the Devil. You have to hunt high and low for a properly trained exorcist.
"Thankfully, Benedict XVI believes in the existence and danger of evil - going back to the time he was in charge of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith." The CDF is the oldest Vatican department and was headed by Benedict from 1982, when he was Cardinal Ratzinger, until he became Pope in 2005.

Well God Bless the Pope and the Priests trained in this area. The little I have had to do with this area has highlighted the fact that it takes a very specila and well trained person to venture forth taking ground from Satan and his minions. There should also be prayer warriors who meet to support these Priests in prayer.
Doing this work is like paiting a big bullseye on your back. It takes a very moral and spiritual person to resist the temptations and assaults that can come though the spiritual world
I don’t know if or how exorcisms work, but I suppose using spiritualism to combat a spiritual force might work. One need only look to the middle east to see Satan.
There's the money shot. That's wonderful. I couldn't agree with him more. The more I hear of this pope the more I like him. God really does send us what we need.
Well, that can only mean fundamentalist Islam..
Nice to see the Roman Catholic Church allocate it's vast assets and resources to the WOT..
THE POWER OF CHRIST COMPELS YOU!!!
THE POWER OF CHRIST COMPELS YOU!!!
Personal opinion only, an exorcism and $9.00 will get you a cup of coffee at Starbucks. But go for it if that’s what flops your mop. Better than spending Sunday watching the Chiefs and Jets.
Can I send him my ex-wife’s name?
His proper name now is
Pope Benedict XVI.
(I could tell you what it means but it really isn't appropriate here.)
I just happened to have that one already made when this thread got started, but it's easy to make church signs thanks to ChurchSignGenerator.com.
I know. And I have the greatest respect for His Holiness...but “Ratz” fits better with the “Zero Wing” parody.
Democrats, listen up!
I just found this at Catholic World News:
Vatican, Dec. 28, 2007 (CWNews.com) -
The Vatican has denied a report that Pope Benedict XVI (bio - news) plans a new emphasis on exorcisms.
In an interview with Italy's Petrus web site, which concentrates on Vatican affairs, Father Gabriele Amorth, the official exorcist of the Rome diocese, said that the Holy Father would soon undertake a new campaign to combat demonic possession.
"Thank God," said the Italian priest, "we have a Pope who has decided to confront the devil head-on."
Father Amorth-- who has gained a worldwide reputation as an expert of the subject, and the author of a popular book on exorcism and demonic possession-- told Petrus that a new Vatican document would call for the designation of exorcists in every Catholic diocese around the world. He also said that Pope Benedict would restore the tradition of reciting the prayer to St. Michael the Archangel, composed by Pope Leo XIII, at the end of every Mass.
But Father Federico Lombardi, the director of the Vatican press office, flatly denied the Petrus report. The papal spokesman said: "Pope Benedict XVI has no intention of ordering local bishops to bring in garrisons of exorcists to fight demonic possession."
The topic of exorcism commands considerable public interest in Italy, and Father Amorth has frequently generated attention with his warnings about the unchecked spread of diabolical influence. In a new course on the topic, being offered by the pontifical university Regina Apostolorum in Rome, Father Paolo Scarafoni has warned that Satanic cults are making inroads in Italian society, and cautioned that the influence of the devil is real-- although he has also reported that most suspected cases of demonic possession can be explained by other factors.
yes, but those demonic attacks come to all of us in our daily life. We just may not recognize them and think they are our thoughts sometimes. The fhu.com has a simple be still cd that helps so many people to separate from the evil in our minds and become free.
Kewl. Where do I sign up for training?
Did you hear about the dylexic devil worshipper? Tried to sell his soul to Santa.
Remind me to never look through your dvd collection.
The Pope has to do what he has to do. What can or would they do to him?
THE BED IS ON MY FOOT!!!
THE BED IS ON MY FOOT!!!
THE BED IS ON MY FOOT!!!
wow. the mail. I’d like to see the Pope’s remarks about this.
it’s about freaking time!
You don't need a login or anything to store them over at Image Shack.
Always admired Roy from college days but thanks for the link. I had the cassette but the download will be very useful.
This my friends is the door that opens inner peace. I’m overdue to get back.
Now I hope this prayer about St. Michael is true. I really do as our world needs all the help that prayer can muster.
Besides, I heard Boortz talking about it one day. :\
PUDDY: (pounding the hood) Hey, what are you doing?! Watch where you're driving, man! (He approaches the passenger side window) Don't mess with the Devils, buddy. We're number one, we beat anybody! We're the Devils! The Devils!! Haaaa!!!
(Puddy runs away, leaving the old priest shaken.)
FATHER HERNANDEZ: El Diablo! Dios mio! El Diablo!!
I’m sorry, your implication is that the meaning of the phrase is something rude or coarse? I didn’t know that. I apologize, I meant NO disrespect to the Holy Father, whose book I am currently reading with the greatest enjoyment.
Don’t google it or it will bring bad things to your computer.
I’m sorry, I thought it had something to do with basketball or hockey. Mea maxima culpa.
Didn’t they do this during The Inquisition?
This can ony help combat evil rampant among the faithless.
IN Russia within the Russian Orthodox Church, exorcisms are being done with great success.
Well, I can only speak for my Parish, but at Our Lady of Hope in Potomac Falls, VA, the prayer to St. Michael is said after the dismissal in Mass. It was the first time I encountered it and I hope the practice spreads.
For those who are not familiar with the prayer:
Saint Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle; be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray: and do thou, O Prince of the heavenly host, by the power of God, thrust into hell Satan and all the evil spirits who prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen.
There is some interesting history behind this prayer when I looked it up on Wikipedia at this link:
Mar 16:16 "He who has believed and has been baptized shall be saved; but he who has disbelieved shall be condemned.
Mar 16:17 "These signs will accompany those who have believed: in My name they will cast out demons, they will speak with new tongues;
Mar 16:18 they will pick up serpents, and if they drink any deadly poison, it will not hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover."
If you are Christian [not just a member of some religion that use the term 'christian'] you can and should be casting out demons. Forget the hollywood and RCC nonsense and DO what Jesus has told you to do.
I wish... but the Vat has already denied this story.
“The Pope has ordered his bishops to set up exorcism squads to tackle the rise of Satanism.”
So there is such a thing? I thought it was only part of Hollywood horror flicks.
This was going on big time in the early 1970’s. What makes anyone think there’s more interest now?
