A 5-year-old boy was detained as "security risk" because he had the same name of someone on the TSA "No-Fly" list. The TSA had to conduct a full search of their persons and belongings. When his mother went to pick him up and hug him and comfort him during the proceedings, she was told not to touch him because he was a national security risk. They also had to frisk her again to make sure the little Dillinger hadn't passed anything dangerous weapons or materials to his mother when she hugged him.

I’m glad we federalized all those screeners. They’re so much more professional now.

You'd think an incident such as this would make people realize why Fourth Ammendment protections against unreasonable seach and seizure apply just a much today as they did 200 years ago. Even at airports.
But I doubt it.

Please be careful not to paint with such a broad brush. Are there idiots and folks at the TSA that have no business being there?? YES, Are they all stupid useless dropouts? No.
Having worked, and since left because of pitiful upper management, I can admit its many many faults. But there are some really good people there trying their level best to do an impossible job, a job they are told to do, NO matter what, by a inflexible management that has passed down very poor policy.

TV clip the other day of someone frisking Muhammed Ali the other day. Black guy going all over him, who Ali sat down and what appeared to be his daughter stood by him. Didn’t catch what airport this was. What a total piece of crap. The man has Parkinson’s-—not a Remington.

I had an ex-girlfriend that wanted to take a bottle of wine and a bottle of shampoo on an airplane last year. I told her they would take them. She tried anyways. Assumed she could look cute, ask nicely and then act insulted...worked everywhere else in her life, why not there? lol

I agree. I travel all the time and rarely have problems with the TSA except at small to medium airports like SDF and DSM where they seem to take their job a little too seriously. But the blame goes squarely on the Bush Administration who not only created the TSA..but instituted the whole level orange/red/yellow crap. Not to mention the hideous rule that noone can carry on more than 3oz of liquids and it must be in a resealable 1 quart sized plastic bag--I feel so much safer.
To: Fast Ed97
BTW I heard today that we are still at “Level Orange.” Is there any talk of it going to Yellow anytime soon?

I get the impression that AIDS is doing to Africa what the Black Plague did to Europe — change the whole social structure. After the Plague had its run, Europe saw the beginning of an affluent culture because there were fewer people in society with more goods. And cleanliness/fastidiousness was the prevailing survival skill. With AIDS, maybe an after effect of affluence might happen, and the prevailing survival skill will be faithfulness.

In other words, the TSA is your ordinary run-of-the-mill federal bureaucracy.
You've just described every federal agency I've come in contact with. Some good people trying their best, some people putting in their time and a significant number of total incompetents. Led by inflexible management that enforces a very rigid and very poor policy, bordering on insane.
Why we should turn health care over to an organization like this escapes me.

I agree, the TSA is filled with officious idiots — or maybe that’s just plain incompetent idiots. I recently flew out of Atlanta. My driver’s license is in a clear plastic pocket in the front of my wallet. With every other TSA checker, all I’ve had to do was hold up my wallet, the checker looks at my license and waves me through. Not so here. I had to take it out of the pocket so that this bonehead could inspect it, front and back.
All the while, one of her co-workers was dozing off at the x-ray screen.
I kid you not.
