That is an "argument" altogether different than what one is "allowed," pursuant to the Bill of Rights, to do. I think "being rude bullies" may likely have negative effects, and for that reason, I would not, personally, take part in such a protest of that kind.
But what I choose to do is not what everyone chooses; and I would not force MY OWN "politeness" on others, just as I would not have others force theirs onto me.
The Republican party is the pro-life party and we have to keep it that way.
If we drive the pro abortion RINO candidates out of the race others wont rush to spend millions to try again.
If just one anti-gun abortionist Republican gets the nomination the party is dead, because we would never get rid of them!
Sorry, but that’s one dumb question.
It’s pretty myopic to focus on simply who is running against whom.
It’s a bit more complex and comprehensive than that.
“All this does is bring out the pro-abortion zealots.”
Anything that might advance the cause of life will bring them out. The only way *not* to bring them out is to do nothing.
They won’t go down without a fight. We must be glad to bring them out, then we must defeat them.
Even if true, so what? Tell me something it will accomplish for the cause of life.
Well, the kid is partly right saying that. He fails to see that a third of the parents who aborted their kids have a larger responsibility for it because they may have well elected Giuliani and also decided to exercise their ‘right’ under the law.
Whoa! The moon is turning a new phase if Rudy is not already prepared for receptions like this in Florida.
This is not NY or NJ.
Bad move leaving like that.
Myopic would be for the GOP to totally abandon the pro-life platform.
Are you a lawyer?
NOBODY prevented Rooty from speaking, get your fact straight.
Why? Are only lawyers “allowed” to state their opinions and cite case law concerning free speech?
Nobody said it was wrong or “not allowed.”
I said it wasn’t helpful. And it wasn’t in this case. It was stupid and unnecessary.
Oooh, I like this way! Please post any charities that are making this happen. I believe this is the right way to combat abortion and I am sure lots of Freepers would want to contribute.
I was at the Gathering of Eagles in March and Septembewr last year..
The “I-was-just-a-peon-clerk-in-the-JAG-office-and-not-a-real-lawyer-but-I-play-one-on-FR should have been there, and heard the CANSWER crowd...
He would have really had something to faint and wave his hanky about...
Pass fJAG the smelling salts...
“Im sure they wouldnt mind if Planned Parenthood interrupted their prayer breakfast at Ryans Steakhouse. :p
Im pro-life all the way, but being rude bullies changes no hearts. It only hardens them.”
Every post on your side of this argument contains an implicit assumption of an equivalence between the two sides.
They are not equivalent.
This is a fight between good and evil. Evil does not deserve courtesy or consideration. Good does.
It is a moral good for pro-lifers to disrupt the rites of the baby killers. It is a moral evil for baby killers to...well, to do anything in the cause of baby killing.
Good and evil — not morally equivalent.
Did you see what happened to Code Pink in Miami? - Priceless!!
Rudy needs to be prepared for this, at least in Florida, and not think that its the business as usual, gay agenda forums that he has become familiar with.
In your opinion, does the first amendment protect the Phelps family when they go protest military funerals?
Please don’t feel like I’m putting you on the spot, I’m just curious what the difference is and how you and other folks view it.
I loved the idea, that one could speask up, and after he is removed, another, and after he is removed, another.
That puts power to truth.
Please re-read what I wrote. You totally missed the point.
You continually argue what (you think) the Constitution allows.
Even if you are correct, what is the point of doing something within the political process that is counter-productive to the goals of your movement?
Really. Then, why is that so clearly indicative when KeithCu said the following:
The first amendment gives you the right to stand in line and ask a question, but not to interrupt!!
First Code Pink was run out of Miami as fast as their truck could go, and now Rudy, apparently speechless before a public crowd.
Florida 2, liberals 0
In Giuliani's perfect-world they would be. Or at least all rallies except his. Remember those "taxi-terrorists" in NYC?
No one said First Amendment rights are “suspended” or that we “live in Marxist China.” Get a grip.
How do you get from numerous comments that these protests are viewed as counter-productive to someone telling you the First Amendment is toast and America is Marxist China?
That’s just weird.
They may be gross, but they are quite effective in showing her position on abortion.
A statement like that is better and clearer than raw numbers of the dead unborn....
Okay, this is getting ridiculous.
