Arab lecturer forbids student from wearing Star of David

Sapir College instructor who gained notoriety when he refused to teach a student wearing an IDF uniform in spotlight once more after student claims he barred display of Israeli flag in his classroom, berated her for wearing Star of David necklace

Matan Zuri Published: 01.11.08, 12:06 / Israel News

Cinematography lecturer Nizar Hassan is still on suspension from him academic duties at the Sapir College in southern Israel pending a hearing on his divisive decision to bar a student wearing an IDF uniform from his class – but a new controversy has already reared its head and is further threatening the Hassan's future at the institute.

The letter, penned by a third-year student who attended a director's workshop taught by Hassan, was sent to the committee investigating the reserve soldier's case and may be used to prove the lecturer's behavior towards the reserve soldier was not an isolated incident.

According to the unnamed student identified only as A', she arrived at one of Hassan's classes with a backpack embroidered with the Israeli flag and was promptly asked by the lecturer to turn the bag so that the flag would not be facing him.

"I told him I would not do that – and then he approached me, grabbed the bag and forcefully turned it around," writes A' in her letter, which was also sent to College President Prof. Ze'ev Tzahor.

"When Hassan went back to the front of the class, I returned the bag to its original position, he then came back and turned it again. I picked the bag up a last time and spun it around.

"Nizar stopped the class, walked up to me, forcibly took the bag away from me and stuffed it into his desk."

But the heated battle over the flag was not A's only complaint. According to her letter, she met in private with Hassan some time later to discuss a documentary film she intended to direct. During the meeting the lecturer commented on the Star of David necklace A' was wearing.

"He asked me why I would even wear something like that. I answered that I view it as a Zionist matter. He then told me that he refused to see me wearing the necklace during the meeting," she wrote.

A' notes in her letter that prior to the aforementioned incidents she held Hassan in the highest respect and had a great affinity for his classes. "Hassan, with his charisma, was a great influence on me. Sometimes he would call me after classes to ask how the lecture had gone and he always praised me and my abilities. I remember several occasions where I sat with Nizar and he would analyze my personality instead of my work," she says.

But speaking with Yedioth Aharonoth on Thursday evening, A' sounded outraged. "I don't understand why he isn't kicked out of the college, I sincerely hope that they understand that he has no business teaching there because he crossed the line. He must not be allowed to come back."

The Sapir College said in response that the student's complaint is being dealt with by the school's disciplinary committee. Hassan declined to comment on the allegations.

Rhetorical question: Why would an Israeli college allow an anti-Israel professor to teach/be on the staff in the first place? Surely there are qualified Israeli cinematography professors somewhere in Israel!

The Ad Council tells me that "Our strength is our diversity".

And there are some FReepers who go on and on about how great the work of Nazi propagandist Leni Riefenstahl is.

....."Why would an Israeli college allow an anti-Israel professor"......

Because there are self hating Jews, just as there are self hating Americans, self hating blacks, self hating Christians, etc. They are called liberals.

They have clouded good and evil, wrong and right so long, they make no distinction.

And there are some FReepers who go on and on about how great the work of Nazi propagandist Leni Riefenstahl is.

Her work was great, nay superb. That's why she got the job as Nazi propagandist. The two facts are not contradictory.

Why would the Nazis use someone incompetent? Why would Riefenstahl's cinema technique be considered an ineffective technique, just because it was used for evil purposes?

Nazi - and Soviet - iconography were both amazing. Their style and image were pretty much all these socialist movements had to offer, but we can't say their iconography was bad. It was awesome, inspiring and remains so even today. That's what made it dangerous, of course.

Yes, very effective. That’s what’s so scary (as you state).

Someday I hope to get a subtitled copy of “Triumph of the Will”. I’m just amazed so many so willingly submitted to such a man. He definitely was the prime example of what the Antichrist will eventually be.

