I usually don’t defend Mexicans either. Last time they made a serious invasion they ate all the Anasazi.

"Yes, but it does not say anything about Sharia law, etc. I still believe that the snopes link is a hoax."

The Caribou Coffee site
http://www.cariboucoffee.com/aboutus/ownership.asp

Excerpt:
"Our majority shareholder since 2000 is an affiliate of Arcapita Bank B.S.C.(c)...Arcapita, whose investors are located primarily in the Middle East , makes its investments in a manner consistent with the body of Islamic principles known as Shari’ah. Consequently, we operate our business in a manner consistent with Shari’ah principles and will continue to do so as long as Arcapita is a significant shareholder."

Dear MrsPatriot,

If you click on FAQ #2, you get:

Who owns Caribou Coffee? Is Caribou Coffee publicly traded?
Caribou Coffee Company became public company with an initial public offering on September 29, 2005. Our stock trades on the NASDAQ National market under the symbol CBOU. Our majority shareholder since 2000 is an affiliate of Arcapita Bank B.S.C.(c).

The first Caribou Coffee store opened on the corner of France Avenue and 44th Street in Minneapolis, Minnesota, in 1992. Today, Caribou Coffee still calls Minneapolis home, but has grown to more than 430 stores across the central and eastern U.S.

For more information, please see our Investor Relations section.

There is a hyperlink there for Arcapita Bank B.S.C.(c).

If you click it, you’ll get this page:

http://www.cariboucoffee.com/aboutus/ownership.asp

From that page, here is an excerpt:

Arcapita, whose investors are located primarily in the Middle East , makes its investments in a manner consistent with the body of Islamic principles known as Shari’ah. Consequently, we operate our business in a manner consistent with Shari’ah principles and will continue to do so as long as Arcapita is a significant shareholder.

In particular, we must comply with Shari’ah principles regarding money that we borrow from other parties. For example, our lease financing arrangement, under which we have obtained financing to fund our operations and expand our business, is structured in a manner that complies with Shari’ah principles. The structure of this lease financing arrangement is described in the prospectus relating to our initial public offering. Also, a Shari’ah-compliant company is prohibited from dealing in the areas of alcohol, gambling, pornography, pork and pork-related products.

Hope that helps.

Interesting that you mention all the cabs going there. Someone else posted awhile back that he rode in a cab, and the driver had about 20 cell phones, which he answered only in Arabic. What a great vehicle to go everywhere and see everything with no suspicion. Mobile and in contact with many others.

The Mexicans didn’t eat the Anasazi. The Anasazi ducked into a kiva and came out in L.A. Now they drive taco trucks to construction sites.

oOH ...I have a real thing about all the Muslim
cabbies here. They’re constantly violating the
law by being on their cells, speaking in Arabic,
and most have their radio stations tuned to NPR.

I know that’s laughable, but after enough rides
with them, your mind does begin to wander .. LOL

It’s in the local Wal-Marts, and I wish it wasn’t. Caribou Coffee was founded around 2002 to compete with Starbuck’s, which has a Jewish CEO.

I got a Keurig for Christmas also. I love the Caribou Coffee K cup.

I'm going to miss drinking it.

BTW, I LOVE the Keurig coffee machine. I find the Timothies and Nantucket brand coffee pretty good

I found it on the official Caribou Coffee web site by poking around a little.

How sad! I have always liked Caribou, especially back when it was privately owned. I just got a pound of their coffee for Christmas. Guess I’ll try to avoid them and go to mom and pop coffee shops instead.

Glad I'm not the only one. I've been feeling a little out of the loop. ;-)

I'm stigmatized by being home and being in conversations with friends and family and having to ask "Who's so-and-so?" or "What's that?" about various pop-cultural current events they discuss.

I thought the internet had kept me pretty much up-to-date, but I'm discovering I've missed quite a lot. LOL

You should try roasting your own!

It’s easy. And, your neighbors will be banging on your door when they get a whiff of your roasting beans, it’s THAT good. Right now it just happens that I’m drinking some sampler pack mexican-something-i-can’t-pronounce stuff I picked up a while back, that I threw in with a larger order. have about 40#s that I keep in reserve, of Sumatra mandheling, which I like.

All you need to get started is a frying pan, or better, a popcorn popper - either the old-fashioned stovetop w/ crank, or the air-popper type.

Well, sorry this doesn't bother you. Personally, I'd rather not give my money to supporters of Shariia law. I'm not keen on any system that justifies whipping rape victims and slaughtering non-Muslims, but I guess thats just the Christian-American woman coming out in me.

Happy and safe travels. God bless you in your next sandbox chapter.

Thanks! The next and possibly last. My current mission ends in April. While I have been asked to stay, I may decide that four years (plus) is enough. I've been thinking about it a lot lately and I'm feeling a pull to reconnect to the homefront.

So, 2008 may see my Iraq Swan Song.

A very happy and propserous 2008 to you and yours!

Boca Java! American owned. And they will donate coffee to our troops overseas depending on your order. They call it "Operation 5 Million Cup".

And here's the best part for me: You call or order online. They roast the beans the next business day and ship them out the next day. Now that is fresh.

Most Americans have never had a truly fresh cup o' coffee. Give them a shot. You'll love it.

And ... just think how much fun you’ll have shopping for detonation produce ... huh? ;)

Thanks for posting this article, STARWISE. The credibility of snopes.com has been questioned, several replies ago, but for them to print this info, with their liberal slant and usual “soft peddling” with regard to terrorism, had to “torque” them, as you said.
Whenever I check something out at snopes, I trust the information I find there, for the most part. Sometimes reading between the lines of the liberal mumbo jumbo is necessary, but for the most part they print the facts.
I will avoid Caribou Coffee. Thanks!

I put in my parents' zip code and found this madrassa:

"For our children, the quality of Islamic education depends essentially on the cooperative effort from three important institutions: home, school, and community. The greater the degree of Islamization of these three environments, the stronger our children's Islamic personality will be. LUA prepares every child to take his/her place as a productive citizen of this great land. In order to maintain his/her Islamic identity, every child at LUA must realize that "America is where I live; Islam is how I live; and Muslim is who I am."

This should read, "America is where I live; American is how I live; and American is who I am."

I think Starbucks sucks too. At Milwaukee’s Mitchell airport they kind of forced out a really good mom and pop place that had good coffee, airport employee discounts and a buy ten get one free card. I don’t know if it is a nation wide chain, but Stone Creek coffee is great, also Berres Brothers.
