I seem to remember when Dick Cheney visited the middle east either last year or the year before he visited some retreat in the desert cannot remember which country but the concept seemed familiar maybe it is a middle eastern tradition. I must admit my middle east history on customs is a bit sketchy.

I tend to stick to Yahoo and White House website purely due to the volume of photos but if I happen to see a photo elsewhere I would use if different from those from the usual sources.

Also if he visiting with Gates or Rice then often the Depart of Defense or State Department are good source of high resolution photos.

I was struck by that and got to think about my own politicians and the Queen.

I can in the past remember seeing both our top politicians and even on the odd occasion the Queen carrying their own umbrellas but I would say the norm is for one to be held for them. The Queen I would say out of respect and acknowledging she is our head of State and the politician partly respect for their office but primarily so their hands are free especially if delivering a speech from paper notes.

Is the President doing it from an American point of view of all are equal etc, somehow I feel there is a message being portrayed. I am not criticizing him by the way as I actually think unless he is making a speech etc there is no reason why he should not.

Yes, that’s a much better picture. It must be the camera angle, but in the original pic, her neck and chin looked round and flabby. Not so in this one.

I am surprised at the rainy comment as I understood the cold was due to lack of cloud cover so only imagined rain in the rainy season

Possibily though I think it is Laura that is the one that likes camping and hiking as she often goes on breaks like that with her girl friends.

Probably I have seen her wear glasses before not sure where but if you going to the back of beyond contacts might be a bit of a nuisance.

Maybe she normally wears the non disposable type and therefore would need to take lotions etc with her and it is easier to just wear glasses. Also most opticians do suggest that you occasionally give your eyes a break and wear glasses so this trip would be an ideal time to do so.

I must admit I cannot see where she has put on the weight that others say and I have certainly seen her with those glasses and hair like that before.

She does seem to look frumpy with certain clothes and it is the fashion at present with the smock type clothes for youngsters to look a bit frumpy. I would think it more the clothes she is wearing than weight gain that people are saying, OK maybe a few pounds over the Christmas season but not like what some people seem to be saying IMHO.

Also most people like comfy baggy clothes for traveling in. Her face to me does not look that puffy that weight gain would indicate.

i agree with you...when traveling you want comfort not fashion

I like the pics of the falcon...it reminds me of a scene in The Kingdom, where a Saudi prince lets one of the FBI agents hold his falcon, and the dialog went like this...

snugs, look at the size of her neck and the curve of her chin in the first pic vs. the second one. In the second pic, her neck looks slim and her chin (and nose) look more sharply defined.
Also, she doesn’t have the same glasses on in the second pic.

I do agree that she often wears frumpy looking clothes, but you can’t see much of them in these pix.

THANK YOU for posting the DOSE tonight . . . While doing incredible good for our country, the President is having the trip of a lifetime! [Of course, we know he’s missing his First Lady terribly!]

Sadly, there is only a little more than a year to go in the Day in the Life of President Bush. So many of us will miss him and this thread.
