“Only because hillary and Barrack decided to announce half a year earlier than usual.”

Exactly. Fred wasn’t late. They were early.

A brokered convention is a guaranteed Dem”

Quite right.

Votes are cast like two months after the convention.

In a nation of 300 million people, that would be fatal for a presidential campaign.

The media has their collective foot on Fred’s head, yet wonders when he will get going. Screw them! They are the enemy!

From the Blogosphere ( Flopping Aces):

Fred “The Natural” Thompson
Posted by: Curt @ 8:48 pm in Fred Thompson|

*****************************EXCERPT*********************************

Work took me away from watching the debate so all I can gauge how it went on is other bloggers and man o’ man, does it look like Fred took it or what? The best take on it tonight comes from Jim Geraghty:

Tonight, Fred Reminded Me of Roy Hobbs.

Winner: Thompson. This performance was so commanding, I wanted his last answer to echo back to the lights in the back of the auditorium, blow out all the lamps and spotlights, for the theme to “the Natural” to play, and for him to trot around the stage in slow motion while sparks showered down in the background.

Classic!

Even Mitt Romneys biggest cheerleader, Hugh Hewitt, called it for Fred:

Fred had a great night, Mitt a good one and Rudy did fine as well.

Michelle Malkin:

The debate is finished. Fred will be declared the clear winner. There are a lot of folks on our side of the blogosphere who were pulling for him. He delivered his one-liners better than anyone else. He aggressively attacked Huckabee, showed humor, and looked comfortable on stage.

Mark Levin:

Fred … win, place and show.

Huckster: "If you're not taking flak, you're not over the target."

Gomer, that's not "flak." Those are 1000lb bombs bracketing your sorry, socialist ars.

From the Blogosphere(Captain's Quarters):

******************EXCERPT***********************

Captain’s Quarters:

Who put the vitamins in Fred Thompson’s oatmeal? We have waited for Thompson to show up on the campaign trail, and tonight he finally did. He had energy, focus, a command of detail, and a willingness to finally engage with the other candidates on the stage. He took almost everyone else aback, and seized momentum that he only occasionally relinquished.

~~~
UPDATE: Fred ate more Wheaties between the debate and his appearance on Hannity & Colmes. He’s smacking Alan Colmes around on Iraq and Iran. He’s looking for battles and winning them. It’s pretty amazing.
Fox didn't do so well ...from the Blogosphere(CQ again):
Will Fox Ask Paul About The Newsletters In Tonight's Debate? (Bumped:CNN Reports)
*************************EXCERPT***************************
UPDATE & BUMP, 4:30 pm: CNN's covering this now. They've also got their copies of the newsletters, and are quoting freely. David Gergen is saying that they should be "totally ventilated", meaning that they should get the widest possible dissemination. Matt Welch looked pretty uncomfortable answering for the candidate. Paul's staff says they won't try to find the authors.
Paul then got interviewed by Wolf Blitzer, and Paul says it's coming up now "for political reasons". "Everybody knows ... I'm not a racist." He says that libertarianism doesn't mesh with racism. Now he says that he gets the most black votes in the race, presumably among Republicans. Wolf is allowing Paul to soliloquize here. "67% of blacks are in prison"? I think he's confusing statistics here.
Who wrote it? "I have no idea". He says a publisher has no idea what appears in their publications. "Why don't you believe me?" Wolf is acting pretty much like a potted plant here, as Paul monologues without taking much of a breath.
Ha! He did get Paul to state that he never read his own newsletters. Now he's calling it a "witch hunt". Excuse me? These are his newsletters! Wolf now is saying what a great guy Paul is. Not exactly hard-hitting interviewing here. He's not asking the key question here: how did these statements go on in his newsletters for 17 years without Paul noticing it, and how that kind of incompetence -- if he didn't know his own organization was regularly disgorging this despicable material -- reflects on his ability to run a nation.
Very disappointing. Let's hope Fox does a better job of making Paul answer those questions.
UPDATE II: Bryan at Hot Air is also left unimpressed with the softballs tossed by Blitzer at Paul:
“Huckster: “If you’re not taking flak, you’re not over the target.”
That statement got to me too, it makes no sense in a GOP debate...maybe against the dims, but not against a conservative who is highlighting his liberal traits.
The MSM will drum on "Republican Disarray" whether it exists or not, just to push their Liberal agenda/Candidate.
The ONLY Republicans you hear about on the MSM are those that can't defeat the Hildabeast, and they nearly were CHOKING in admitting FRed won last night's debate, while their RINO favorites were upstaged.
I've been watching it too and the dollars and friends numbers have really taken off since the debate. I hope it's a sign of things to come!
"ONLY true if the candidate to face the Hildabeast is a RINO....then, she wins easily, as conservatives are tired of Republicans who have no balls."
I agree. How many threads have we FReepers devoted to whining over Republican eating their own? Or W bending over backwards to pacify the Dims?
Either we are conservative or we are not. Clinton and the Dims have built their collective 'house' on sand (and smoke and mirrors), IMHO. Did we as well?
If the Republican candidate ultimately is NOT a strong Conservative, then the Republican Party will be on the short end for the next 8-10 years, and possibly for the forseeable future. The Party has caved in to the Democrats “bi-partisan” B.S., where “working together” means vacating principle, which Reagan NEVER did, and after him, we had RINO after RINO cave on values, and that’s when we lost our compass....
Is it me, or has FOX become Fred friendly in the past week and a half?
The bias is visible in odd ways. Right after the debate the Luntz focus group enthusiastically backed Thompson. He was the clear winner, the best debater, the most energetic, etc. Only 2 people backed him before and 14 hands went up after. Then a commercial break and Hannity talk. When they went back to Luntz the group was far more subdued. One woman who was excited before now said Fred "did ok, but it's too late", and many others said also it was "too little too late". Did Fox tell them to temper their answers during the break? It is well known there is bad blodd between Fox and Fred because Fred hired and then fired a senior Fox producer late last year.
I suspect: (1) they were losing viewers and (2) you can only ignore an elephant in the room so long.
(3)They've lost faith in Rudy's 'Big State Strategy'.