The world loves style and packaging. That’s what’s amazing about islam. The frightening part is plainly seen in the words. And they are not hard to understand. But I meet a stunning amount of people who just shrug it off.

Or this---Why would a US college allow an anti-US professor to teach/be on saff in the first place?

Short, easy, answer--because both are run by leftists eaten up with PC.

The third time this clown grabbed “A”’s bag, it would have been nice if about ten guys got up and threatened to give the professor an impromptu indoor flying lesson.

If he can’t get past his obvious prejudice, he has no business teaching a college class-—anywhere.

God must have had liberals in mind when he inspired this passage:

Isaiah 5:20
Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness, who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter.

Fritz Lang was offered the job and he left the country. There are people who use their talents for evil.

I would say that there are other examples of cinematography and editing that can be studied. If propaganda is to be examined, it should be deconstructed and rebuked. Those films may “look nice” but they tell lies.

There is “live” tv footage of the the same events Leni shot (Olympics, rallies). They don’t have nearly the impact but her films are seen as the “historical” record. The Nazis used a film process to broadcast early television (the film was processed in camera and that film was used for the tv signal in a delayed by live broadcast; those films sit in vaults).

Mohammed is an antiChrist figure if not the...

His is the faith of a deceiver. His is the only major religion to acknowledge the existence of Jesus Christ while at the same time denying His divinity, His death, and His resurrection. Mohammed was a conquering warlord who’s heirs have waged wars and enslaved men women and children for over a thousand years.

I remember that scene in “Saving Private Ryan” when an American soldier stands next to a long line of NAZI prisoners waving a Star of David at them saying “Juden, Juden”

This jerk should get the same treatment.

ENOUGH of these damn Islamofacists.

He certainly was of the antichrist spirit according to the Epistles of John. And birthed the most clearly, doctrinally-based antichrist religion since the Advent of Christ. And his antichrist accomplishments are staggering.

That being said, I still think that as the Apostle Paul says Satan appears as an angel of light and Daniel says (speaking of the Antichrist I believe) that “by peace shall destroy many” (8:25), I think we’re going to get a man of “peace”, “solving” the Israeli-Palestinian problem, promoting “unity” among “faiths” (denying the Uniqueness of the Gospel), and of course, the obligatory “we all worship the same god” thing.

And then ... he is revelead for who he really is ... as the Apostle Paul says “... sits in the Temple of God showing himself that he is “god” ...”

And then it’s Jeremiah 30:7, etc. IMHO

That's an outstanding idea. Legend has it that the entire country of Denmark did it to show solidarity with their Jewish population after the Nazis ordered its wearing. Snopes calls that legend "false in specifics but true in spirit, because nevertheless, the efforts and attitudes of the Danes when it came to protection of their Jewish population was inspirational.

I remember that scene in “Saving Private Ryan” when an American soldier stands next to a long line of NAZI prisoners waving a Star of David at them saying “Juden, Juden”

I've actually never seen the movie. May just rent it now.

Ern,

Your comment reminded me of a scene in “Blazing Saddles”, near the end, where Dom DeLouise is directing a bunch of gay guys in top hats and tuxes in a spectacular dance number.

Mayhem ensues when the fighting cowboys spill over onto the musical’s set, and Dom gets smacked.

And one guy goes to the other”They hit Buddy!(Dom) Let’s go, girls!”

Still cracks me up.

Think the class was like that? I was hoping even weenie men would stand up for the symbol of their country and their faith.

At least Mel Brooks’ weenies fought!

I’m of the notion that Islam MUST be declaimed as a religion and then FORCEFULLY disenfranchised, at least here in USA.

Because it is a fascist political idealogy along with Communism and Nazism and marxistLiberalism, it must be outlawed and its adherants required to verifiably recant or leave America, sooner than ASAP.

As harsh as this may sound, what national and cultural security can be insured when we allow our enemies to safely reside and prosper in our midst. All the while actively efforting to destroy USA.
It will come to this because it MUST, if we are to survive.
