Union control.

We could quadruple the spending and it would not help.

“Why is Public Education Failing?”

Because it’s run by government.

While the methods being used now are relatively new, public schools have been failing for a long, long time. Indeed, since being imposed on a mostly unwilling public in the late 1800’s, they have never been bastions of acedemic excellence. The only solution is for people to stop using them.

Presumably when faced with various problems in building their rocket, students will seek out the necessary information. They'll need math to calculate the projectory,

What is a rocket "Projectory?"

Government-run health care will be every bit as successful as government-run schools.

Because it’s run by government.

End of discussion. The only thing government does better than private enterprise is national defense, because nobody but the government has the money to do that on the necessary scale.

(And I give them a kiss on the interstate highway system, even though it's a swindle :-).

Children are coming out of school dumb because they aren't taught academics

When children aren't accountable for schoolwork they turn out dumber than doornails. When parents aren't accountable for their children to society at large, the kids go do as they please. We live in a no-fault society, it's nobody's fault the kids go bad.....

The nly possible answer is to vote with your feet - your kids’ feet that is. Do whatever it takes to dry up the money fountain that feeds public ‘education’.

ANOTHER REASON TO HOMESCHOOL

This ping list is for the “other” articles of interest to homeschoolers about education and public school. If you want on/off this list, please freepmail me. The main Homeschool Ping List by DaveLoneRanger handles the homeschool-specific articles. This is becoming a fairly high volume list.

Why is Public Education Failing?

Public education is doing just fine. It's the students who are failing.

Nope, we could force the unions out of the schools, and quadruple spending, and it wouldn’t help. Why?

Almost all of the several states have given a monopoly on teaching in public schools (and some in any school at all) to ED MAJORS. Remember them? By and large air-headed ditzes who picked the major because it was the easiest one in the catalog.

Until real degrees in real subjects, rather than degrees in [subject name]-education are the credential for teaching, the schools will be a waste of resources. When my father was in high school in the 1930’s and 40’s, all of the teachers had at least a masters degree in the subject they taught.

They'll need math to calculate the projectory

They'll also need English to know that the word isn't projectory. It's trajectory. A simple spell check would reject projectory.

“They have, instead, become experiments in behavior modification.”

The elephant in the room is that the original experiment in behavior modification was done on American mothers. And it worked. Solve that problem and this one will disappear.

What a reassuring thought.

In many, many communities it isn’t failing. In fact, it’s providing an excellent education. Unfortunately, those communities have the resources to pay the tab for an excellent education as well as the kind of demographic make-up to assure that the money is spent efficently.

The bottomline truth is very simple: the majority of communities cannot afford to provide education to its citizens.
