Pakistan - The Final Front For al-Qaeda

I have been saying for months the final operations against al-Qaeda will take place in the tribal regions of Northern Pakistan along the border with Afghanistan.

This is the birth place of the Taliban and al-Qaeda, and it is their last large sanctuary on Earth now that they are being pushed out of Iraq, Lebanon, Algieria and were unable to create a toe-hold in any other Arab-Muslim country (including Saudi Arabia, Jordan and Egypt which they tried to attack).

Walid Phares has a must read history lesson and tutorial on al-Qaeda and Pakistan, which provides the context for the coming final battles with al-Qaeda:

The long-term plan of the Taliban and al Qaeda in Afghanistan during the 1990s was to eventually spread to Pakistan and seize power and ultimately, after 1999, to seize Pakistan’s nukes, too. Miscalculating on September 11th, Osama bin Laden lost Kabul and the Jihadi war room crossed over to their eastern neighbor. Plan B was then to seize Waziristan and gradually Talibanize the country, grabbing the “doomsday” devices in the end.

For the last seven years the Jihadi hydra, protected by the fundamentalist tribes and hooking up with the local Islamist movements (digging their tentacles deep inside the defense and intelligence apparatus), attempted to spread in that direction.

Yes some of us have been saying for a while that because Al Qaeda has been utterly defeated in Iraq they are going to move their terror war to Pakistan and possibly to North Africa (Morocco, Algeria).

The real killer for AQ is the general decline and unpopularity of radical Islamic parties throughout the world. Without hosts, the business model collapses.

I’ve been saying all along that by invading Iraq bush denied al qaeda it’s next base after Afghanistan. Thereby shortening the overall war by one country.
If aq had been able to set up in Iraq it would have been very difficult to oust them and the WMD would have been used.
Now we have lots of troops, equiopment, intel, communications and other war necessities in theater.

For all the cash we have sent to Pakistan - once OBL is caught and killed, one way or another we need to have his head on a stick on display at Ground Zero. Musharaf (or whomever is in charge at the time it happens) owes us that much.

After what Al Qaeda did to Bhutto, Musharraf has an excuse to go after the Waziristan cave-dwellers.

The media keeps saying that there is no indication who was responsible for the Bhutto assassination, but Al Qaeda claimed responsibility the very day it occurred. One reason for it was that Bhutto said she would be willing to allow Americn operations in Waziristan and the western provinces. They could not allow that. My bet is that her widower backs off that faster than you can say "Benazir."

Of course, the media wants to minimize the Taliban/AQ threat, but the American people aren't buying what these seditionists are selling.

I would love it if the Pakistani government would open its airspace to us so we can stuff a couple of smart bombs in the exact coordiantes of Osama bin Laden's rear end.

Hey, Osama: If martyrdom is such a great thing, why don't you do it yourself?

Think about this statement and the significance of the war in Iraq. If the terrorists have Iraq, they do not need the charity of others to perpetuate their existence. they have dirt to make camp on, and revenue from the taxes collected and, of course, oil.

Your statement carries a lot of water.

I don't care if they go quietly, as long as they're gone when we get done.

There is a whole new generation of them being trained in Saudi funded madrass schools all over Pakistan and the muslim world.
While north Pakistan is a target rich environment for taliban and al-queda, cleaning it out won’t finish this.

We can’t get it done if we don’t get it started. This is the moment to strike and secure all nuclear sites in Pakistan. We can’t wait until after the US election.

If your professor is the usual leftist, then they have a lot in common. They they both believe the world will be better after they take over, despite all evidence to the contrary, they're both secretly tyrants over every aspect of life, AND they're both witlessly working for the same people.

The Iranian Bomb is getting a pass right now because of the BS in Pakistan, which includes the assassination of Bhutto. Al-Qaeda has become the lapdog of the Iranian mullahcracy. My view is, as the Iraqi backfields is wrapped up, the US needs to move immediately against Iran and help the Paki government funnel the sudden flood of volunteers from its own militias, from Taliban and Afghan sources, etc, into an Iranian kill zone.
