CAMP LEJEUNE, N.C. - A 20-year-old pregnant Marine who was expected to testify about something she witnessed on base has been missing since mid-December, authorities said.

The Marine Corps said Wednesday it is cooperating fully with the Onslow County Sheriff's Office in the disappearance of Lance Cpl. Maria Lauterbach, who is about eight months pregnant.

The sheriff's office has said Lauterbach's mother reported that her daughter was supposed to testify about an on-base incident.

"There are several findings and pieces of evidence that have been discovered that cause law enforcement to be concerned with the circumstances surrounding Maria's disappearance," the sheriff's department said in a statement.

Sheriff's investigators did not return calls seeking additional comment Wednesday, and it was not clear what Lauterbach was expected to say in testimony.

It’s hard to imagine an 8 month pregnant leatherneck storming Omaha Beach... but maybe we need them to babysit any enemy POW’s that are under the age of 13...

What was she suppose to testify about?

No one seems to have any information on the nature of the incident concerning which she was to testify.

She is pregnant, she is missing, and the police have found her abandoned cell phone and her car.

No one has spoken to her in four weeks.

The chances of her or her child being alive are very slim.

Your right, but she can free up a paperpusher who CAN storm the beaches instead of sitting behind a desk all day.

Where can I go to bet $50 that someone from DailyKos or Air America will claim Karl Rove or Halliburton murdered her because she has bootleg copies of the “torture tapes?”

Marine and “Pregnant” just don’t seem to go together.

On the other hand, just think how tough her kid will be.

My sister has a 1 yearold son. She is also a Marine reservist instructor pilot.

All y’all running down pregnant marines, grow up. It is not that big a deal for a Marine to hold down a desk job for a year for medical reasons.

My Navy brother and my Nat’l Guard daughter both got completely fed up with enlisted women who got knocked up to avoid deployments. And in the factory, many of us get fed up with doing the maternity-leave FMLA ladies’ work for the months they’re out, and getting nothing for it when they return to the job we’ve been holding for them.

You would be absolutely AMAZED at the number of non-deployable servicemembers at any given moment. A very large percentage of those are pregnancy-related. Very tough to deploy a unit when key staff still hold that position but cannot be deployed. I’ve seen entire S-1 and S-2 staff sections that couldn’t go to war because of pregnancies.

Women get pregnant, but pregnant servicemembers should not be allowed to retain a deployable billet.

I have the same problem with this PC military stuff. New recruits should be required to take implants for the first six years of active duty.

B.A.M. = Broad A$$ Marines.

They do a lot of work, but cause more problems than they are worth. BEEN THERE DONE THAT....and if you haven’t don’t flame me about the truth.

When little girls start playing with guns, instead of dolls, maybe they should join the USMC. Until then, stay out of my Marine Corps.

Excuse me dear one...I didn’t “run down” any Marine.
No one on FR should run down our military. And BTW....I am a supporter of our soldiers in every way. ;-)

But saying pregnant and Marine is just sort of opposite one another.
I’m not going to argue about it though.....;-)
