SACRAMENTO -- — The state's ability to protect children, renters, workers and the elderly as well as California's wildlife and its land would be impeded under Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger's proposals for closing a $14.5-billion deficit, state agency reports show.

The proposed budget reductions, which Schwarzenegger submitted this week to the Legislature, would erode public protection programs across state government, according to hundreds of pages of assessments that agencies submitted along with the budget this week.

Schwarzenegger decided to spread the pain across all areas of government, forcing most agencies to prepare to cut a tenth of their spending. Advocates for many of those areas said relatively small reductions would have a significant effect on the state's ability to enforce its laws and protect its citizens.

What about pregnant women and minorities? Otherwise their list is pretty complete. White males get off scot-free again.

The gove let this spending get out of control by not challenging the dims earlier. He didn't have the votes and needed SOME KIND OF BUDGET.

He got what he could out of those guys...and THEN went to the dark side with them.

Seems he's now back to doing the right thing...10% across the board cuts. No new taxes (though he's sneaking in a few new "fees".

The CA teacher and Public Employee unions are apoplectic. Full coniption I tell ya...

We can't do without government! A 10% cut and civilization is out of the window! California has a $100 billion budget and it can't survive on $10 billion less! WAAAAAAAAAAAAH WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH WAAAAAAH!

Where are all those FReepers that supported & voted for RINOld in 2003?

Some got kicked off the payroll after their job in selling Arnie was done. Some got banned after being outed as leftist trolls. Others got banned after posting similar lies and mistruths in support of Giuliani. Some have returned under new screennames but are not quite as bold in their zeal to support their RINO--yet. And so it goes...

The question that must be asked: Where did someone develop the idea that the state was going to be able to help and protect those “in need” regardless of economic conditions?

I’ll believe it when the pain spreads to the State Assembly and Senate. Let’s see them cut back on their budgets funding their booze, free wheels, drugs, hookers and meals. Until then, it’s the tired old scam in which the politicians first attack the necessary pubic services in order to inflict the most pain on the citizenry. That way, they can enact tax increases to “alleviate the pain.”
