NASHUA – A top Clinton adviser faces charges of aggravated driving while intoxicated after city police caught him speeding through Greeley Park a day before the state primary.

Sidney Blumenthal, longtime friend and senior adviser to presidential candidate Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, D-N.Y. was allegedly driving a rented car north on Concord Street at a speed of 70 mph when Nashua Police Sgt. Mike Masella decided to stop it at about 12:30 a.m. Monday.

-snip-

Blumenthal was arrested after completing the test and taken to the police department where he refused to take a breath test and was booked on a charge of aggravated driving while intoxicated, Masella said.

I doubt that word made it to the newspapers. I’m a retired LEO from NH, and have had contact with many politicians passing through—either through traffic violations or security details. It’s easy for these things to slip through the cracks unless the department issues a press release or someone inside the department makes a phone call.

Thank you for the inside view.

I am very surprised, though, that telephone call wasn't made. This is one of the most prominent men in the U.S. on the eve of a very widely watched political event in which he was a very active participant.

When you’re around these politicians all the time, it’s no big deal. The only one who I really enjoyed seeing and protecting was Reagan. The Bushes, especially 41, are decent and authentic men.

These guys are a dime a dozen at primary time. The news coverage makes them seem larger than life, but up close, they’re not much different than the small-time politician running for city council.

Everyone in town will hear this through the grapevine and it will be more accurate. Much more effiecient.

This is a free and vigorous press?

In my local newspaper, about twice a week, there is a listing of the arrests that all the agencies have made for the previous few days. Now, one would think that this listing is made available on a daily basis to the paper.

Question then becomes, is this information also available in Nashua?

Sandy Berger stole documents intended for the 9/11 Commission from the National Archives. You never read about that, either. These Washington people, both in politics and the press, take care of their own.

12:30 AM on Monday. So he was getting plastered on Sunday night.

It's a coverup, pure and simple. Only 2 media outlets in the entire U.S. have reported Sid Blumenthal's arrest.

From the article:...Speaking at a White House event, Clinton said that a national drunken driving standard should be set by Congress at a 0.08 percent blood alcohol level. In New York, where Mrs. Clinton is running for the U.S. Senate, the standard is a more lenient 0.10 percent. "It only takes a split second for a tragedy to occur," she said. Clinton was participating for the fourth year in the Mothers Against Drunk Driving's (MADD) "Tie One on For Safety" campaign, which encourages people to tie a special ribbon on their cars reminding them to choose a designated driver. This is the 14th year MADD has sponsored the campaign.

FWIW since I count vouch for the accuracy, from this link....

New Hampshire DWI Calculator

Because of your refusal to take an alcohol test your driver's license will be suspended for 180 days.

If convicted you will be fined a minimum of $500. Your driver’s license will be revoked for a minimum of 1 year up to a maximum of 2 years.

That's assuming this webite and the articles are accurate and Swamp Thing has no prior history.

Here is where the irresponsible jerk was pulled over, just so nobody thinks he was driving one of those deserted roads that people routinely break the speed limit on...this is heavily populated, and near a school.

Jeez...do ya think he was within the distance from the school that if they found any...ahem...drugs on him, that it would be a felony?