Excuse me, but the burden is on those supporting these protests and claiming that they are helpful to give the rest of us some evidence that this is indeed the case.
Let me use your standard: please answer the question, "how will protesting Rudy Guiliani until he gets out of the race STOP ABORTION DEAD IN IT'S [sic] TRACKS ????????????"
Which is beside the point: Rudy is very much in favor of policies that encourage abortion. More than that, he is an advocate. of them.
It is true that good and evil are not equivalent, but it is also true that Rudy is not evil.
You might be misinformed about him, and you might be angry at him, but that doesn’t make him evil.
I’ve already addressed that there are times when, in interest of public safety, as an example, one should not yell “fire” in a crowded theater. I also believe that it is beyond the pale to scream/yell/interrupt a private funeral gathering.
However, if people cannot gather and express themselves at POLITICAL RALLIES, especially concerning national political figures who intend to become president, for what purpose would the Founding Fathers have inserted such an Amendment in the Bill of Rights?
To everyone involved. Wagglebee is correct.
The poster is misinformed.
I do think it is wrong. Others might think lawlessness is fine...
That is not the "litmus test" for upholding freedom of speech.
This is Randall Terry we're talking about! This guy is the Al Sharpton of the pro-life movement.
Answer the question, please.
And don’t presume that you have any clue who “my candidate” is.
Or what “upsets” me. What upsets me here is that those cheering on these counter-productive tactics refuse to even try to explain how they think these protests are, in fact, a valuable addition to the political process as it is unfolding at this point in time.
“Rudy is indeed a liberal Republican, and I won’t vote for him in the primary. But he would do much better in the war on terror than Hitlery or Hussein Obama or the Breck Girl. He would save more American lives in that respect.”
Zell Miller would also do better than the RATS you mention but I wont be voting for him either.
Romney is still anti-gun and he hasn’t flipped on that yet.
“Defeating the party of death for one thing.”
Which party would that be ????
In the Republican Party the presidential candidates Romney, Gulianni, Paul are all pro-abortion...
You are awfully young arent you ????
>Defeating the party of death for one thing.
Yeah, that has worked so well since Roe v Wade.
I see your point, of course.
And apparently, in his supporters' worlds, as well. Good grief.
What laws did these people break?
Please cite them.
This kind of stuff may actually gain Rudy some votes.
Prohibited? Free Republic cut its eyeteeth FReeping liberal politicians. Our chapters followed the Clintons, Gores, and Kerrys all around the country and FReeped them at every opportunity. Our FReeps are legend and the harrowing stories are permanently recorded for posterity on news reels and in several books. We’ve never met a liberal that didn’t deserve FReeping!
Rudy Tooters should pray their man (if you can call her that) does not win the nomination. The FReeping opportunities will be limitless.
And supporting Rudy gives us a liberal RINO in the White House--a fate equally unacceptable, if not worse. (Example: Schwarzenegger)
What’s “weird” is how you are needing to twist everything around from what was initially said and what were the subsequent replies.
It’s obvious YOU are the lawyer.
If you’re talking about your blahblah at post 68, uh, I don’t think so.
But since you say you already “addressed” the “fire” issue, pray tell, how then are you sticking to your conclusion that the First Amendment is absolute and that there are no limits on protesting at political rallies?
I’ll try to keep up if you try to answer the questions put to you, k?
Classless acts like this convince the disinterested general public to whom abortion is a second tier issue at best that all pro-lifers are kooks they dont want to associate with. And that characterization is going to be alive and well in their minds long after this one election.
That’s how we have been told to protect ourselves against the terrorists too...
Be sweet and nice.....
Does that work ?????????
How many times must I say FR is a conservative site? We do not support abortionism, homosexualism, feminisim, environmentalism, gun control, liberalism, socialism, etc, etc, etc. When I say I suspect we will become even more conservative than we already are, possibly via attrition if nothing else, what do you think Im referring to? When FR starts pushing hard and I mean hard against abortion, gay marriage, homosexual education forced on our school children, pandering to illegal aliens, gun control, McCaine-Feingold type usurpation, global warming, etc, etc, even if supported or advanced by the GOP, then I fully suspect certain types of moderate/liberal Republican supporters are probably going to be a little uncomfortable here. We will be fighting for traditional American conservatism no matter who we have to fight against and Im afraid thats going to piss off some folks.
