Eager to Vote But Stuck in Citizenship Process
The Los Angeles Times ^ | January 2, 2008 | Anna Gorman

Julia Moreno has been following the presidential campaign and studying the issues. She has even chosen her favorite candidate: "La Señora Clinton."

Moreno, a legal immigrant from Guatemala who came to Los Angeles more than 30 years ago, applied for citizenship this summer so she would be able to vote -- starting with the 2008 presidential election.

But U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services announced recently that green card holders who applied after June 1 could have to wait 16 to 18 months for their applications to be processed. For Moreno, that means she might be unable to cast her ballot for president.

"It's terrible," said Moreno, 62. "It's a long wait. . . .I want to vote. Mrs. Clinton needs my vote. Maybe my vote will put her in the White House."

It is past time that we enforce the language requirement on citizenship tests.
We also need to weed out people who desire to change our polity. These are sedition aliens participating in an illegal conspiracy to overthrow the Republic.

If you are an LPR (Legal permanent resident), you don’t have a visa that “expires”. Note the words LEGAL and PERMANENT.

It should read: “Eager to Vote Herself Other People’s Hard Earned Money But Too Lazy to Follow the Process”

What a repulsive leech, the inevitable result of socialism and open borders.

"For Moreno, that means she might be unable to cast her ballot for president."

Absurd. She'll be able to vote several times for Hillary.

I am not going to assume that the above means the same as...

Hey, Senora Moreno, Welcome to (the REAL) America!
And learn a REAL American saying:
"TIMING IS EVERYTHING!"

What is still startling is the total silence, even within the GOP, about the permanent majority the rats would achieve.............

That's because they really don't care. Many will simply change parties and continue on the same as they were before. Happened here in Texas. Our current gov Goodhair used to be a rat. Changed parties when he realized a rat couldn't get elected to statewide office here. Of course, last election, you'd find freepers screaming about a vote for anyone else being a vote for a rat. Like there was really any difference.

Next cycle, Hutchison will be running, and we'll get more of the same.

I thought I read that she wouldn't be running again. Dunno if it's true, though.

Well, I just don’t get this. Here 30 years — on a green card? What is the purpose of citizenship if someone can come here on a green card and stay 30 years? Is there no time limit on a green card that requires them to go back home and apply for citizenship? Can they come here on a green card and apply for citizenship? Or are these people really illegals overstaying? I am so sick of these blood suckers.

There are work "green cards" and then there are other sorts, family, etc. You can marry a brit, and have her live with you here, forever, without her giving up brit citizenship. There are always stories of some 80-year old Italian woman who came here as a child, legally, and never got citizenship, finally being naturalized. You can adopt your new french wife's child and have her live with you without her giving up her former citizenship -- and she'd be a "LEGAL PERMANENT resident."

I'm not sure that I see why a legal permanent resident, which can come about for any number of reasons, is a "blood-sucker." They're fully documented, and subject to all of our tax and other laws, including, e.g. draft registration, where appropriate (male).

So you are saying in answer to my “question” that a green card can give someone and even additional family legal premanent residency.

1. There is a status called "Legal permanent resident." It is often familiarly equated with "green card" although there are actually a lot of different "work permits" that are green card, as are there a lot of ways to be an LPR. I'm just saying that these are all "by the books," per the laws congress has passed.

2. I wasn't necessarily saying anything about an LPR's ability to bring in other family members. I just don't know that part of the law. My example of the "french adopted child" was that the FATHER (American Citizen) could probably bring in an adopted child legally. (Obviously, lots of American citizens are bringing in foreign adopted children legally -- check any flight coming back from China these days. Those kids are legal, but won't be citizens unless the adopted parents do something affirmative, or the kids do so when they become 18 or 21.
