RENO, Nev. If everything lines up just right, the Sierra Nevada and Lake Tahoe ski resorts could be in for some rough but welcome weather in the days ahead.
The National Weather Service has issued a special weather statement for the region beginning Thursday through the weekend.
Forecasters on Monday predicted snow totals in the range of 5 to 10 feet along the Sierra crest, with about 2 feet around Lake Tahoe.
Three storm systems are approaching the region and forecasters said they will be accompanied by strong winds that could create blizzard conditions.
Rain is likely at first in the valleys of western Nevada, but snow levels are expected to lower to the valley floors by the weekend.
After a lackluster winter last year, a hefty dumping of snow would be good news for the Sierra snowpack and region's water supply.
Show offs.
One large order of global varming coming up..
Time to ski!
Heard this on my Christmas present last night!
Cleaned the woodstove,Cut firewood, and split enough kindling to survive.
Wouldn’t you know that my central heat and air would pick this time of year to take a dump!
Good luck! I need to load up on some wood too.. this could be a real cold and wet one out of the Alaska gulf
Wouldnt you know that my central heat and air would pick this time of year to take a dump!
Must be a pandemic (kinda like bird flu), mine took a crap also.
This is Sierraous!
Did the polar bears travel to Antarctica or did some envirowacko rescue a penquin and drop it off in the Artic?
More Proof Of Global Warming...
& I love that pic...

I was planning on driving across the pass on Saturday on my way to my new job. Now I'm going to have to leave early.
Snow driving doesn't bother me, but the way Kalifornicators drive in snow bothers me.
I ain’t worried none, when the electricty goes out...it don’t work anyway!
I’ll just fire up the propane oven with a good old fashioned match if need be!
LOL! Very creative.
*sigh* I miss Reno....
We’ll do fine...If I can keep my damn rat terrier from opening the front door all the time!
Damn dog can open it from the inside and outside!
ROFL!
Reports are that heavy damage to the lifts and lodge has occured and avalanche warnings are in effect. That can only mean one thing......
excellent ski conditions!
Sounds like a 3 dog night RR.......Stay Safe !!
Merry New Year Sir !

There have been some requests to talk more about the ongoing La Nina phase of the El Nino Southern Oscillation cycle (ENSO) in the equatorial Pacific, especially since it is clearly having an impact on the weather patterns across parts of the globe and certainly here in North America. Here's the latest........
--Moderate-strength La Nina currently across the tropical Pacific.
--NOAA predicts continued La Nina conditions through Spring 2008.
Current sea surface anomalies from the Pacific, courtesy of NOAA. (Note the large area of colder than normal sea surface water covering a large part of the equatorial Pacific). Stronger than normal easterly winds over the region push warmer surface waters westward, while allowing colder water to upwell from the South American Pacific coast and expand westward near and along the equator.

What could this mean for the weather patterns across North America the rest of this winter if these ENSO forecasts hold true?
--Very strong Pacific jet stream should deliver many more storms to the West coast, especially from northern California up through southern BC.
Someone email Al Gore and let him know it’s polar bears and their bbqs causing global warming!
I’m still in ice cold and snow bound at my son’s home in Minnesota!
Don’t fly home to Kalifornicate until Thursday..
The kids seem indestructible and unfreezable — been sledding, cross country skiing and ice skating in this mess and seem to enjoy it! I was MISERABLE. My sainted wife looks blue.
My daughter and her family spent the last few days with family in Colorado Springs - and were due to fly home to Georgia this evening....
Haven’t heard a word and they aren’t answering their cell phones - so I’m hoping they’re aboard an airplane...
Will know soon enough...
Happy and a Healthy New Year to ya brother!
How is this news? Its winter.

Come onnnnnn, global WARMING!! Wooot!
We like our snow at Tahoe, but 70 degrees and sunny on Christmas Day in Huntington Beach wasn’t hard to take. ;O)
You only have one Rat Terrier? I'm down to 3. The snow on the back lawn makes the laser pointer more visible. I have all 3 of them running in the snow, then ready for a good nap after getting their tongues back under control.

The two brothers.

Mom
All this excitement south and east of us but here in eastern WA it was 50 and sunny today.
He’s a great dog! BUT! He is so smart! I have to watch him constantly
Up to 73 today, tomorrow and 70 Wed according to Acuweather at Los Alamitos Air Station....
It’s finally warming up here....feels good.
It’s Bush’s fault!!!! More evidence of global warming. We are doomed!!!!!
Off topic, but Free Republic should to a thread of overused phrases that people use here.

What pass? I-80, US 50, SR 108? Californians (not Kalifornicators) from the Central Valley don't know how to drive in snow but us folks in the High Sierra do. We need the snow, here it comes.

Forgot Highway 88.
This never gets mentioned.
Global warming is skipping our area here in Alabama the next few days. we have like 45-18, 35-18, 42-21, and 45-28. The norm is usually like 51-35. So, we are going to get a bit nippy. The winds come up tonight, 15-25 and tomorrow 20-30. Gonna be a little brisk.
The wet in that map is just a little bit more south as it is raining in a New Year here on Maui. No matter as spirits are high as Hawaii (no losses 12 and o) takes on Georgia in the Sugar Bowl tomorrow afternoon. Go Warriors!!
This never gets mentioned.
Your are right, and it is a good one too. I have traveled over it many times.
Why don’t you wait until your beer run and combine the two...
Hey watch it!
I remember doing 360s one year in Reno and all my fellow ballet dancers had Nevada plates...
Our 3 Rat Terriers can stand up and turn in a circle on the kitchen floor. They have exceptionally good balance.
Well shoot! We cut back on CO2 production and lookee what happens.
It’s liquid gold out West..

You can see his attitude in his stance
Gore seems to be strangely silent ever since colder than normal storms have been hitting the country.
Hope everyone gets ready for it. I’m expecting a fairly intense but brief storm. We’re in the Sacratomatoes area and AccuWeather’s add-on for FireFox is showing rain for 12 of the next 13 days! OTOH, they’ve been batting about 0% in their longer range forecasting the last several years, so I’m not too worried about it.
