District allows boy in girls' restrooms
WorldNetDaily.com ^ | January 4, 2008 | Bob Unruh

Posted on 01/04/2008 6:44:49 AM PST by wintertime

A school district following Maine's Human Rights Law and providing special accommodations to a 10-year-old with "sexual orientation or gender identification" issues is being accused of discrimination by a man whose grandson is being denied those same accommodations because of his sexual orientation – that of heterosexuality.

The dispute at Asa C. Adams Elementary School in Orono has the school committee on the defense, the grandfather on the march, and the local Bangor News newspaper trying to set rules for "Christian" behavior for the community.

Paul Melanson (Photo courtesy Christian Civic League of Maine)

At the heart of the issue is the treatment being provided an unidentified 10-year-old at the elementary school, according to documentation from the Christian Civic League of Maine.

The organization is reporting Paul Melanson found out his grandson's school was allowing another boy to use the girl's restroom, and decided that wasn't right. He told his grandson to follow the other boy into the girl's restroom whenever he saw the other boy doing it, and when he did, the boy was confronted by school officials and warned against such behavior, and the grandfather was confronted by police.

However, Melanson responded to those concerns by alleging the school was discriminating against his grandson by depriving him of the accommodations allowed others, simply because of his sexual orientation, an action banned under state law.

League attorney Steve Whiting confirmed Melanson has a point, noting that the state's "gay" rights law passed in 2005 indicates Melanson's grandson should be able to use the girl's bathroom if the school allows another 10-year-old boy to do that.

Now Melanson, whose battle may very well be foreshadowing similar issues that appear to be developing in other parts of the country with similar "gender issues" laws, is vowing to continue the battle.

Christian children should not be used as pawns to score political or religious points.

Also,,,What happens in California doesn't stay in California. It sweeps the nation and finally winds up in Maine.

It's time for Chritian teachers in this school district to quit. Personally, I don't know how they can justify working there.

What are they doing? What example for Christianity are they setting when they open the doors to this school and its classrooms?

1) Do they kneel before God and pray, "Help me to be sly and sneaky today so that I can sneak a few grains of Christian morality to my students today." If Christian teachers are doing this, then they are teaching by example that Christians are sly and sneaky.

2) Are they praying, "God, please help the students not notice that I am aiding and abetting a system that is utterly hostile to the Judeo Christian values that are universal for all men."

3) Are they asking God, "Please help me to act in a lukewarm manner about Judeo Christian values so that I can continue to collect my pay check and very generous vacation, retirement, and health benefits. Please help the students not notice that that I do this for money. "

4) Do they say to God, "Yes, Christ spits the lukewarm out of his mouth but please don't let my students be nauseated by me and my example."

Is it any wonder that so many Christian youth reject their religion within 2 years of graduating from government high school (85%). While homeschoolers stay faithful by 90% and more? ( Yes, I have links.)It is said that example is the best teachers, but what are teachers modeling? That Christians are sneaky? Sly? Lukewarm? And will betray their religious convictions for money?

Personally, I believe that example is not the "best" teacher. Example is the ONLY teacher! So?...What are Christian teachers teaching their students by their example? Answer: Plenty that is very negative!

If Christ would spit a lukewarm, fence sitting Christian teacher out of his mouth, I don't doubt students would be nauseated as well!

So?...Tell me. Will the job of true missionaries (that these formerly government school kids meet as adults) be harder or easier because of Christian teachers trying to use a salt shaker to spread a little Christian morality around? Answer: Harder!

The solution:

1) If you work in a Maine government school, get out of it the now! If you work in any government school heading in the same direction, do the same.

2) Or,,, If you continue to work in the government school, then stop being lukewarm. Get completely off the fence and get yourself fired!

3) Remember: Your own children and the children of your congregation are your most important mission field.

4)Work to start Christian schools in your congregations.

5) Once Christian schools are smoothingly functioning in your church, take in as many non-Christians as possible, provided it does not overwhelm the culture of the school. Mentor the non-Christian parents. Introduce them to the gospel. Teach them sound parenting practices. Teach them how to create a Christ-centered home where learning is valued.

6) Work with others to organize a massive school tax revolt, and SHUT these government schools down! They are destroying the Judeo Christian values, morals, and ethics, upon which ALL freedom rests. All it takes is one generation and freedom will utimately lose in the voting booth!

7) Think creatively. Expensive brick and mortar schools are not necessary. With today's technology an excellent education can be available to all in home schools, "micro-schools", one-room-schools, and through distance learning.

8) Work to form private Christian scholarship foundations that would give private vouchers to private Christian schools. Harvard has a $35 BILLION dollar endowment! We are a wealth nation. Every child wanting a free Christian education in our nation could have one! Christians could do this if they **wanted**! ( even every child in the world!)

