Thompson supporters fend off rivals as candidate pins much on SC

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - It doesn't matter to South Carolina state Republican David Hiott's colleagues that he's an avowed Fred Thompson supporter - his phone keeps ringing with pleas for him to get ready to jump ship.

Hiott says he will be with Thompson "until the bitter end" of his presidential campaign.

Hiott and other Thompson supporters in the early voting state say Statehouse colleagues for months have been trying to snare their support for other Republican candidates.

But they're sticking with the former Tennessee senator and actor. They say Thompson's conservative credentials and foreign policy experience will gain traction before Republicans head to the polls in South Carolina on Jan. 19.

Thompson announced Sunday that he would skip the final days of campaigning in New Hampshire in favor of launching an 11-day bus tour across South Carolina.

I’d prefer that when he wins it not be a surprise. But if it has to surprise everyone, then so be it.

Rush said today:
“My question for you evangelicals is this. If you’re looking for a real conservative, why are you supporting Huckabee? He’s completely discredited himself. What about Fred Thompson? If you’re looking for a real conservative. Huckabee is constantly engaging in class warfare against the producers. This laid-off line, it’s an attack on Romney, but it’s an attack on producers. It’s an attack on employers. It’s pure populism. He does oppose school choice! You don’t get the NEA endorsement in New Hampshire by supporting school choice.”

GO FRED!

Might not be necessary , Romney’s RSM attacks were going on against Fred before Fred even got into this race .

It might have worked , we will see ...

SC is all or nothing for Fred I’m afraid. He needs to expose Huck now.

Romney’s the next best choice, and after refusing to go for the kill on McCain for supporting amnesty, he’s shown unbelievable weakness that deeply disturbs me.

FIRE IN THE BELLY BUMP! I’VE GO FIRE IN MY BELLY...HOW ABOUT YOU? FRED WILL sweep South Carolina.

FRED THOMPSON - NATIONAL SECURITY EXPERIENCE (I’ll protect the American people and American values, whatever it takes to stop the Islamic-Fascists including water-boarding!) - 2ND AMENDMENT ADVOCATE (“Individual” rights to protect their homes and property!)

INCREASE THE MILITARY’S STRENGTH AND SIZE (Diplomacy through Strength and verification!)

SECURE AND SEAL THE BORDERS (Don’t give sanctuary anywhere to illegal’s; don’t employ illegal’s; don’t rent to illegal’s; don’t extend credit to illegal’s; don’t give illegal’s rights they have no right to; report all crimes committed by illegal’s to ICE and immediately deport those illegal’s who have already committed crimes against America!) LAW AND ORDER (Enforcement of our current laws regarding illegal immigration!) – DENY FEDERAL DOLLARS TO SANCTUARY CITIES (Enough is enough!)

CONSERVATIVE JUSTICES FOR SUPREMES (Great progress has been made on the Supreme Court in Bush’s term. FRED was asked by President Bush to spirit Justice Roberts through the confirmation process. The next President will probably have the opportunity to seat two additional Justices. This is huge folks. FRED will nominate Justices who will interpret the Constitution, not create rights that simply do not exist and legislate from the bench!) – PRO-LIFE ADVOCATE (will strive to nominate superior Justices with the eventual goal of overturning Roe vs Wade)

SOCIAL SECURITY REFORMER (Social Security is an entitlement program that will soon overtake the budget. The program can’t sustain itself and will bankrupt future generations; FRED has detailed proposals to save Social Security and provide the added benefit of private savings accounts for younger workers!)

DEFEAT ANY DEMOCRAT OR RINO (Close your eyes and imagine the first debate between FRED THOMPSON and ANY liberal DemocRAT they put up?)

TAX SIMPLIFICATION (Reform and perhaps eliminate the IRS with a variety of choice for the tax payer!)

EDUCATION (Return education to the States. It is that simple. The NEA is the greatest enemy of our educational system!)

WON’T PUT UP WITH TRUTH MANIPULATION FROM THE DB-MSM (including stupid questions by liberal moderators, and “purchased” political pundits)

FRED THOMPSON IS THE “WE THE PEOPLE” CANDIDATE (We the People asked him to set aside his personal life and step up one more time for his Country…and he stepped up!)

THIRD IN IOWA, SECOND IN WYOMING (MSM still calling it a tie with McCain’s name in the lead…FoxNews won’t even mention his name if they can find a way to avoid it!)

I expect that from the Romney campaign, it won’t be as honest and above-board as an attack ad.

I think we need a memorable lists of distinctions between Fred and the other candidates such as:

Fred is a champion of State's Rights Huckabee wants the Federal government to determine where people can smoke

Fred has pointed to the NEA Union as the biggest obstacle to improving education New Hampshire affiliate of the National Education Association endorsed Huckabee specifically because of his opposition to school vouchers

Fred repeatedly voted for tax cuts as US Senator Huckabee was ranked the 6th worst tax and spending governor by the Cato Institute and told the Arkansas Legislature that they "would have nothing but [his] profound thanks" for passing tax hikes

“Romney’s the next best choice, and after refusing to go for the kill on McCain for supporting amnesty, he’s shown unbelievable weakness that deeply disturbs me.”

And if that isn’t disturbing the “I like mandates” quote frightens the bejeebers out of me.

Yup, that was the other point I couldn’t remember. He seems close to Huck more than I care for, just hides it better until he’s pressed and it comes out.

When the independants break for Obama in a BIG WAY today in NH, it will expose McCains achille’s heel...Independants have always keep that dead water buffalo afloat...

Jimmy Carter II is going to be exposed for the flaming liberal he is. The pie-in-the-sky talk is going to be called on the carpet at every turn. Credit to the other liberal Romney for nailing Huckster on the numbers. He will have no momentum going in thanks to his debate performance and his lackluster performance in NH. It’s high-time for the pro-life John Edwards to bite the dust.

Fred will leave SC quite viable, thank you.

Rudy’s weakness could be exposed in Florida if independants vote for Obama in just the same manner McCain will be exposed today. Once it’s realized Rudy can’t win that game to make up for the loss of social-cons..there will be another shift.

And unfortuantely, Hunter will run out of money sometime before the election. Hopefully he throws in with Fred at that time.

I’m glad Hunter is sticking in because we need him to help expose these posers. And I’m ticked off at the GOP for putting a field like this up there. And for backing out of the Fox debate over Ron Paul but apparently NOT the ABC debate over Hunter...

Damn neocons. They like Mitt because they know he won’t tear down the big government that has been so carefully crafted over the last two terms.

“My question for you evangelicals is this. If you’re looking for a real conservative, why are you supporting Huckabee?...”

It’s a good question. Expect some evangelicals believe that because Huck’s a Southern Baptist, he’ll be a good president. Do they even remember Jimmah Carter and Bill Clinton — both Southern Baptists?

In truth, Fred should have been expending all his energies here for months. Historically, Iowa and New Hampshire are meaningless.

True, but because the media kept saying he was finished he was forced to prove his viability by making a decent showing in Iowa. The voters of SC have to be persuaded to believe in Fred and not what the MSM says about him.

I think Fred got the message(at least the first 2 points). He could have made a stronger case on the economy with the Cato study, but I’m thrilled he finally came out swinging.
