Republican Primary in New York: McCain Fights to Unravel Giuliani "Big State" Strategy -- In a Republican Primary today in Rudolph Giuliani's home state of New York, 01/11/08, 25 days to the 02/05/08 vote, Giuliani is in a tight fight with John McCain, according to a SurveyUSA poll conducted for 7 New York state media outlets. Among all Republican Primary voters, it's Giuliani 32%, McCain 29%, within the survey's 4.6% margin of sampling error. Mike Huckabee is 3rd at 12%, Mitt Romney, Fred Thompson and Ron Paul are further back. Giuliani leads by 11 points in New York City and leads by 5 points in the NYC suburbs. McCain leads by 4 points Upstate. Giuliani leads by 17 points among voters voters age 49 and younger. McCain leads by 12 among voters age 50+. McCain leads by 9 among Moderates. Giuliani leads by 6 among Conservatives. Huckabee gets 18% among Conservatives, 18% among Pro-Life voters. Republicans who think the Economy is the most important issue back McCain 33% to 28%. Those who say Terrorism is most important back Giuliani 40% to 26%.
I think what gut shot Rudy was the corruption stories that came out in December about his special treatment of his gal pal. Seemed to take the wind out of his sails, and it looks like he’s not coming back.
Which is why I would NEVER vote for McPain. I would at least CONSIDER voting for the other rinos matched up against shrillery. But if it's McPain I'm defintely voting 3rd party.
Well, they did get their Saint.
And his name is Huck who is RUNNING on a liberal/populist campaign, and winning.
So ironic, and laughable if it were not so serious.
If the republicans don’t have two conservatives for President and Vice President on the ticket this year, I will be forced to write in Amos N’ Andy as my choice.
Look, John McCain is NOT my first choice.
But I will take ANYONE - ANYONE - over the man who will instantly revert to form and work to destroy most of the issues and causes I believe in the moment he gets the power to do so: Rudy Giuliani.
There have been few greater enemies to Pro-Lifers, Gun Owners, Traditional families supporters, et al, than Rudy Giuliani. Before he had his sights set on the most powerful seat in the world, he used to brag openly of those things.
We KNOW where McCain dissents - we know how to fight him. We will have to be on guard on a few issues, granted. But it’s better than fighting a battle on the 7,000,000 or so fronts we’d have to fight Rudy while being shouted down at every turn that “it’s a time of war, stop opposing the President! Do you want the terrorists to win?!?!?” - not to mention the 100% certain fact that he’d appoint Pro-Roe, yet generally Republican, judges (he probably already knows them by name). Make no mistake - NARAL’s “Champion of Choice” will NOT let history measure him as the President who overturned Roe v. Wade. John McCain WANTS Roe overturned - both by personal belief, and because he’s part of the GOP guard who want it overturned just so they don’t have to deal with Abortion as a Federal issue anymore.
McCain is far, far from ideal - but he’s UNIVERSES better than Rudy Giuliani.
The only question is why doesn’t Thompson or Huckabee have an office here in NY-anyone know?

I’m no fan of Guiliani, but at least he’s honest about his socially liberal positions. To my knowledge, he’s not trying to remake himself into something he’s not. I don’t support him, but I respect him.
McLame, on the other hand, is a sellout who repeatedly sided with Democrats. He’s worse than Guiliani in that McPain is trying to deceive voters about issues like immigration. He’ll sell us out in a heartbeat if elected.

Because the Rudophiles changed the primary to “winner take all” in an effort to rig the system and try and impose Rudy on the whole GOP by giving him extra delegates.
So unless you have a serious chance of winning NY over the native son, there was little point in being there. Thompson and Huckabee would be wasting time and money - only McCain and Rudy should be there.

I notice the two most DNC/MSM and liberal loving candidates, McCain and Hillary are leading in NYC.
Very telling.
But
1)Immigration.
2)Taxes.
3)Torture and Gitmo.
Three strikes and out, and I’m not counting his snotty public remark that I would not pick lettuce for 50 bucks an hour here.
And I’m not saying that I will not reverse my opinion and vote anyway, but it would a take a real suspension of disbelief at this stage.

He’s suddenly “Okay” if Roe gets overturned (yeah, right).
He suddenly opposes CFR now - a position he has switched ON THIS VERY CAMPAIGN. Not kidding!
And the man who constantly sued to oppose Conservative legislation, sued to stop Welfare Reform, sued Gun Manufacturers, and so on and so forth - is now a judicial Conservative and a Federalist.
He’s been trying to remake himself this entire campaign - even switching position on a few issues on this VERY CAMPAIGN. He even switched positions on the gun lawsuit HE FILED.
If he were honest, he’d be talking about his plans to declare “Roe v. Wade Anniversary Day” and “Planned Parenthood Day” as President, just like he did in New York. And then he give us his new list of lawsuits against gun owners and manufacturers to “stop crime.”
Yeah, look at the bright side:
If McCain somehow DID end up as President, the stress will turn him into a one-termer, if that.
Which makes the issue of who McInsane would pick as his VP MOST critical.

So what? Even if he’s better, and I don’t think he is, we have no reason to vote for either of them. Let’s cross that bridge when (if) we come to it.
1.) Agreed. But he obviously knows it won’t pass - even Bush couldn’t get Amnesty passed and he fought tooth and nail. Besides, he’s still got a better record on it than Rudy.
2.) Taxes? Come on - he supports the cuts. And clearly he wanted spending cuts and tried to leverage for it - look at his OVERALL record on taxes: he’s solid. I mean seriously, there is no real, substantive evidence that John McCain is bad on taxes or spending.
3.) Yup, he’s dead wrong. Too personal for him.
Again, I’m not saying McCain deserves your support — I’m simply saying that McCain is better than Rudy, hands down. I’m not saying anything more than that.

But I will still work tirelessly to stop Rudy while I can.
Why would anyone consider ever voting again for a rino or third party canidate after the '06 election? If you people haven't learned by now either to work to elect a conservative, or just not vote, and let the republican party know you will not vote if they do not promote a conservative canidate, then our party is lost this election.
Your way of thinking is why we have rino's in the first place. NO MORE RINO'S!

It's not surprising the Rudester might flop in NY---even blase new Yorkers were disgusted at the way Mayor Rooty conducted his personal life.
Plus New Yorkers said "no way" when Rooty tried to rig NY elections to keep himself in office after his term was up (after 9/11).
Giuliani's viability is tanking from the scandals attached to his name. Giuliani was hurt by scandals involving mobbed-up Bernard Kerik (Rooty's former bodyguard, driver, Police Commissioner and business partner---in that order).
Rudy's porking his mistress on the public dime and hiding the theft of public services in obscure city agencies, then lying about it to voters.
Unzipped Rudy is something else. Giuliani's messy personal life is a big turnoff to women voters. Rudy had no qualms causing the public humiliation of his second wife by dumping her at a news conference without even telling her.
He tried to dump his two young kids out in the streets---saying he was dividing the Mayoral mansion in two---to move in his mistress. It makes wives and moms around the country skeptical of putting him in the White House.
If he can't control his zipper, how can he control the country? One news poll found 50% of women overall - and 48% of GOP women - are less likely to vote for Giuliani because he dumped his second wife Donna Hanover at a 2000 press conference.
A lot of women say Giuliani's assigning seven taxpayer-funded bodyguards/drivers to his girlfriend while his wife was still NYC's First Lady was EVEN WORSE than Rudy's public humiliation of the mother of his children.
"Rotten" is a word that came up again and again when women refer to Rudy.