Perhaps one reason that Christian education, and Christian scholarship foundations, are so weak in this nation is because there are too many Christian government school teachers sitting in the pews, and their ministers are too timid to offend them and their government paycheck ( a portion of which makes it to the collect plate). Follow the money.

So one kid has a problem and the entire school district has to go homo? And the homeschoolers are crazy? Yeah sure!

And with this lawsuit, the school may just adopt the more “enlightened” policies of Penn and other schools where bathrooms are unisex/gender neutral. Everyone ****s together. Wonderful.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Christian teachers in this district should do one of two things:

1) Stop being lukewarm, fence sitting Christians and protest and REFUSE to cooperate...and be fired!

or

2) Quit!

Is is any wonder that 85% of Christian kids stop being active in their faith 2 years after graduating from high school? Hey,,,is there anything more nauseating than lukewarm Christianity sprinkled with a little salt?

What example are these Christian teachers setting for their students????

One of Saul Alinsky’s Rules For Radicals is to force your opponent to obey his own rules.

You can see where that is working here, as the rules they made in 2005 apparently mean that if you let one male use the “girl’s room”, you can’t deny another male that same privilege based on sexual orientation.

Yes, children should not be used as pawns, but the grandfather felt he must make a stand.

The Christian teachers should form a co-op, or something like “teachers on call” for the homeschooling community.

The good ones with good skills in teaching certain topics, and with a healthy respect for the supremacy of parental influence, could get paid fairly decently in such an arrangement.

“One of Saul Alinsky’s Rules For Radicals is to force your opponent to obey his own rules.”

This seems to work in most situations, IF you can make the rule makers obey the rules. That’s the sticky wicket sometimes.

Nothing as satisfying, though, as seeing some authoritarian squirm under the application of something he sought to impose on “the little people”.

Yeah, but that was back in the old days when we didn’t allow kids to run their own lives. These days, a kid isn’t good at sports (or gets picked on, or sneezes) and decides he wants to be a girl.

These kids need help and direction, not coddling. It makes me sick. I can pretty much guarantee the sick child doesn’t have parents. If anything he has somebody trying to be his friend.

As usual, you fail to mention that whatever the percentage is (I’ve seen figures from 60 to 90 percent, and you probably have, too) that’s the percentage who stop going to church for at least a year, NOT the percentage who drop out for good. A large percentage of those people NEVER stop believing even if they aren’t going to church and a good number return to being active.

Is going to church your definition of what makes somebody a Christian?

Sissified is more like the word for this kid. His body has not even gone through puberty, how does he know? I know how he knows...because he saw it on TV and thinks its cool.

At 10 I was in charge of stacking firewood. I had three houses on the same property that I had to make sure had the day’s firewood stacked on the porch before I caught the school bus to school.

These kids sit around watching MTV and such other crap and think its cool to be gay.

I suppose one should not be surprised that the membership of school boards, by and large, cannot seem to distinguish between boys and girls and what have you - after all, they generally manage to display in their own public personnae simultaneously the less admirable aspects of both the pr*ck and the p*ssy.

Was allowing this kid to live as a girl part of recommended treatment by a Doctor/Psychiatrist?

Whats the disruption associated with having a boy in a dress and ruffled panties use the boys room?

South Park had a priceless take on this. Don’t know if you watch it, but there was an episode where Kyle decided he felt like a tall black man inside and Kyle’s dad decided he felt like a dolphin inside. It’s a simple but effective way of illustrating the craziness of things like this.

You can't ask teachers to quit unless there's somewhere else they and their students can go.

Unless students have the choice of using tax dollars to go to private, religious schools, the only ones that are go to them are the ones able to afford them.

You can't expect teachers to abandon their students, especially when there aren't jobs for them a private schools because there isn't enough students at the schools.

Students need school choice before they and Christian teachers have a chance of doing what you are suggesting. The teachers can't lead the way if the students are unable to follow.

Of course teacher-led liberal indoctrination of kids receives the stamp of approval from school districts:

Oakland teacher Elena Aguilar took most of her seventh-grade humanities class on an unusual field trip to San Francisco on Thursday to pack health supplies for Iraqis.

Along the way, her 30 or so students marched up and down Market Street carrying large photos of Iraqi children and accompanied by a rolling loudspeaker blaring the simulated sounds of jet fighters, bomb blasts and crying women.

"I wanted my students to understand that protest is not just violent but can be creative," said Aguilar, of ASCEND, a small, arts-oriented public school in Oakland.

There shouldn’t be any issue here. Is this a boy or a girl on the birth certificate?

If the school wants to allow this cr@p, let these confused children use the teacher’s restroom or have the district allocate money for an “everyone” bathroom. 1 toilet and 1 sink and 1 urinal. Don’t expect the girls or the boys who understand that their gender is pre-ordained and not a choice to have to bend for one confused family and this pc society.
