NEW YORK - Chicago and New York are about to close out 2007 with the lowest number of homicides in more than 40 years, while cities such as Baltimore, Atlanta and Miami have seen killings go up because of what police say is a surge in guns and gang violence.

This is somewhat encouraging, but still the murder rate in major U.S. cities is horrific. The article doesn't even mention New Orleans, which of course is more dangerous than Baghdad. It also doesn't talk about the fact that 50% of all violent crimes are committed by blacks, mostly in the big welfare cities where parents are dismal failures. A majority of young blacks grow up in households where the father is absent. He produced children and ran. Why does the media not report the murder rate by race? We all know who is doing the shooting.

Yes, in a way it is Bushes fault. I live in Atlanta and we have been inundated with illegals and with them they have brought their gangs. I live in a suburban county just outside of the city, I would venture to say anytime there is a murder around here 90% of the time the victims name has a certain ethnic sound to it and I can promise you it ain’t Irish.

Odd that it doesn’t mention LA right off the bat; Los Angeles is on pace for its lowest number of murders in four decades.

I might be wrong, but I could’ve sworn that the local press was reporting a murder “epidemic” in Chicago earlier this year.

So why is LA’s murder rate dropping, then?

George Wallace said something similar in 1968. It cost him votes when the news media jumped on it.

Wow. Can we expect Mayor Bloomberg to run for president? He can claim he cleaned up New York City.

The population is expanding faster than the murder rate. Statistics lie.

“Why does the media not report the murder rate by race? We all know who is doing the shooting.”

Wouldn’t that make the shooters demoncratics?

"Bushes Fault???"

No, what I see here is a dire need for marksmanship training among the New York and Chicago gangbangers.

I think it is great that LA’s murder rate is dropping however I live in Georgia. When I moved to this particular area 14 years ago it was like Mayberry, now my neighborhood is tagged with the Latin Kings. Most of the murders stay within their own communities, maybe because most of us keep guns. That still does not change the fact that once the demographics started changing so did the crime rate.

In 1939 there were 40 murders in New York.

Since the 1960s, society, of course, has become ‘liberated’ from its outdated mores and beliefs, and so of course
is much improved from the days when :

the bible was read daily in schools, and prayers were recited (teaching the general concept that there was a God
and that character mattered more than learning)

sex was part of a sacred and wonderful relationship between two people madly in love with one another enough to want to stay together for the rest of their lives, and sign a paper that they were willing to do so;

priests were portrayed in movies by Bing Crosby;

criminal conduct was considered criminal;

etc.

Earlier this year, Baltimore was headed for its bloodiest year in nearly a decade. But the bloodletting eased up after a new police commissioner took office. The bloodshed in Baltimore is blamed on entrenched poverty, widespread drug addiction, failing schools and easy access to guns.

Entrenched poverty. Another name for the Welfare state.

However, the commissioner must be out on the streets 24 hours a day stopping crime.

The population is expanding faster than the murder rate. Statistics lie.

The raw total of murders, not the rate, is the lowest in Los Angeles for four decades.

Amazing how people get befuddled by good news that is hard to grind axes with.

By Richard Winton and Hector Becerra, Los Angeles Times Staff Writers December 24, 2007 Los Angeles is on track to end the year with fewer than 400 homicides for the first time in nearly four decades -- a hopeful milestone for a city so long associated with gangs, drive-by shootings and sometimes random violence.
With 386 killings recorded as of this morning, the city has experienced one-third the number of homicides it did in 1992. The last year with a comparably low figure was 1970, when Los Angeles had a million fewer residents, guns were far less prevalent and street gangs were a much smaller part of life in urban neighborhoods.

I guess Detroit is not a big city any more. The local media refuses to publish an figures for Detroit as they consider releasing such information racist.

No, that’s Rudy’s claim to make. Bloomberg has just coasted on a little additional momentum.

Hopefully the post was sarcastic, or this is yet more hilarious historical naivete on FR.
