RON PAUL to DFU on Iowa radio - he would not stop ship with nuclear missiles from N. Korea to Iran
WHO RADIO in Des Moines ^ | 1-3-08 | dfu

Posted on 01/03/2008 9:15:39 AM PST by doug from upland

For those who have doubts that Ron Paul would be an acceptable commander in chief, your doubts would have been absolutely confirmed if you listened to him this morning on WHO 1040 talk radio in Des Moines, Iowa.

He came on Jan Mickelson's show at about 8:50am, Pacific Time. I was the second caller.

After complimenting him on his commitment to the Constitution, I asked a question about foreign policy. If any of you can pull the podcast, you can hear the conversation.

The question went something like this: Dr. Paul, if a shipment of nuclear tipped missiles was heading from North Korea to Iran, knowing the position of Ahmadinejad and the mullahs, would you stop that ship or sink it?

His answer was stunning. He very quickly answwered, "No, why would we do that?" After that question back to me, he commented that there was almost zero chance of that happening. He said that if he knew they planned to use them against us, he would take action. But they know they would be obliterated.

I wanted to challenge him further over Iran's stated goal of destroying Israel, but I was apparently cut off by the host and couldn't do it.

There you go, folks. Dr. Paul is an unthinkable commander in chief.

That was you?? I stream WHO here at work.
I heard the question and heard him trying to hedge on the answer.
He didn’t want to answer, but eventually said that Iran wouldn’t dare use nukes if they got them because of retaliation.
But yes he wouldn’t stop the ship.

I wish the host would have given me more time to engage him. I was not surprised by the answer and was pleased to be able to show him for what he is. Ahmadinejad would probably pick him as our leader even over Kucinich.

Too bad. I wonder what his answer would be if Iran had used those missiles to destroy Israel. Would he retaliate then? Or would he only act if they targeted us?

I would presume he wouldn’t. After all, Cuban hadn’t attacked us yet. He also didn’t want Reagan to put Pershing IIs in Europe.

Mikkelson is a smart guy who knows the Constitution and the ways it is being ignored.
But I almost get the impression he is favoring Paul after hearing him the past few days. A scary thing if true.

Kudos to you calling his show and getting through.

” I wonder what his answer would be if Iran had used those missiles to destroy Israel. “

Hands folded; “They didn’t hit us. It’s none of our business.” It’s absolutely consistent with everything I’ve seen about Ron Paul. He’s still living in that Special Wonderland of Isolationism that only childish magical thinking can sustain. It’s grossly irresponsible.

Good job, Doug. Campaigns are for finding out where candidates really stand. Now a lot more people know.

Great work DFU

Ron Paul has already stated that America only needs one Submarine with nukes as a defense and deterent.

Therefore, the US military would face a fate worse than Carter and Clinton combined. When the US military is weakened, we all know what happens next.

With a desperate and honest desire to avoid the unavoidable emotional baggage on the subject: what is the Constitutional grounds for a President doing exactly that (stopping a nuke shipment from NK to Iran)?

what is the Constitutional grounds for a President doing exactly that (stopping a nuke shipment from NK to Iran)?

Article 1, Section 8, Subsection 10- Congress is authorized to define and punish offenses against the laws of nations. The Constitution also puts a lot of emphasis on honoring treaties and we are cosigners of the Nuclear Nonproliferation treaty.

As someone who works in and for the government, now for over 30 years, I'm telling you Paul is completely out of touch with reality. They, being Korea and Iran, ALREADY KNOW we would obliterate them... ASSUMING we have someone with the testicular fortitude in office to actually take some action.

That person is NOT Ron Paul.

The Koreans, Iranians (and most ME countries), as well as Russian and China want to see the United States completely dismantled and destroyed. They don't want to do it VIOLENTLY yet, but that time is COMING sooner than people think.

If Ron Paul thinks it won't be in his life time, he might be right if he is sitting in the White House on the day it is vaporized by Chinese made missiles and nuclear weapons from the Middle East.

So you are saying Bush is the standard we should strive to achieve to?

In case you noticed, Bush didn't do anything about NK test-firing nukes or Iranians crossing into Iraq. Nor did he do anything when the Chinese shot down our spy plane early in his administration, other than wrote a long-winded apology.

But you got your desired results. You've awoken the Pavlov dogs here, who'll commence with one-liners, smears, and photo-shopped pictures of Paul shortly.

Earth to Ru Paul...these people are genocidal homicidal SUICIDAL sociopathic maniacs! That you don’t get that by now can only mean you’re absolutely never EVER going to get it!

If they’re willing to die to take out a handful of people on buses or cafes, imagine their reward with 72 virgins if they detonated a dirty bomb and killed tens of thousands?

Ayn Rand's "stolen concept." He relies on a pre-existing condition (our ability to obliterate someone) which he himself would have opposed developing in the first place.

Ayn Rand, even as nutty as she could be sometimes, would have kicked his ass.

Bush should have done something about Iranian involvement in Iraq. I’m not defending his foreign policy. Something needed to be done with N. Korea back in the 1990s. It now appears to be too late. WE CANNOT ALLOW IRAN TO BECOME A NUCLEAR POWER. Ron Paul would allow it because he thinks it is none of our business. This is 2008, not 1808. The ocean no longer protects us.
