WASHINGTON -- The Bush administration hit the brakes Friday on a controversial law requiring Americans to carry tamper-proof driver's licenses, delaying its final implementation by five years, until 2017.
A number of states have balked at the law, objecting to it largely over cost and privacy concerns. But under the administration's new edict, states that continue to fight compliance with the law face a penalty: Their residents will be forbidden from using driver's licenses to board airplanes or enter federal buildings as of May 11 of this year.

Yes and no, apparently. May 11 people are going to be dealing with 2nd class citizenship at the federal level. I suppose they should all go out and get passports before them, as the State Dept (feds) give that out.
Just fry up the little RFID chip in there once you get it.

It sounds good, but I just can’t help thinking it’s only going to be tougher on US citizens.
It will somehow criminalize us, like all those lame gun control laws & nanny laws.

It will be interesting how they handle people called up for Jury Duty for federal cases, in those states that don't go along with the new rules. Will cases come to a stand still. What will the lawyers do?

They will do just as they always have. Issue an exemption to anyone as necessary to carry on as usual.
Am I the only one who managed to get through the eight grade? The ramifications of these insane illogical laws are starting to make my head ache.
