NEW YORK (MNA) An academic delegation of Columbia University professors and deans of faculties plans to visit Tehran to officially apologize to Iranian President Mahmud Ahmadinejad. The delegation plans to express regret for the insulting remarks Columbia University President Lee Bollinger directed at Ahmadinejad on September 24 in his introductory speech, the Mehr News Agency correspondent in New York reported.
Since the incident, the deans and professors from the faculties of history, anthropology, Middle Eastern studies, philosophy, and Islamic studies have criticized Bollingers behavior toward Ahmadinejad.
A member of the delegation, who requested anonymity, said the main goal of the visit is to meet the Iranian president and officially apologize to him.
The delegation has also prepared its itinerary, he noted.
He went on to say that the delegation also plans to visit Iranian universities in various cities and to hold talks with professors and students, and may even sign memoranda of understanding with some universities. He also said the delegation is interested in visiting seminaries and the shrine city of Qom.
However, Bollinger has warned the delegation that their trip to Iran should be a private visit and should not be undertaken as an official visit endorsed by the university.
Bollinger has so far refused to meet the Mehr News Agency correspondent to explain his disrespectful behavior toward Ahmadinejad when introducing him to the students and professors at Columbia.
Barf Alert!
“But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong.”
And I’m in academia.
they need to get moving if they expect to visit Iammadjohn while he is still in office.
Sure. If this were real they would list names of some in the delegation.
Please let this be satire.
If I were to ever pass by Columbia University, I will fart in its general direction.
Maybe they’ll use their visit as an opportunity to witness the foot and hand amputations being carried out as punishment for violation of Islamic law. Maybe they’ll implement them at Columbia for students who don’t display the proper ‘sensitivity’...
Give them one-way tickets
Ah, the dhimmi patrol strikes again. Well done, academia!

Why stop there? Why don’t you live there for a year and see what a utopian haven it is for anyone other than a Muslim?
No, its from an Iranian news agency.
Don't allow them back here.
If it takes a MANPAD.
‘A member of the delegation, who requested anonymity....’
This is a blogger moment, folks, right up there with the outting of Dan Rather’s forged documents in 04.
We need to OUT THESE PEOPLE. Names, pictures, titles.
The usual suspects. Presumably the Gay, Lesbian, and Transgender Studies department is otherwise occupied. Still, I'll believe it when I see it.
Coward.
He, as well as the rest of the delegation, know that what they are doing is tantamount to treason, and the response from Americans would be up-close, personal and overwhelmingly negative.
Doesn't the US have "no-travel" countries to which travel is forbidden? What happened to that?
If nothing else, their passports should all be lifted, assuming, of course, that they're not traveling on a foreign (muslim) passport...
There are, and have always been, restrictions on travel which borders on sedition and treason.
Thank god. I thought it might be true.
I thought even the far left had a wake up moment when this nutjob said there were no gays in Iran?
Even Arabs couldn’t make this up. It’s just too insane.
I thought what the Columbian president did was rude and wrong. But it’s over now and these feel-good types are more worried about manners than our national security. Too bad we can’t revoke their passports!
If a Columbia professor is taken hostage in Iran, does he make a sound?
Amen!
Someone, somewhere, must know who these doofuses are.
This A**clown changed his position, grandstanded in as obviously a pandering way as possible and now he wants to keep this visit ‘Private”. Let’s face it, the Intellectual Elites who make up the large majority of his and every other University in this Country are not so much pro-Iranian as they are Anti-US.
Why the posturing and facade to prevent the truth from being seen. I say let them go as an official delegation from the University. That would be at least intellectually honest.
The professors need to open a branch campus over there and stay to staff it.
Maybe he could set them up as guest in Tehran for 444 days.
I was going to write 'and a mistake was made and they would not be allowed back into our country. However I think the first comment would be the true punishment. If they love him so, let them live under his tyranny rule. Then they could not sue. lol.
But... make sure the tickets are one-way!

I swear I was looking for Scrappleface as the source...
Don’t let them back into America! They are traitors and an embarrassment to ALL Americans!!
they are going to apologize for something someone else said/
where do they get these idiot professors from?
Maybe one of those faculty should bring his openly gay boyfriend with him, then he can find out why Bollinger was talking about repression of homosexuals.

Exactly. And they KNOW what they are doing is WRONG, or they wouldn’t be asking for ‘anonymity’.
Fortunately, aside from these "professors" you have thin company. Sometimes, even at a national diplomatic level, one must call a spade a spade. Two examples should suffice.
FDR's "day of infamy" speech...
... and Ronald Reagan's "evil Empire" speech.
These world wasters of oxygen, animals on two legs, must know how most of the civilized world views them. They are every bit as contemptible, murdering and undesireable as any despotic mass-murdering nations of the past.
I, too, at first thought it was scrappleface.
If it’s true, then I hope the delegation doesn’t include any women or gays, or they may be in trouble.
here’s hoping for another hostage crisis. but i do not believe this story for a second.
Do us all a big favor and stay in Iran. cause from where I sit in my beat up body compliments of 20 plus years in he US Military. I gave you the freedom you spit on by going there so do America a big favor and stay there.

PS Take HildaBeast with you and forget to get her on the plane
OK.
I confess.
I failed to see the silver lining in this whole exercise.
Thanks for reminding me.
I thought that the Columbian president was extremely foolish to invite the Iranian president here. And that’s an understatement. He started out introducing him just fine, pointing out the problems with Iran. That’s completely legit. But he descended into silly personal attacks which made him look like the petty one. Had he continued on his facts-based discourse of Iranian problems, then yes, he would have been fine. He didn’t. And what he did was rude. But what these people are doing is even worse.
"Show me just what Mohammed brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached." - Manuel II Palelologus
Will they come back with or without their heads?
Cancel their passports while they’re in Tehran, deny them re-entry and let’s see how well they like living in a true theocracy.
“A member of the delegation, who requested anonymity, said the main goal of the visit is to meet the Iranian president and officially apologize to him.”
Was he/she dressed in a burqa? If this “distinguished” academic from such a “distinguished” citadel of higher learning were proud of such actions, why would you want to remain as anonymous as before you opened your mouth?
The answer is .... cowardice!
Columbia graduates: Seriously. Stop all contributions and support.
Surely you’re ashamed.
If the professors were detained, would anybody give rat’s ass?
