Low-Key Thompson Stumbles Toward Finish Line
ABC ^ | 1/2/08 | Rick Klein

Two days before the Iowa caucuses — day 15 of his 17-day "hands down" bus tour — former senator Fred Thompson's campaign bus stood motionless in the snowy parking lot of a West Des Moines motel, across from a movie theater and a suburban strip mall.

Thompson's campaign scheduled only one event for New Year's Day, a meet-and-greet at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown, about an hour outside Des Moines. Thompson, R-Tenn., shunned the bus, emblazoned with his picture, for the relative comfort of a black Chevrolet Suburban.

(snip)

Thompson has staked his campaign's prospects to Iowa. In seeking to jump-start his campaign last month, he promised to crisscross the Hawkeye State with visits to 50 cities and towns in 17 days aboard his new campaign bus.

Low-Key Thompson Stumbles Toward Finish Line

Did somebody bother to tell Hunter that the race started?

I seriously doubt that. Just saw him on Fox News — he basically told the press to f-off if they don’t like how he is handling his campaign.

You know, this is another reason why you can’t get started late in the primary season: by December in IA and NH, it can be near impossible to even get around, so your campaigning has to be “in the can” by then.

Thompson didn’t start late -— the rest of the pack started WAAAAAAAAY too early.

From the article:

Marshalltown was the 45th event, and the campaign is on target to hit 50 by caucus day...

I’m glad to see you and ABC have the same opinions.

How does bashing Thompson help Hunter? It only helps Romney, McPain and the Huckster.

Hunter's Folly: $63 Million Aircraft Can't Fly

In military-industrial circles, former House Armed Services Committee chairman (and long-shot Presidential candidate) Duncan Hunter is well-known as a guy who makes damn sure that his pet projects get healthy heaps of federal bucks -- whether the Pentagon wants 'em, nor not. Some of these efforts are pretty cool, like the tricked-out, ultra-fast catamaran that the Navy is now using for humanitarian and counter-narcotics missions. Others are considerably, um, less impressive.

Take the DP-2 -- an experimental, vertical take-off aircraft that "Congress has spent more than $63 million on... [but] has never flown more than a few feet," ABC News reports, online and in hilarious video.

I assume the faster Fred drops out, the faster his conservative supporters will back the other conservative in the race, like they should have from day one.

“Yah think” this is a taaaaaad biased in headlines?

I don’t think ANY candidate is “stumbling” to the finish line.

Peniless to the finish line perhaps.

I don’t think it’s a good idea to endorse this kind of ‘reporting’. The bias oozes out of every line.

To read this piece as you have done, and then to reflect upon it with apparent satisfaction - you’re not doing your guy any favours.

Did somebody bother to tell Hunter that the race started?
Yes ...... But he's not up to it based upon this poll or for that matter any other I've seen.

Mitt Romney 30%
Mike Huckabee 28%
John McCain 16%
Fred Thompson 13%
Rudy Giuliani 4%
Ron Paul 4%
Duncan Hunter 1%
Undecided 4%

Hunter's grand race

Congressman Duncan Hunter (R-CA), Chairman of the House Armed Services Committee, has come under fire from constituents for accepting nearly a quarter million dollars in campaign contributions from missile defense contractors over the past five years. Hunter has also drawn criticism for accepting $46,000 from un-indicted co-conspirators implicated in bribing Hunter’s friend and San Diego colleague, Randy “Duke” Cunningham, who resigned from Congress after pleading guilty.
