As the presidential candidates engage in furious pre-caucus spin, one of Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton's most prominent Iowa supporters said Wednesday that she's already accomplished what she needs to in Iowa, and can declare success even if she finishes in third place.
Asked if the order of finish matters, Former governor Tom Vilsack, D-Iowa, deflected the question.
"She absolutely had to be competitive and she's accomplished that," he said. "Obviously everybody's interested in winning, and I think we're going to do well. It's tight. There's no question about that."
In May, Vilsack was quoted in the Washington Post, saying, "There's no question she's playing in Iowa and playing to win,' Tom Vilsack, who dropped out of the presidential race earlier this year and endorsed Clinton."
Vilsack's comments reflect the widespread uncertainty -- and the panicked dash to manage expectations.......

Still, cudoes to Chelsea's team of plastic surgeons. If she can continue to stand the discomfort and pain as her jaws are reworked, maybe she can eventually become a public person.

I will always give any person (especially a pretty woman) an assumption of being a nice and genuine individual, until she shows me otherwise......even if she has Hillary and Bill as parents. I am sure it was a difficult position to be in.

I met Chelsea and Bill once while he was pres. It was at a bar in Jackson Hole, and I was in a small upstairs part of the bar, and Clinton, a bunch of WhiteHouse staffers and Chelsea came and ate right right next to me.
The White House staffers were all 20-somethings, Chelsea was still a teenager, I think. It was in Summer ‘95 - right after Jerry Garcia had died.
Anyhow, everyone at the table were basically jerks except Chelsea.
It was a small crowded space, and the only one there who had the courtesy to say “excuse me” to my date as she pushed her way into the table was Chelsea. The rest of the White House staffers just seemed like rude jerks thinking they were big shots.
I had a conversation with her when she left.
She was very kind and courteous.
She was like the one sweet girl in a room of arrogant young people.
I think she’s probably a very nice person, and I also liked when she stood up for the US against a lot of US-bashing at school in England.

I’ve seen her hips and butt and she wasn’t jogging any where after 9-11!!! Fir a young person she sure has had a lot of plastic done! Ya wonder about her inner beauty if any being raised by these two yutzs!

Well put. Chelsea can’t help her looks. And she can’t help who her parents are. I think she has gotten a lot of totally undeserved bashing here on FR.
Besides Edwards and Obama, Biden, Richardson, Dodd, and Kucinich are still in the race. Wouldn't it be tasty if she came in seventh?
I predicted a Clinton 3rd place finish in Iowa a month ago.

I had something else in mind.
I read a book a few years back about insiders (White House insiders) over the years remarking about the various offspring of the various presidents. Chelsea got good reviews, so to speak. She was described as basically a good kid (though her mother was disliked immensely). The only presidential kid who was despised by practically everyone was Amy Carter.

Off the topic but I’m housebound today and watching a lot of the Iowa coverage. Every clip I’ve of Hil has Huma within inches of her. If you didn’t know you would swear she was Hil’s Secret Service agent. She’s extremely homely!

No Tom, finishing LAST among the viable, non-asterisk percentaged candidates IS NOT GOOD for the candidate who was originally to be crowned.
I guess the difference between a caucus and an election is that the ballots or whatever are not secret.So, if you’ve been polite to Hillary and then turn on her, what happens to you??
If you’re running for student council, third is fine. This is for the POTUS. Third is NOT FINE for Hillary. She was the only real candidate when this started...the keeper of the Dem Party and THE PURSE!!
I do not like to mock or hear people mock the look of any woman, be they Hillary, Helen Thomas or even Cindy Sheehan. Men can handle the comments about their looks a lot more than women can so comments about men don't really bother me. (Sounds sexist, but it's true.)
The disparaging remarks about Chelsea are the worst in my opinion. Growing up in the spotlight is hard enough for anyone, but when your physical looks are trashed by thousands of people who don't even know you, that's devastating.
I hope she stays away from politics, as I am sure I would not agree with her on any issue, but I hope that people will not put the sins of her parents on her for the rest of her life either.
I’m sure Chelsea holds a million secrets and some disdain for her parents. Maybe when she’s older and they’ve passed away, she’ll tell us the hurts she has gone through.

And as for Mrs.Clinton, ya can tell when she’s lying, her mouth moves.
My prediction: If Hillary is ever in danger of losing the nomination, she will file a legal separation against Sissboy and put her daughter on Oprah to tell how she has been abused.
No matter how she fairs in Iowa or anywhere else, she has the nomination locked up, bought and paid for.
She should look pretty at least sometimes, she has had plenty of work done as has her mother. They have lousy genetic material and need all the help that they can get from the knife of a surgeon.
