(NBC's Lawrence) O'Donnell's Lunacy Continues (says John Edwards is racist just for staying in race)
Captain's Quarters ^ | Jan. 11, 2008 | Ed Morrissey

Posted on 01/11/2008 12:03:36 PM PST by jdm

NBC correspondent Lawrence O'Donnell has been losing it for the last four years, but he usually restricts his extreme bombast for Republicans. He wouldn't allow John O'Neill (actually a Democrat) speak in a 2004 television appearance, screaming "Creepy liar" over him whenever O'Neill tried to respond. Just recently he let loose a barrage of anti-Mormon bigotry when discussing Mitt Romney. Now, however, O'Donnell aims his strange ire at John Edwards, whom he accuses of racism for staying in the primaries:

John Edwards is a loser. He has won exactly two elections in his life and lost 31. Only one of his wins and all of his losses were in presidential primaries and caucuses. He remains perfectly positioned to continue to lose with a Kucinich-like consistency. Nothing but egomania keeps Edwards in the race now. All presidential candidates are egomaniacs but some of them have party status worth preserving that forces them to drop out when they hit the wall. A loser like Edwards has no status or dignity to lose. Campaigning and losing is his life. So, he will continue his simple-minded, losing campaign and deny Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton the one-on-one contest they deserve.

If John Edwards stays in the race, he might, in the end, become nothing other than the Southern white man who stood in the way of the black man. And for that, he would deserve a lifetime of liberal condemnation.

Wow. Just ... wow. I hold no brief for John Edwards, and think he's a political loser myself, as O'Donnell labels him. He's not going to win the nomination, and his continued presence in the race exemplifies his self-involvement more than anything else.

But to suggest that Edwards' failure to withdraw constitutes racism as O'Donnell clearly implies is nothing short of insane. Does O'Donnell believe that Obama's presence in the primaries requires all other candidates to withdraw to prove that they're not racist? In fact, isn't the suggestion that Obama can't win this on his own without people throwing the election a racist notion in and of itself? At the very least, it's offensively paternalistic.

Jane Smiley, also at the HuffPo, offers O'Donnell some sage advice: shut up, Larry. She should have added: seek some help.

No, your correct, but it is getting worse...i.e. more obvious.

>>>>NBC correspondent Lawrence O’Donnell

He is not a reporter, correspondent, news producer of any of the like. He is liberal political commentator, paid to bring his left-wing ideas to the air, just as Ann Coulter is paid to present our points.

O’Donnell is also a Hollywood writer and producer of “West Wing.”

Of course, he is also a crass, rude idiot, while Ann is Mother Theresa in gown.

Why don’t we just end the election and have the first affirmative action president? I don’t have any love for Edwards, but this is ridiculous. On a related note, I cruised over to DU the other day just to see what was going on. They are mostly big Edwards fans over there. I’m sure they won’t be liking these comments.

"Hillary will not like this one bit!"

The Drive-Bys will make a exception for the Hill. She and BHO are the only two reasonable candidates. Otherwise, this election is merely a hateful expression of Racist/Sexist America.

Yep, everything is a conspiracy with them and everyone has alterior motives. Unfortunately, I see that on FR too. I’m probably guilty of it myself at times.

Could it be that Clinton sock puppet Lawrence O’Donnell is merely trying to deflect hits Hillary is currently receiving because of her insensitive civil rights comments...........deflect the hits from her over to Edwards.........sounds like Clinton SOP........

Democrats are all about entitlements on every level.
The idea that Obama is somehow entitled to be the nominee because of his race is such a sad comment on the state of Democratic politics.
It’s as bad as Gloria Steinem’s Op-Ed this week basically saying that is shouldn’t be based on race as much as gender because women have suffered for their gender more than minorities have suffered for their race. It’s nauseating. It seems to be all about victimhood.
I suspect that most Americans, regardless of party or persuasion, are disgusted by such statements.
I will vote for anyone, regardless of race or gender, if they are honest, intelligent, and I agree with their politics. I will not vote for anyone simply because the look like me. To say otherwise is un-American.

I love it. Hey John, the people over at Fox News would never stoop so low and you’re hellbent on boycotting them? This Obama and Hillary race may turn out to be our saving grace in 2008. One way or the other, the party is going to be ripped apart if this gets any nastier.

Just one little chromosome away from being another Rosie O’Donnell. Retardation must run in that family.

Maybe Edwards doesn’t believe in affirmative action! :)
But seriously, the stuff we’re hearing about him lately, from his own party, would seem to suggest he’s toast. Possibly not masculine enough (ya think?) to be credible.
The Kerry endorsement of Obama was one of the bigger nails in his coffin, although it will probably hurt Obama as well. Now this out of O’D.
And then, Edwards aside, there was Bubba making remarks that Donna Brazile considers unsavory.
The Dems appear to be in disarray.

For some unknown reason I switched over to MSNBC just to see what was being reported at that time. Now I can’t remember the last time I have been to that network, but the Abrams report was on, the guest was Lawrence O’Donnell and some lady loon from Air America.

The insanity of the conversation overwhelmed me in the first three minutes. I brushed my teeth, gargled, took a scalding hot shower, prayed for forgiveness for almost an hour and went straight to bed. They talk about Fox news being one sided, but if this is what you hear day after day, and you fall for this stuff without thinking on your own, you would think life is over and want to kill yourself, the children and the goldfish.

No wonder we are so divided, and to think this was all we had for what, some 40 years or more? It was probably not this bad in the past since we only had one side, and now you clearly see the desperation of networks because they are losing revenue and customers. Since I get all of my info from the net and like minded sources I was thinking that I was not getting the whole story, but I will not stray again, at least not without some protection. :-)

Funny, I've heard a theory that Edwards is really angry with Hillary (didn't hear why), and is staying in the campaign, in order to take her out. If he stays in all the way to the convention, then throws his support to Obama, that just might do the trick.

Hmmm, I wonder if either of these hare-brained theories is correct. :-)
