You cannot train a dog to keep the peace. Maybe not, but I trained mine to retrieve the newspaper from the end of the driveway.

If you had trained it to chew somebody up on command (unless you are LEO), both of you might be dead.

Kind of like the bumper sticker that says, “The more people I meet, the more bullets I need.”
R.I.P., poor doggie.

Why did they put the dog on the guy?
He was out of the car.
Did he have a weapon?
Did the cops just want to see some blood?
Seems they just wanted so see they’re pet having some fun.
I love dogs, but a trained dog in the hands of sadists is trouble waiting to happen, IMHO.

And, BTW, where in the article does it even remotely say the guy grabbed the dog and took him with him?

Yep, several years ago here in Sacramento, we had some drunken, drugged-out lunatic throw a police dog off a bridge, killing it. But you don’t have to throw them off a bridge. In fact, you don’t have to be very strong at all to seriously injure a dog. It’s only because most people are scared to death of being bitten that allows police dogs (especially the lone police dog) to be effective. I’m very thankful for that!

Please tell me your next post will be: "I was being sarcastic." The dog served a useful purpose, the criminal didn't. Now the taxpayers have to warehouse this piece of human refuse. My original statement stands.

Sorry, I live here, and the CHP Sgt. on scene (who witnessed the entire event) said so on our local news programs here.
Why in the WORLD would you EVER defend such a horrible person?

” The dog served a useful purpose, the criminal didn’t.”
So let me get this straight... The guy was suspected of being drunk and was pursued by cops where he got into an accident.
So the drunk guy serves no useful purpose but the dog does?
The dog is a tool of the police, the same as the cop’s flashlight or gun or radar detector, period. It’s just an animal, and if the perp had been giving it treats, it would have went after the cop.
You put an animal’s life above a person? How weird...
